I visited on a slow Saturday. inside is a small sitting area with hard old fashioned school type chairs and a selection of magazines. And a row of old fashioned barber chairs with the hand pumps, and a sales counter and shelves of products. They are trying hard for the 'old fashioned' and dark wood look. They use modern online reservations and point of sale tablet. Staff was nice, my barber was nice, good haircut. Parking is an issue, very limited Woodward parking otherwise parking down a long side street. read more

When you need "me time" with no BS. Great staff, beautiful ambiance, a gem on Woodward.

I've been to Detroit Barbers in Ferndale a couple of times (both pre-pandemic and mid-pandemic) and all experiences have been fantastic. The team makes the whole process seamless, from making an appointment to the procedure once you arrive, and finally (and perhaps most importantly) the quality of the cut you receive. I can personally only speak to the straight hair cut and the beard trim, but the barber shop definitely has a diverse range of regulars. The haircuts tend to fall on the expensive side, but you get a high quality service at the end of the day and for me, it's worth it. During COVID-19, you can expect to wear a mask at all times during your visit to the barber shop, have your temperature screened, and your barber will disinfect all equipment and use hand sanitizer before your haircut (while wearing a mask). Personally, I'm really glad to see that the business is adhering to guidelines very well and keeping safety high on their priorities! Overall, I'd say this is a great spot to get your haircut in Michigan, it's not cheap, but definitely worth it. read more

My son received a haircut from a female at Detroit barber. A female staff member (unfortunately my husband didn't get her name). It looked like she cut his hair with a blindfold. Possibly one of the worst haircuts my son and husband have received. He tried to explain several times what he wanted but she must also have a hearing problem. So disappointed!! I'd save your money and go somewhere else. read more

I just got the worst haircut of my life. My hard part is almost a half inch. my bangs are extremely crooked and there's stray hairs everywhere. I've been coming here for five years, but I'll never come back again. read more

Pretty unfortunate and rushed experience that led to my beard being hacked up. I left with hair all over my face and neck, my neckline not trimmed and a top beard line that no longer matches. While we all have different expectations for what our trip to the barber should be and feel like, this didn't live up to mine. The ambience in the barbershop pictured looks nice and classic. I was notified that my shop was upstairs in a room that looked nothing like is pictured, not well kept, with multiple chairs sharing a single headrest. It seems like I was sent to the junior varsity field without warning. My beard trim was pretty butchered, uneven, and so incredibly rushed. Without asking he shaved my top line an 1/2 inch deep on one side and didn't touch the other. It's clearly uneven and now I'm forced to shave a part of my face I was growing out just so it will match. I didn't want it trimmed at all but he gouged it before I could say something. I take great care of my beard and my first trip to the barber since moving to Michigan, at a place where I thought could care for it, resulted in months of work undone. With all that said, I came here because of their affiliation with their beard care products, and was looking to refill my almost depleted inventory of shampoo, butter and wax. He didn't put any product in the hair or beard and sent me on my way, undone. Here's a photo from my last haircut and beard trim and one from today. Months of work lost. read more

**note** Detroit Barbers sent me a link to review them on Yelp and it automatically takes me to their Ferndale location. I was at their Corktown location so the review reflects that*** I bought a holiday gift for my husband here, (beard kit), and just love the vibe of this place! From the entrance to the people who work here, it's like a place you want to hang out.... and it's a wonderful addition to Corktown. There's an excellent coffee bar upstairs, (who knew?), and a classic feel that really makes you want to belong. read more

The last 2x my bf went he didn't get what he asked for. Hair/beard was trimmed way too short. This used to be a great place. What happened?

I've been going to Jayme at Detroit Barber for a while now and she does fantastic every time. I came in with long hair - past chest length - looking for a change. I trusted in her and her skill and was NOT let down. The entire place has such a cool vibe and they have such great styling products too. I've seen a few barbers kill it on beards, cuts and styling. Stop in for a good cut and you won't be disappointed! read more

Hell yeah. This is everything a barber shop should be. The guys at Corktown are fun, do a great job, and you can grab a great coffee upstairs while you wait, or just sit and bull with the guys. And I look GOOD now. read more

Ive been in now a few different times for beard trims, and each have been of the highest quality. I love the look and the vibe within the barber shop, and today I got to get trimmed up by Derek in a chair upstairs. It was really quaint up there, and I kind of felt like a VIP. I can't even talk enough about the quality of their products either. Absolutely top notch products. I love this place. read more

Have been going to the Ferndale location for 6 months now every other month to see Ryan. I am very happy with service for a haircut and beard trim. The ability to find a place that can do shave with a straight is nice let alone the hot towels. Do not forget to ask about their beard sauce it is wonderful for every day use. read more

I highly recommend Detroit Barber Co and Destiny at Corktown shop. She is a great barber, friendly, and always has great suggestions when I'm unsure what to do with my hair. The shop is great- professional, timely(no long waits), and I really like their hair products and beard oils. read more

Kelly at the Plymouth location was terrific. She has great attention to detail and is really sweet.

I have been to Detroit Barbers in Corktown four times now and utilized three different Barbers, all have done an awesome job! I'm not someone who can book 4 or 5 weeks out, I'm usually a two day in advance guy. The online booking system makes it fast and easy to find a barber within my time window and be confident I'll get a great cut! The online confirmation and reminders are an added plus. Book it, you won't be disappointed... read more

Got a same day appointment for husband and the cut was sexy and on point. Looked good for weeks! Highly recommended.

