Public skating here is fine…read more I have had nothing but bad experiences in the programs for learning to play hockey that my kids have participated in, culminating in my son's attempt to play in what they called a developmental league. There were maybe 15 kids in the program, with no teams, bad coaches, and no communication. My attempts to learn more and eventually get a refund went unheeded for weeks. Note that the various hockey clubs that use the rink may be different and are not run directly by the rink.

Disclaimer: this review is from the perspective of a parent of a youth amateur hockey player…read more This ice rink has a lot going for it: aestheticly nice, well lit, nice dressing rooms, good ice surface, and ample parking. But aside from the ample parking, what matters to me? Coffee. And this place has vending machine coffee and no snackbar. Blech. A positive is the temperature inside the rink. While decidedly cool, it isn't a meat locker and that's important when you are essentially stationary for an hour. It has a 100% functioning scoreboard, also a huge nice to have. On the downside, the players benches and penalty box obscure the view along the boards. Rinks where the benches are opposite the bleachers are better. If f this place had fresh coffee I would give the rink 4 stars - but they don't so they get a 3.

Hmmm. Do I write a review about the actual Ice Gardens Arena or the circus we attended which was…read morethe reason we were here? I think I have to include some experiences from both. So one day I come into work and in the lunch room are a stack of tickets admitting one child for free per paying adult to the Garden Brothers Circus. I have two step kids age 8, and 6 and immediately thought they might enjoy this. After talking it over with my husband he went online and purchased two adult tickets (9.95 + a fee, total about $25.00) that we used with the free tickets. This arena was quite a drive, roughly an hour and all highway driving. When we got there I was very unhappy to see they were charging $5.00 to park. I wasn't all that surprised but I think they should tell you that in advance (online when ordering your tickets maybe??). Being a couple of people who rarely carry cash this speed bump made us journey further down the road for an ATM. Once parked and inside you pass by a plethora of carny type food and toys, with many circus folks barking out what they are selling. All incredibly overpriced garbage both food and novelties alike. And they don't just stay in one area. All throughout the performances the vendors walked the crowd shouting out "popcorn, lemonade, laser guns, spinning tops!" Incredibly annoying. A lady two rows in front of me bought her kids some slushies for $12.00 a piece! There better be some booze in that because that's just cray cray! Once you get past all the junk food and novelties it really hits you. The barnyard smell of good ole poo. Which brought me to the realization that Oh my they still use animals in circuses?! Last time I attended a circus was over 30 years ago when they used tigers, lions, and monkeys and well you name it. I really thought that they stopped using animals and was pretty sad to see that they had about 5 camels that they were selling tickets to ride them in a small circle on the arena. We could also see two elephants that they brought out during intermission to also sell tickets for rides around a circle. It's pretty disheartening to know that they still imprison these ginormous creatures making them preform and live in small quarters. I felt pretty bad about that. I only hope that these types of performances are on the out and will not be continued much longer. The show that the performers put on was perfectly fine without the use of the animals. My favorite was a lady gymnast who had some mad parkour skills and shot a bow and arrow from her foot to break a balloon all while holding herself upside-down with just one hand. Total badass. Overall the circus was fun, but there is no need to have animals perform for the amusement of humans. Though it was an amazing thing to see, it's cruel and needs to stop. I don't think I would see another one if I knew they used animals. The facility was pretty run down too. I think Cal-U plays hockey there. Not a very clean place and I am not just talking about the elephant dung.

I brought my daughter here today for her first time skating. This was my first trip to the ice…read moregarden in years, I hadn't been here since I came to watch my high schools hockey games. I saw on Facebook they have a toddler ice skating class so we decided to try it out. The class was absolutely perfect. I have to say it really exceeded my expectations. I was really nervous about her being on the ice for the first time, especially without me, but the instructors were really great. They made the class fun for the kids and made sure everyone was included. The cost was 11$ which included skates and about an hour long class. We will definitely be back! (Helmet and gloves are required for ice babies class)
