Vinyl isn't dead! I was surprised at how many "records" as we used to call them were in this place. Some were new, some were used, some were rare and some were classics. The "Metal" section was pretty stocked with some cool picture disks. It's also wonderful looking at the album art in full album glory. I get the sense that you can sell records to the establishment as well, but not 100% certain. While we were there, some dude came in with a box of stuff and the guy working said he wasn't interested. I'm guessing it was a box of Nickelback merchandise. If you're into ribaldry, they also had old magazines of the adult kind, and I'm not talking about AARP. Let's just say if you're a fan of Bush, you'll probably find one of their records and photos from old skin mags. Breathe in, Breathe out, Breathe in, Breathe out. Ummmmm... No thanks! My youngest child bought themselves a record player for Christmas so they are in need of more records. As they have an interest in a lot of older music I felt the need to find record stores which are so few and far between these days. I did a search on Yelp and this one was one of the closest to me. Still quite a drive but it turned out to be totally worth it. When we arrived it looked like this small somewhat rundown store from the outside which was very reminiscent of record stores for me back in the '70s and '80s. When we walked through the door the first thing we encountered was a little scruffy dog who is the friendliest gentlest little thing you could ever hope to meet. I was with one of the other kids shopping for my youngest. We wandered through and looked at a little bit of everything. They have so much to look at and buy from records to CDs to movies and even some magazines. They had a wide variety of records ranging from 16 RPM all the way up to 78 RPM. For me it was wonderful to see so many old records that are so rarely encountered. And this visit we were focusing on 33 1/3's. We both asked about artists that we were looking for and hadn't found and the employees were very quick to find just what we were looking for. This turned out to be very dangerous for me as I ended up walking out with four items instead of one. The kid with me found an item for my youngest and also something for themselves as they hope to get their own record player soon. If you're looking for old or new records to play they may well have it in stock. They also have several that are very collectible. I found a full-sized copy of it's the great pumpkin Charlie Brown that was orange vinyl shaped like a pumpkin. Right then I knew I had to find something to buy and of course I did. They have a great selection and the staff is friendly and willing to help. This was a worthwhile place to shop. read more

Retro Records is one of the last actual record stores in the Orlando area. From what I understand it's been around since 1980. While a little rough around the edges, they have an extremely extensive selection of both used and new LP's, as well as a section of CD's, a small selection of cassette tapes, and even just a few 8-tracks. The owner is a nice guy who I believe used to work in radio in the area. His very well-behaved terrier roams around the front of the store as well. This place was pretty cool. TONS of vintage records. My fave part was all their memorabilia hanging around the store - from vintage lunch boxes to a big dang Marie Osmond doll. Lots to look at - definitely go when you have time! Some of be albums were a little pricey - definitely not a good spot if you're looking for a bargain. There were some bins of $2-5 albums, but I didn't really see anything worth purchasing. The man at the counter (owner maybe?) was a little odd though.. he seemed put off when I said I was just browsing because I just got a record player. First time here today although I've lived in this neighborhood for years, well overdue. The owner (I assume) quickly greeted me as I walked in. He volunteered a bin full of new vinyl arrivals, which was a nice greet! We chatted about a few of the album's at when I told him it was my first time in. He gave me the pretty grand tour! Walked me through the lay of the store, really great service! The store, tons of vinyl, especially classic older albums. A wall of DVDs and even one of vhs tapes! The interior could be better, it's pretty industrial in there! However, the prices on some of the vinyl might make you forget it. He offered up at some point even more suggestions as I shopped with an eye on my choices in arm already. I love it. Retro Records is a local mainstay filled with collectible finds from yesterday and the day before. "Pardon our dust, but we've got some old sh*t in here!" Great prices on used vinyl. You won't find the latest indie sensation albums, but you will find classic stuff for much cheaper than other record stores in town. MUCH cheaper. I just found some Stevie Wonder and Miles Davis (60's era) for under $15 each. If you like classic rock, jazz, soul, R&B and other normal forms of music, then you should come check this place out. This is a great hidden gem off Bumby Ave. in Orlando. The store mostly caters to hardcore collectors. There are bins of vinyl everywhere to go through. The best part about Retro is they keep the price fair. It's not always "cheap," depending on what you're buying but they are fair--unlike some other quite "un-heavenly" record stores in Orlando. My only complaint with Retro is that they put a price sticker directly on the cover of the records. I have a problem paying $30 for an old Beatles record when the cover has been defaced by the store. I understand that they put the price tags on the cover rather than the plastic outer sleeve so dishonest people can't switch sleeve but it still stinks for all the honest people out there. This is my 2nd favorite record store in Orlando, and also a "Must GO" when I'm in town and have time to spare. They have the best prices on clearance vinyl if you ever need to complete your collection, you'll find some neat stuff for a bargain. I see someone said they had a bad experience here, but I had nothing but good ones here. I bought so many records once, the guy even helped carry them out (and even gave up some boxes that I'm sure he needed so I could put them in). I bought some cool memorabilia there as well. Went here for the first time today. I was greeted at the door when I walked in but was not spoken to any more during my ~30 minutes browsing the shop. (I didn't mind though). As I was going through the records, I found a lot of great stuff. The problem was, almost everything worth buying in this store is almost $30. I get that they have to make a profit but I think lowering their prices would cause a lot of customers to frequent the business, as I am probably not going back any time soon :( read more

