However, the primary reason my experience is always excellent at Union is Tee -- he consistently provides an awesome haircut, great conversation, and makes the process seamless. I've been getting my hair cut by Tee for about 5 years now, and I can confidently say that I'll always trust Tee to give me an excellent cut. I've since moved further away, and my drive to the shop is an hour, but it's worth it to know I'm always going to get the same consistent experience, professionalism, and be able to catch up with Tee. After all this time, Tee knows my preferred style without asking any questions, and also knows how to adapt to however my hair decides to behave on the day of (even when I end up missing a couple weeks and going longer between cuts. Two black female barbers (one the owner) working on two black male patrons with one person waiting. When I walked in... the most uncomfortable silence in history. I said hello cheerfully and asked if they accepted credit cards. The owner responded in the negative. I asked for an estimate on how much it would be to shave a line for a part in my already short hair. Rather than answering my question the owner responded with I'm all booked up today. She then asked the other female barber if she had anything. She responded no. Ensue further awkward silence. Anyone remember that scene from Pretty Woman where Julia Roberts tries initially to get help on Rodeo Drive?!? You know ... where those "oh so helpful" store clerks never did answer how much that dress was. Just implied that somehow Julia Roberts wasn't able to have access to it regardless of money. Yep. Exact same scenario. Did the owner or her employee ask if I'd like to make an appointment for another day (since apparently walk ins aren't so welcome)? No. Great representation of black owned businesses. Never. Coming. Back. God forbid you be an educated black woman trying to give another black woman money. Smh.
