The Christmas Market time in Germany is super busy and especially on Friday - Sunday. Schumacher alt is the oldest brewery in Düsseldorf. Established in 1838. Thankfully they have modern and clean restrooms to evacuate all the beer drank there. The ambiance of the place is a lively beer hall. There are picnic tables and banquettes of various sizes. The wait staff are intentionally a little rude. Part of their stick. The beers keep coming until you say stop. You get the house brew in 10 oz. glasses. The waiter makes a mark on a coaster each time he brings a round. When you have had enough be sure to put a coaster on top of your glass, or the beer will keep coming. The food menu is large and only in German. It is a good time to use the photo translation feature on your phone. The food was very good and a LOT! Mind you, the railway station bars in Germany are somewhat different to the ones in Australia, namely that they all tend to be dive bars. Well, they aren't as bad as some of the dive bars that I encountered in Germany, but they certainly weren't all that enthusiastic. Namely you get a pretty bland assortment of drinks, and depending on the time of day you turn up, you might even land up with the end of shift crew, which isn't always a pleasant thing.

I recently moved to this city and I do not know German. After entering the restaurant, the elderly gentleman very kindly welcomed & explained, as much possible, the different seating arrangements. When I showed the waiter, he shrugged and walked away. 3. The table to our left waited so long for their first ordered beer, they they eventually got up and left, and I am not sure their waiter ever noticed. 4.