I just bought a record player and decided to stop in and check out the selection to build up my own collection, but was really underwhelmed by the shop. The owner is a chatty old man, loves to butt into your conversations, but is very helpful when you're looking for a specific LP. He certainly knows a lot about music and artists, and easily told me what section I could find my LP in. Unfortunately that wasn't enough to sell me on the place. I'd say about 90-95% of the LPs are old, overused, and overpriced. I only bought two out of the two dollar bin because I love Barbara Streisand and I couldn't resist. I don't think I'll come back here simply because of the price range and the quality of the LPs. Really the only perk of this shop if that it's right next to Pom Pom's! read more

Friday afternoon was a shopping day for my niece Jenna. She has a birthday coming up, and she is a fan of The Weeknd. Looking for any vinyl, I decided to stop in here since I have not been in here for quite awhile. A music fan can spend hours in here just going through the selection of vinyl that Retro Records has. The memorabilia alone makes the trip here worth taking. Kiss dolls, Cher dolls, Elvis figures, anything Beatles. Posters, tee-shirts, and you can find some neat picture discs going through the many bins of albums. Service is helpful, but that is about it. The person working the counter checked to see if there was any vinyl of The Weeknd in stock. And unfortunately, there was none available. And this is the day before Record Store Day. Later, when I was looking at the Beatles memorabilia, I made a comment to the sales rep sitting behind the counter about the Beatles film "Yellow Submarine". A personal favorite. Sitting behind the counter with his laptop, he made no effort to say anything. I know you heard me, because I am the only customer in the store. Who the hell else would I be talking to? At least I got a good bye as I left. You can practically spend an afternoon here browsing through all of the album bins. And the memorabilia makes it even more fun. But on this last visit, I found the store to be rather warm-hot. Is there a problem with the air conditioning? This is the second record store I have been in today where I have broken out in a sweat while shopping inside. I started looking around Orlando for music shops, and this was one that I found. It's funny, it looks like the place is in a time warp. Shag carpet, and the like. The selection was decent. You won't find everything you're looking for, but there are some good items, here. Like other people say, the prices are a little higher than music stores, but you never know what you'll find here, and perusing the selection is fun. Lots of merchandise, too, from bands ranging from AC/DC to The Monkees. When I visited, there was a young guy talking to the manager the whole time. I wanted to say hello to the manager, and maybe ask an opinion, but the customer just talked to him the whole time I was there. (From the other reviews, maybe it's best I didn't get to talk to him, lol) This is an alright place to visit. Mildly recommended. read more

If I were reviewing the vinyl, then it'd be 5 stars, easily, based on the abundance of 80's albums and 12" singles. The cd section was still extensive, but somewhat smaller than other stores. Still, some gems can be found in the cds! I dove into the 12" singles section and came up for air with a handful of 80's singles that I couldn't find anywhere else, even online. This store does a good job of handicapping other stores by offering these vinyl selections at more affordable prices. They have an extensive collection of CDs, LPs, and new vinyl, as well as collectibles, rare and hard-to-find items. We had just come in from Pom Pom Tea House, so we had to place our cups on the counter... lot of room (and coasters) as they are used to diners coming over to shop. I stopped in to Retro Records for the first time two weeks ago in the hopes of selling my old 33 and 45 record collection. I was surprised to find this little shop to be much larger than I expected, and to contain an excellent selection of records, DVD's, and memorabilia. A massive vinyl record inventory. It is all carefully organized and the proprietor is very knowledgeable. The gentleman studied each of my records carefully and promptly offered and paid me more than I expected.
