She was always very outdoorsy, and then one day it was like something snapped. She started peeing all over the house to avoid going outside, bucking on her leash uncontrollably when I opened the front door, she even jumped out of the (parked) car window to get back inside the house. I tried everything - popular YouTube training videos, vet consults, dog anxiety medication - nothing worked. Karen was my last hope. From the first session after the consult, Jasey was already responding to Karen's methods. Nothing was immediate, but Karen never promised it would be. Karen is an excellent dog trainer, but more importantly, she genuinely cares about making sure the human understands the "why" with the "how." She equips you with the knowledge to transform your dog. She goes way beyond training for compliance - that honestly just becomes an added bonus. Karen's tactics and methods create lasting behavior change. My incredibly anxious girl is able to relax on a dime because Karen taught me how to bring her from 100 to 0. Karen's sessions are incredibly thorough. She starts by explaining one or two skills, tells you why it's important for your specific dog at this moment, how it will help them toward your goal, models it for you, and then you spend the time practicing it together. She gives you corrective feedback during the practice. You get a packet with all the same information to help you remember what to do and how until the next session. But Karen doesn't stop there. She makes herself available to you in between sessions for questions and concerns. She'll study videos of you and your dog practicing the skill and provide feedback again if needed. She's super responsive. Karen is honest, confident, and flexible. She isn't going to give you a strategy or suggestion without making sure it is feasible for you first. She knows if it doesn't work for you, you won't do it! I promise you, if you do the work you will see changes in your dog that you didn't think were possible. My dog - who a month before Karen was so terrified to be outside I thought I'd have to keep her in a constant, mild state of sedation - doesn't even flinch at loud construction sounds, advances from other dogs, or me grabbing the leash anymore. It's amazing. If you are on the fence about contacting Karen, take the chance. You won't regret it.

I booked and waited to be able to chat through options that were available for my pup.  As many do, I work in an office setting, I waited for the call to come in which was minutes late (3 minutes if we're looking for details, 11:48 AM) I quickly listened to Karen's message and immediately called back (within 3 minutes of the missed call). There was no answer.  Within 5 minutes I'd also sent a follow up email explaining that I was still available and eager to discuss my pet, no response. Ever.  I should note, the message noted that I'm outside of her service area. Her website advertises D.C. training opportunities, lists an address in Mount Airy, where I'm from and where my family resides, I can work remotely from anywhere and can easily be available no matter where she requested to meet.  She also advertises boarding and training packages on the website which sparked my initial interest.  My family owned and a well known local kennel in the area for more than 30 years, I love the setting of Mullinex Mill Road (which is rural) and I thought it would be a better setting for my dog's training than some other businesses located in busier settings.  Put simply: I specifically sought out this trainer for their location.   After calling late for our scheduled consultation and no follow up in spite of a follow up email and phone call(and message) from me I'm bummed.  My family has owned and operated two local small businesses. I know things can get lost, but the lack of customer service was really disappointing.

Sometimes around holidays he even comes home with a scarf suitable for the occasion ;) Miss Gail has been grooming my Boomer puppy for ALL of his 15 years (except his first grooming before I met her, but more on that in a minute). She is AWESOME!! Very friendly. Very knowledgeable. Boomer loves her! Any time I put him in the car to go anywhere else he gets nervous. But when I tell him we're going to Miss Gails and start driving in her direction he calms down. She's got a cute little fire hydrant outside in her yard for the dogs to use before and after they go inside. I always make sure I give him a chance to use it before taking him in. And he has never gotten sick after being there. One time when he was really little I took him to Petsmart for his first grooming before I knew Gail. He threw up when he left there. That's when I decided not to use Petsmart and sought out a groomer with a personal touch. Miss Gail was exactly who I was looking for! Miss Gail's voice recording specifically states that for the SAFETY OF THE DOGS, she may not always be able to get to the phone so please leave a message. I would much rather leave a message than have her risk the safety of my dog while he's up on the table! Miss Gail's rates have always been very competitive and have remained constant over the many years I've been using her services, despite rising costs and a crumbling economy. In fact, I think I've been paying the same rate the entire 15 years! She does not expect a tip and is always very humble about accepting what little I give her over the holidays. Many times she doesn't even know how much I am paying her, as she is busy working with a dog when I come in, write a check, and lay it on the counter. Again, for the safety of the dogs she does not leave one unattended while working on them, even for a second! Miss Gail has been very accommodating to my schedule over the years. Boomer has a standing appointment every 6 weeks as does most of her clients. That means he's there with the same dogs each time. That makes it less stressful for him as even though he's around dogs not in is family, they are familiar to him. Throughout the course of Boomer's life I have had 4 children. Miss Gail even worked around my kids' nap schedule when they were little! And when I was in the hospital having my third child my mother in law was VERY VERY late picking Boomer up (HOURS). Miss Gail stayed at the shop and waited for her to come get him. She was very understanding and didn't even charge me extra for having to wait around. I felt HORRIBLE that it happened and when I apologized she told me not to worry it was no big deal. And now that Boomer is very old and sick she is even more accommodating. She makes sure to take care of him early so I can come get him and bring him home so he's not there too long. She calls me as soon as she's done with him so I know he's ready to be picked up. I will miss Gail very much once Boomer is no longer with me as my other dogs are of the shedding variety....although she will STILL be my go-to gal for nail trimmings and the once a hear shaving of my beagle ;)

