My review is based on a single experience so... that said, this place absolutely exceeded my expectations. I know what you may be thinking - dingy strip mall location, how good could they be?? VERY. I brought in some Foehn brand pants that were too long, even at inseam 30 (I'm 5'11"). The problem is, they're not your traditional hem job since both pants have elastic hems as well as zippers at the leg cuff. So I was worried it would cost a bundle to shorten them, but the lovely lady who is apparently there FRI-SAT only (I think -I overheard her tell that to a customer) brilliantly suggested that we instead cut the pant leg at the knee, lose the material from there, and re-sew it. AMAZING RESULTS. I'm raving on because I'd had these pants for literally close to two years without wearing them since they were too long and I am so jazzed to finally wear them and have them fit right. Work requested: Basic hemming of my back pack shoulder/arm slings that had become undone. Before dropping it off I asked if this was something they could do and the two ladies that were there said yes. I dropped it off on a Friday and they said it would be ready by Tuesday of the following week. I proceeded to pick it up on the following Friday (3 days passed Tuesday) and upon requesting my back pack, the lady didn't comment, she just went back and called for the other lady to start working on "the back pack". Both ladies stayed in the back without any information relayed to me. They just made me wait as I watched them begin the work on my back pack. I stated to them that if it wasn't done I could come back since I had to do other errands. They said no because it would be done in minutes. It was obvious they didn't touch my bag since the drop off. They rushed the work and the quality reflected it. The craftsmanship was very poor and already coming undone. I was unsatisfied w the work and requested a refund. In order to get my refund they said they would have to undo the work they did. Unbelievable. I told them to go ahead and undo their poor quality of work and to please give me my money back. I do not recommend this place. I just went to pick up pants which had a whole in them. I arrived at 6:20 when they said to come at 6:30. The girl who works at the front desk was very rude and kept rolling her eyes and shrugging her shoulder. I arrive and she simply pointed to a sign saying, "we work minute by minute". I understand I was 10 minutes early, however when I arrive she took my pants off a giant pile of clothes on a table and had clearly not begun working on it. When I asked if they would be ready tonight, the girl shrugged her shoulders and didn't give me a solid answer. They changed their name to Quick Alterations. They did a crappy job on my suit coat, after expressing my unhappiness and requesting additional work (they claimed it was fine) they said they take the coat back to the original form. Dropped my dress off early afternoon explaining I needed same day alterations. They said earliest would be next day at 4:30, I agreed. I needed this for an event & explained that. I showed up at 4:10 the following day & they hadn't even started on it! They said it won't be done till 4:30 and it was next to be worked on. I first started going to take jeans that needed extra side pocket space for my phone. Even though it was a strange request, they did a good job for a fair price. Next, took in some of my husband's work slacks for repair and same thing. Recently, I trusted them with my daughter's wedding dress alterations. She works out of town so it was a one-time visit until just before the wedding. They were so nice and did a good job. She came back day before and they did the final hem then and there. They also did a fitting for my husband's fifty year old three piece suit (made in London) that my son wore to his sister's wedding and did a wonderful job on that as well. The worse experience ever. Owner put in a "invisible zipper" with 2 layers of stitching... when I told her that was not considered invisible she said she'd been in business for 28 years. They took off the eye hook that I had previously paid them to put on. Threads hanging from zipper and uneven stitching all over. I could have done better myself. After reading all of the positive reviews, I decided to take my wedding dress in for alterations. It has many many organza layers at the bottom. It was too long and I needed it shortened, bustled, and the straps shortened. She even showed me the different types of bustles and what they would look like in order to help me decide what I wanted. My dress turned out beautiful. I will be taking all my clothes here in the future for alterations. You won't be disappointed. read more

They do a decent job on basic hems. But once I took a dress that I wanted to change the side slit a little, and they completely ruined the movement of the dress. This place does not seem to take design into mind when making other changes. read more

Ok,... I'm gonna be honest with you guys. Let me just throw it out there. I don't know about women's clothing, BUT I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR MEN'S SUIT ALTERATIONS. I did business with them 4~5 times all for men's suit. Let me give you a few instances of what happened. The first visit that I paid, I did it because I read a lot of good reviews about this place (although I should've realized that these were written by female customers who needed alterations on clothings for women). I gave them a new suit on which I needed a waist suppression. They pinned it themselves, gave me a turn-around time. I stopped by a few days later for pickup. Jesus, they made that suit feel like a corset. Yes, I told them I wanted a slim silhouette with a nipped waist line, and we both agreed on the altered fit with pins. But the final product turned out to be way tighter. I ended up leaving it there for additional days. I don't know exactly what happens during the altering process, but they promised me it's going to come out pretty much exactly like how it's pinned. It DID NOT. I paid another visit with another suit that I bought, hoping they made a mistake on the first suit because everybody makes mistakes. I wanted to taper sleeves and waist, get rid of excess fabric on the back under the collar. They told me it'd be ready in a few days. I stopped by for pickup. They didn't even get rid of the bunching under the collar, and the whole back panel became so bumpy along the three seams on the back. The vents became all ugly. I lost all hopes and faith with them. I ended up taking it to another tailoring shop, willing to pay additionally. So, these are a few instances that I've experienced with them. Horrible experience. I brought my wedding dress in to get altered and they gave me a time to pick it up. I get a call one hour before picking it up, telling me the lady isn't in and won't be there for two hours past my appointment time. So I nicely tell them I'll come in at the new time but when I get there, the dress isn't ready. When it was ready, it didn't for right. So they schedule me to come back in two days. Upon driving in an hour of rush hour traffic for 20 miles, I get there just to be told that it's not ready and to come back the next day. They didn't call me or anything. I've taken several pairs of pants here to be hemmed and I definitely recommend them. There is always someone available to take your measurements if you, like me, can't be trusted to do this correctly at home and I've never had much of a wait. They do good work and have pretty quick turnaround times for a reasonable price (about $9 for unlined dress pants). read more