Second time at Detroit Barbers. First time was in Corktown, haircut went well (good, not great), decided to try Ferndale this time. Very happy I did. Tahj did an amazing job with my pompadour-style haircut, probably the best haircut and fade I've ever received. He listened to what I wanted, looked at a couple pictures to see what I've liked in the past so he'd have an idea of what I was going for, told him about a couple recent bad haircuts, and then he took it from there. He knows his stuff and truly cares about his work. He started with the hard-part and fade, both looked great from the start. Then he shaped the haircut to the hairstyle and to my head, brushing it along the way to make sure it was going to set right. When I thought he was about done, he then went back to the fade to blend it expertly with several different techniques and tools; I was very impressed. It was already a good fade, but this next go-round took it to the next level. He styled my hair just like I'd showed him in the pictures and then he did some last finishing touches to ensure that everything laid right and looked good all-around. Truly a great experience and I would highly recommend, both the shop and Tahj. Tahj, keep up the great work. I'll be seeing you again in a few weeks. Thanks. read more

Huge fan of this place. Laid back, clean, friendly and talented staff who have always done a great job with my hair. I moved back from AZ recently and there was a great selection of barbers out west. So thankful this place is close by. It's now my local go to. They offer a whole lot of their own branded grooming products downstairs to purchase. Im a huge fan of the Supra for an all day hold. Pro tip...all of your check ins can be done online. Place is popular so I would definitely recommend setting an appointment that way. Even if it's your first time...I'm confident whoever you choose to style your hair will do a great job at this establishment! read more

I was not impressed at all with the $40 shave I got there recently, I was cut and found all kinds of missed areas that I had to go home and clean up with my own razor and cream. Definitely not going back there for a shave again. read more

The place looked pretty cool, so decided to give it a try. Probably one of the worse haircuts I've gotten. Barely took anything off and just ended up being asymmetrical. They don't shave your neck with a razor (if that's something your normally expect) and I was covered in hair after I walked out. Overall the place looks cool people seem nice but I don't plan on coming back. read more

I have had nothing but positive experiences; I have gone to both the Ferndale and Detroit locations. The atmosphere is unique (particularly the vintage items) and the staff is beyond friendly. They spend money on marketing, that's it. Extremely rude staff, can't figure out how to schedule an appointment. I had Alex cut my hair and he smelled like booze and cigarettes, pretty average haircut not worth the price though. Tried to upsell me a bunch of beard crap I didn't want. Love this facility. Chuck and Day are my go to barbers. True professionals and extremely talented and true to their crafts. Highly recommend

I took my 11 year old son to the downtown Plymouth shop today for a hair cut, and Emmanuel hacked his hair!! he left crying his eyes out the whole way home! the sides are all uneven and it's extremely choppy looking!! my poor son will only wear hats now. he had nice long hair, and now it's all uneven and looks terrible!! and to top it off, they charged me $55 for his hair cut!!! my son don't even want to go to school tomorrow because of his terrible haircut!! I will NEVER be going back here and I will let everyone I know to not go there! my poor sons feelings are so hurt! he loved his long hair!!! :( read more

Awesome place. My son gets his hair cut with Justin who is the best! He's so patient and sweet with my son, and somehow manages to give a great haircut to a squirmy boy. This is the best shop I've been too. They know how to cut hair, which you think you could get that any any place but that's wrong! Great cut - cool shop - easy free parking - good price - great experience. I visited the Grosse Pointe Park shop and everything went as I had hoped. The staff and clients were masked up, temperature checked, and disinfected. My appointment was on-schedule and Stanley was great. My hubby has always cut his hair at home but decided it was finally time to get it done by a professional. So I gladly went on yelp to find him the best. We were able to make an appointment online ,within minutes he received a text message confirming his appointment with Chuck. His appointment was at 3pm and he was out in 30 minutes, I love it when a business sticks to their appointment times. Chuck listened to my husband's request and he left feeling very happy with his new haircut. So glad I was able to find this gem for him :) read more

I came in an asked for a 0-1-2 fade on the sides and a trim on top. The girl that cut my hair was not attentive and seemed to be concerned with other people than my hair. I even asked her to fix the top after she was "done" because I didn't like how it looked and was not given a chance to look at the sides and back. The fade is not a fade and the back of my head is uneven. I felt like she was taking going through the motions with my cut and at the end rushed me out. Really disappointing experience and a waste of $30. I will not be coming back. read more

Detroit Barbers - Horrible fade. Not a good experience. - Barbers Near Me - Ferndale, Michigan

I got my first haircut of the COVID era at Detroit Barbers on Michigan Avenue in Corktown. First thing, they're scrupulous about masks and physical distancing (Brett, who cut my hair, greeted me with an elbow bump). He got rid of the mullet and sideburns I was rocking in efficient fashion and was an engaging guy to talk with. Unlike my previous stylist, Brett had a good idea of how to cut a guy's hair-- I came away looking reasonably distinguished. All for just $30. I'll be back! read more

Was not given the haircut I asked for. I found both front and 3/4 profile pics of the exact cut I wanted. I showed the stylist the pics and he disregarded what I asked for. I was given the same standard cut as every other dude walking down the street...a $15 cut which cost me $30. I can't comment on all the stylists, but I won't return to this shop. read more

This place is awesome! The vibe, the design, the staff and services and their product line - all spectacular. For whatever reason, probably because it makes me feel younger lol - I love a hipster, bearded, Brooklynesque barber and that's what you're getting here. Well, the women aren't bearded, but they're hipster and awesome. Alex cut my hair and he did exactly what I'd asked for but somehow gave me an even better cut than I'd envisioned. Been using the dry clay product for a few days and will stock up before I leave Detroit. I love it! This place rocked and I'd go back in a second. The ONLY thing I'd suggest they look at is their website...it's great and easy to navigate and make an appt, but in order to make an appointment, you have to choose a barber, but there's no staff page where you can get a look at each person and a sense of their style and maybe background/training. read more