Given that our dog is very much our baby and that I deal with anxiety disorder, we had a ton of questions, and Angie always had the answers and clear instructions. She made things immeasurably easier for us, our vet, and our Westie, and her colleagues made sure that everything was smooth and easy at both Dulles and Heathrow. During pick-up and check-in, we saw people who were traveling without agents, and it was obvious that their travel was more challenging. While we always knew that using Capital Pet Movers was a good choice, the stark contrast between how prepared their team (and, as a result, we) were compared to the other families traveling at the same time was additional confirmation that the decision to work with them was one of the best we made. Finally, it's important to note how kind and thoughtful every member of their team was throughout the process. No question was too small or silly, and they were focused entirely on making sure that our Westie was safe and happy and that we were confident about everything that was happening. Their expertise and kindness made a very stressful situation immeasurably easier, and we recommend them whole heartedly. Full of great information and they don't rush me out of appointments. They have been on time, every time, and they send me reminder texts when we need to come back for boosters. I can even text back to make the appointment, which is super convenient for when I'm working. I had a short list of recommended vets from my friends and I had an extremely difficult time even getting two other vets on the phone (and both couldn't see a new puppy for many weeks!) I then tried Village Vet. They answered my call, understood that the vaccines and roundworm meds were time sensitive for our new puppy, and got me in for an appointment right away. When I called later that night about his crying, they reassured me he probably felt bad after his vaccines and he'd be okay the next day. Sure enough, he woke up chipper and with the zoomies. I was so appreciative of their responsiveness to my call! They even doubled check with the vet, who called me back knowing it was our first dog, to let me know that Momo would be fine and vaccines can make them feel pretty rotten for a day. In November they sent a Black Friday email out that got me huge discounts on heart worm, flea and tick meds as well as his puppy food. Totally unexpected but very appreciated! Saved me almost $70 in one stop. This is our first dog and we have loved the care at Village Vet.

I would absolutely avoid this practice owner at all costs unless what your pet needs is minimal and…read moreyou know exactly what is needed (I.e. standard vaccinations for boarding, etc.) We came in to Gaithersburg Animal Hospital and unfortunately ended up working with Dr. Tidd. She came across to me as smart and understanding. But that proved to be just a false impression. Here was our experience; My dog had horrible, urgent diarrhea that contained some blood. I was very familiar with his already sensitive GI tract, and condition (IBD) and had already had several tests done on him in the past and tried every less extreme remedy to no avail (and his condition worsened) so I knew right where to start. I ordered an ultrasound. Miss Tidd also insisted I get an xray which made absolutely zero sense to me because; 1. I knew - and assured her - that he had no blockages; 2. An ultrasound would capture more tissue than an X-ray (I asked them to verify this and they wouldn't); and 3. Since he was having movement, obviously there was no blockage. I declined the xray and left that practice with very little information. When my dog's conditioned worsened still, I went to Dr. Tidd directly at Village Vet, explaining that he needed fluids and some more supportive care as his diarrhea was becoming involuntary and he wasn't eating and was becoming lethargic. She literally took one look at him while leaning against the counter in the exam room with her arms crossed, and zero examination and said he's not dehydrated - she could just tell. Then she went to the back and got a bowl of water and came out and plunked it down and my dog drank. It was as if she was trying to prove me wrong. I hesitantly agreed to more bloodwork that I didn't think necessary (since he'd just gotten that days earlier if not less), so she took him away with her - informing me that he took treats from her freely while he was away (after I informed her that he had severe allergies and IBD, and he was there for severe diarrhea, that struck me as incredibly negligent, and again it definitely felt like she was trying to disprove my statement that he wasn't eating... his prescription food). I came in for the specific purpose of getting him fluids so when we finally returned to that she said he doesn't need it. I said "Well, can we just do it anyway?" And she said no. She then explained that, since he was such a big dog, the amount of fluids he'd need versus the amount she could give wouldn't even be enough to help him. What kind of idiotic explanation is this? So I basically said I don't care - can we just give him whatever fluids you feel you can give him, and she again said no and AGAIN suggested we do X-rays which I declined. As we left I asked the tech for the results of the blood tests - everything normal ...except slightly elevated because he was dehydrated. Dr. Tidd also gave us a probiotic paste which I found silly since he wasn't eating, and I later found out that his system was simply washing out anything it came into contact with without absorbing it so the HUNDREDS of dollars we spent for the visit, the blood test, and some stupid probiotics was a total complete waste, and roadblock to getting my boy proper treatment. I found another vet (Bennett Creek AH) who actually examined my baby before informing me that his gums were tacky and he was still lethargic, so he was absolutely in need of fluids, and he'd already lost 5 pounds from not eating. I wanted to beat her to the punch so I said "in case you think he needs X-rays I don't want -" and she cut me off and said that if we had an ultrasound we didn't need any X-rays and confirmed that the constant diarrhea was strong evidence against any blockage. She also instructed me about the GI system and how certain diarrhea presents and how cases of blockage present and my boy didn't fit the profile for a blockage. He received hydration but then the diarrhea turned to straight blood - a condition known as hemmorhagic gastroenteritis, which can be deadly, and which has an unknown cause. He was hospitalized for 2 nights, receiving fluids and supportive care before finally pulling out of it. My guess is that he was exposed to toxins in the soil from then sudden and large amount of Spring rain. With the correct supportive care from a much better vet he pulled through and fairly quickly started eating and gaining his lost weight back. Dr. Tidd just wasted a huge amount of time and money and flatly turned away care that was absolutely needed. I definitely do not recommend this doctor at either one of her practicing locations.