Where do I begin, here we go, I was in need of a seamstress for my wedding dress, searched all of San Antonio, Tx and wasn't pleased with any of the places I found. I searched some more and found Retoucherie De Manuela and when I came in they were very friendly and I felt like this place was the place that I would need my dress to be Altered at, well Mr.Rafael Macaya and Kelly are the best in town. I needed my dress for July 16th, 2011 and it's very detailed Wedding Dress with sequince and lace, I asked Kelly will you be able to get my dress to fit my body, now mind I am not a FAT or a very PETITE girl but it needed a little taking in to fit me the way I wanted it too. Mr Macaya and Kelly both said yes they will take care of my dress, they even suggested that I take a before and after pictures, my picture is in there store for show. Kelly told me she would have my dress ready quickly, I took my Wedding dress to Retoucherie in May 2011 and I explained to Kelly and the MR. that I was in no hurry for the dress but that I would need it before July 16 2011, Kelly said no problem I will have you come in few time for fitting. I showed up for my 1st fiting and she still thought it needed a little more of takening in, so I had 3 more fittings before the Wedding but at the last fitting Kelly noticed and asked me if I had lost weight and I told her yes 20 lbs, I was determined to look like a beautiful bride, well she said ok you look great please don't loose any more weight cuz the dress was done. I said all this to say that Kelly is wonderful at what she does, a great Seamstress. I truly recommend this place RETOUCHERIE DE MANUELA for whatever alterations you need. I also wen t 2nd time a year later to have Kelly put a Corsett on another gown and it turned out great, I again have gone back this time, 14 Oct 2013 and brought Kelly another dress to be hemmed and I told Kelly that I need the dress by Friday she assured me it will be done, trust me when I say all this it's true, Kelly is great. I have always gotten my clothes altered here and been very pleased that I would also recommend everyone to go here. I took my bridesmaids dress here in May and will never be going back again. I was charged way more than I was the previous time I had taken a different bridesmaids dress and had more done to it. The employee that helped me was very rude and claimed that she didn't notice it was a 2 layered dress even though she saw it before I tried it on. It was too long on the bottom and instead of pinning it up, like I've always had it done, she proceeded to cut around my whole dress making it very uneven. She also told me that I shouldn't fix the top part because the top of my arms would stick out, even though it was too big. I called to complain about the employee and in return I received an $8.00 credit for my next visit! I was very displeased with the quality and service that I have received and will not be going back or recommending it to anyone. I have since found a new place to take my clothes. read more

Guys. This place is AMAZING. I had bought a wedding dress from David's bridal and figured I would just let them alter it(famous last words) and they completely screwed up the straps, there was an inch difference in the lengths, the hem was an inch shorter on the left side of my dress and after those two screw ups and being 400 dollars poorer, I looked elsewhere. Y'all, I was panicked. My wedding was 2 weeks away. I took it to these guys and do you know what they did? Fixed the hem, fixed the straps, added bra cups between the bust layers, took the boned bodice in a whole size AND added a French bustle. Do you know how long it took? EIGHT DAYS. EIGHT FREAKING DAYS. Do these people have magic wands or sewing elves?!?? On top of it all, it cost me 160. That's it. I don't even know how these magical people make money. read more

DON'T EVER EVER EVER trust them with your clothes or prices. Went to drop off a dress on Tuesday. The lady in the front said they could have it ready for a fitting Thursday at 11am. She said that she didn't know an exact amount but that it would be around $30 ON THE HIGH end to add material on the side and $12-15 ON THE HIGH end to add material on the straps. I specifically said so it won't be no $70-$80 dollars and she said "oh no". So I agreed to leave it. I showed up today (Thursday at 11am) and the seamstress lady said she didn't know what to do to my dress so it wouldn't be ready to give her 20 minutes. After 20 minutes a man came to tell me to come back later this afternoon and my dress would be ready. Not one time did they mention my dress was going to cost more than 2X the amount originally given. I went back at 3:15 and the seamstress tells the girl in the front that it would be $75!!!!!! I would have never agreed to that price. Called to complain and the seamstress said she has rent to pay and it wasn't her fault!!! She states I could go get my dresses if I wanted too but she would take all her work off and leave it in PIECES. I'm telling you, don't ever ever ever take your stuff there. Extrememly bad customer service and you won't be happy!!!!! I will also be reporting this so called "business." read more
