What a great places! Just a few minutes walk from the packed riverwalk and bustling town of Dusseldorf, you will find yourself in a very local German restaurant , filled with locals!
I first walked in and was gruffly told that they were fully booked, but she motioned to a table and told me I could sit there. The restaurant was comfortable, I sat at a tall table near the bar, great atmosphere.
I ordered a cold Hefeweizen beer and then my friend arrived and he ordred a beer as well. Our server's demeanor softened and she spoke very good English. She gave us menus and we asked her about the dishes and we both settled on Schnitzel with pan fried onions and potatoes.
We enjoyed our cold beers and then she brought our plates of perfectly prepared and HUGE schnitzels, which we both hungrily dove into- and they were cooked to perfection, as were the potatoes.
We had a great conversation with our server, Bettina, and we even met the Owner/Chef, where we found that the restaurant has been in busines there since 1851, and has been in his family since the beginning!
We ordered another beer and sat out at a table on the sidewalk and enjoyed the evening weather and more great conversation with Bettina.
I highly recommend this place, especially if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle (and tourists!) of the city! read more
