So when I found out that Black Salt was out on national fried chicken day and they were parked out in front of one of my favorite breweries in Portland, my attendance was mandatory. I'd heard of Black Salt before and was excited to see what the fuss was about. Apparently the fuss about how good their food is 100% on the money. My entire experience was pleasant. The staff communicated upfront that it was going to take a bit longer than normal because they had just replenished their oil and it needed to get back to the desired temp. This issue was compounded by a few orders coming in at the same time. All is said, I appreciated the heads up and in fairness, the wait was still less than 15 minutes (enough time for a refreshment). In the end, the sandwiches were delicious, the buns had integrity (deliciously soft but strong enough to hold up while eating), and the toppings/sauces were out of this world! I will be back time and time again with friends and family and my fried chicken sandwich squad when they come to visit Portland! On a follow up trip to Black Salt, I got the chance to visit my wife while she was at class at UNE to enjoy some DELICIOUS fried chicken!

I had been to the food truck for a breakfast sandwich which I really likes a couple years ago but somehow it got off my radar. I love wood fired and coal fire pizza and when I walked in it smelled so good. Many gluten free cookies and cake . They offer gluten free pizza crust. They pizza is not available till 4:00 so I went home and called in an order after 4. We got the sausage abs caramelized onion pizza we really liked this it was a little bit greasy but the flavor was perfect. We also got a white pizza with chicken and broccoli which was very good crispy on the top and bottom. We also tried a slice of cheese pan pizza which reminded me of Slab pizza which is an favorite of ours . It was great to find great pizza out in this area of town and not to have to go into the Old Port. We also tried the peanut butter and jelly cookie $3.00 a new favorite. The bakery items are something I will return to try out . Happy to have found this plac

It was some type of an aioli that gave the meat a very funky looking pinkish red color. I could not discern what was in the aioli, it was a fairly non distinct mixture. The lobster meat smelled a bit fishy. This wasn't just my impression, but all three of us commented the same thing. This was not enough for me not to eat it, but clearly, it was a bit unusual. We also tried the roasted Brussel Sprouts, they were decent, with another aioli, that equally had no spice kick, or discernible flavor. All said, kind of meh...I will give it three stars on potential. The menu looked good...I'll give it another try and skip the lobster roll.

You eat family style which isnt my fave but in particular really isnt my fave if youre starving and running on a few 2oz shots of cider as there is no beer, wine, full pours of anything or even water? We sat at the end of the table and when the main entree (chicken) came out it was put in the middle so by the time it got to us we got about 2 bites of gristly thigh- and then the "chef" had the audacity to ask if we were full?! It was pretty clear that there was no edible chicken or pureed vegetables by the time it got down to us so when they cleared plates that didnt have food it should have gone without saying. We had to go home and order a pizza, mainly cause this took so long everything was closed. For the price point you could actually eat food you wanted almost anywhere else in Maine. I didnt feel comfortable complaining as it is generally not necessary in fine dining establishments and would have been rude in such a setting, particularly as we were sat next to a business associate of the chef. Such a disappointment.

Laura allowed us to tell her about our dream spread for our wedding and then she priced it out based on the things we really wanted. She was wonderful about making suggestions and adjustments and could even accommodate my vegan cousin who is also gluten free and deathly allergic to nuts and soy (yes, I know). We loved how mobile Laura was and that she was able to work at our site, but keep in mind that if you want her to work in more unusual locations that she will have to rent equipment to do her fine work with her staff. The process was incredibly creative and satisfying. She hosted a beautiful tasting in our own home for five (although I think only four are included). Laura's food was absolutely divine. We had our rehearsal dinner catered by her (as a drop-off): Pulled pork, cold bbq chicken, amaaaazing potato salad, corn pudding, cookie platter (you know-- exactly the kinds of foods you want to eat the night before you squeeze into your finery). Our wedding buffet included 5 delightful passed hors d'oeuvres, an epic charcuterie and cheese spread, a family style salad and bread course, and then a buffet of grilled bistro steaks and salmon, roasted vegetables and fresh summer salads. We were in heaven! Laura outsources wedding cakes, but she did make some amazing peach and apple hand pies as an alternative to wedding cake! Her bartender made a haymakers punch (switchel-- awesomely refreshing) and raspberry leaf iced tea and they were happy to serve the alcohol that we had purchased. We were incredibly happy with the wonderful service on the day of the wedding. The team she assembled to serve on the wedding day was incredibly friendly and professional. Five stars all around! *A quick suggestion to guests working with your caterer on a larger event is to dump e-mail contents/conversation tidbits into a Google Doc that you can share with Laura. There was a lot of back and forth on the phone and e-mail that got confusing at times. Do yourself a favor and keep it all in one sacred location! *Laura only took checks for our payments which was fine for us, but we would have appreciated being able to PayPal our payments as floating thousands of dollars in checks to the many vendors (none of whom took credit cards or PayPal) was rather nerve racking at times.

All of our friends and family from all over the country couldn't stop raving about the food, and their new Tap Truck was a hit serving as both a source of ice cold draft beer and a conversation piece. As expected, the raw bar was top notch, and the tenderloin popovers, cheddar bites, bacon wrapped scallops, and deviled eggs were so tasty I barely had room left for the main course because I couldn't stop taking more! Our entree selections were similarly satisfying with a delicious chicken dish, glazed rainbow baby carrots, and their clam chowder being notable standouts. The sirloin carving station was a real hit, particularly with their fig and wilted arugula accomplishments, and Chef Ned's bright and engaging personality made this event really stand out with a friendly greeting and engaging conversation for all, both young and old. The whole team was exceedingly friendly and engaged, not cool and aloof like some service staff can be. I'd particularly like to give a shout-out to Jen who not only guided us through all of the planning steps leading up to the big day, but also was kind enough to go to the store after her set up was done and pick up more ice for us for our self-furnished beverage station. Many caterers would have treated this as a "not my problem"situation since we weren't paying them to provide beverages, but she went above and beyond to help ensure our event was a success. I have zero reservations about calling Jen at Great Circle for help planning our next big event and neither should you!

I ordered two and, while my partner in crime absolutely LOVED his, I wasn't really a fan. The sandwich comes on a baguette and is filled with a slab of coconut curry marinated tofu, pickled veg (like carrots and radishes), spicy vegan mayo, and cilantro. Unfortunately, my bread was pretty burned - as such, that black toast char was the dominating flavor (and smell). It was also the dominating ingredient as the slab of tofu was much smaller than I was expecting. In the end, I tossed the bread and ate just the tofu and veggies (which, again, I wish there had been more of, and much less of the stems of cilantro). Loved the variety of spices that came from the individual components of the jalapenos, the curry, and the spread though! While I was disappointed in the sandwich I got (especially at $11 when compared to sandwiches of similar prices from other food trucks), I still think they're great. The person taking my order was super friendly, the person making the food was engaging, and their passion to use as much fresh, local ingredients as possible is impressive and appreciated. Also the presentation of their food is stunning, and proves that restaurant quality food can come out of a mobile kitchen. While they might not be my first choice, I definitely appreciate what they're creating and the flavor profiles they're exploring!

The fries were perfectly crisp and seasoned. I was able to share the fries with 2 other coworkers! It's not often that I walk away from a food truck thinking portion sizes align with both the quality and the pricing, but this one nails it. The menu isn't large, but that's because they choose to perfect what they are slinging, putting quality over quantity. Definitely give this place a try... and split the fries!
