Dr Waterhouse and the treatment staff were thorough and very professional including providing laser treatment for a retinal tear after business hours following a comprehensive examination. Dr. Waterhouse fixed my retina detachment in mid-2023 and my vision slowly became worse. I finally went to the University of Utah where they identified the issue: Dr. Waterhouse used silicone oil to fix my retina. I learned that this oil was mixing with water inside my eye and emulsifying---creating bubbles which blurred my vision. He refused to correct the problem so after almost two years of near blindness, I went to the Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah who fixed it and restored my vision. . read more

Susan, the billing person, is rude and unprofessional. She lied, failed to file our claim with our insurance and said she would send us a claim form and we could do it ourselves, even though they are an in network provider. We were quoted a price and then billed a much higher price. We were told we were sent a statement outlining everything "a week and a half ago" only to find out it was never sent. Don't hold your breath if you leave a message because you will wait over a week to get a call back. I recommend you go somewhere else because she clearly should not be in the healthcare business. read more

The employees at the Retina Center will let you know they are the only Center in western CO. They pride themselves on we don't need you, you need us. Well, our recommendation would be to take your business elsewhere. It's really to bad because we thought Dr. Waterhouse was a good doctor and a kind gentleman. The staff has just been given to many liberties and they have become accustomed to being very rude to the patients. The office manager Susan is the worst. Glenwood and Durango are not that far away. I recently visited this office and was very pleased with the staff for the most part. The office has reinstated mask protocal, which is fine, however I was reprimanded for not having a mask on with a distance of 15-20 feet. I'm a nurse so I know the guidelines well and I pointed out that I was more than 6 feet away, to which the response was, 'but you're still breathing'. Please educate your petty office manager of the guidelines, and perhaps not treat patients like infants. read more

My husband needed emergency retina surgery. I was just out of the hospital on crutches with a broken femur, so a neighbor dropped us off. The staff was furious that I wouldn't stand out on the side walk, on crutches, in the heat while the hour+ surgery was being done! They said they didn't have room in the waiting room. I was literally the only one in the waiting room at the time. For subsequent visits they were very rude & irritated that I politely stated, "I am recovering from femur surgery & I'm not sitting in 100 degree weather out on the sidewalk". They finally gave me a list of other retina centers in Glenwood Springs, Durango, & Denver, "because they can refuse service to anyone ". We already have an appointment with a very reputable surgeon who comes to Glenwood on Thursdays & Fridays monthly. We're happy to be getting a second opinion on his eye care anyway. I highly recommend you assist your elderly parents in getting the care they need without putting the caregiver/driver one at a serious health risk in extreme weather outside! read more

In Sept. 2024, I awoke to a torn retina and severely impaired vision. I called the Retina Center, explained what was going on and they said if left untreated could cause blindness in my right eye, and to come right in. Within an hour and a half of the call, Dr Waterhouse was repairing the torn retina. After a two week healing period, my eyesight was perfect again. The staff was helpful, caring, and positive. It is amazing how every so often you run into a private practice where the doctors allow their staff not just slack in their service roles but go the opposite direction to the point of ensuring every experience is miserable. This is 100% that place. If you want to be subjected to unprofessional rude behavior EVERYTIME, then this is your Retina Clinic. Oh and if you want a diagnosis by someone other than a doctor. This is also your place. Make an appointment and you will see. I really couldn't believe it was always this way, so I used them 3 time before realizing this is how they do business. Have been here twice for retina problems. Each time have had the normal testing for retina related problems. But when it came time to see the Doctor you only have a short time with him and receive a short explanation of what the problem is. Very little of what to expect in the future. read more

My Dad has seen them 2 times. The Dr stated that he needs to go to another facility to get a procedure done before they can do the procedure with them. My Dad has been to their office several times to get his file to take to the other facility. He was told that he could not have a copy of his file to hand carry over. So I called back to the Retina Center to try to help get things figured out. The first call they disconnected me so I called back. The second call they connected me to Susan who was extremely rude and said my Dad stuff was not an emergency so she would get to it when they can! Susan told me not to call back and they would send me a list of other facilities that can do what The Retina Center does! I would not recommend them for any procedure as they patients are not important to them! read more

I had an unexpected, emergency retina issue. Not only did the Retina Center get me in as an emergency case, after a small communication issue, they have been fabulous!! Not going to lie, getting eye care at a strip mall took me back for a second, but the space is large and comfortable. My appt. was at 2:30 and I was in surgery at 6. Dr Waterhouse explained everything to me, answered all of my questions and the follow up care has been excellent. I have nothing but praise and love for the folks at the Retina Center. read more

My husband, a Vietnam veteran, suffered a traumatic eye injury and was referred to The Retina Center by the Veterans Hospital. He has been to the office on three occasions and each time the office staff have been extremely rude, condescending and disrespectful. The front office personnel literally yelled at my husband repeatedly on each occasion in front of everyone in the waiting room regarding the bill. They continually stated the hate the VA and accused my husband of not paying the bill. Finally on the third visit after again being yelled at and treated horribly a staff member found a "misfiled" payment statement and told my husband never-mind it was misfiled. Extremely upset my husband asked for an apology after being demeaned, embarrassed and harassed. She rolled her eyes at my husband and walked away. Dr Harder was informed of how badly my husband was treated and he ignored him and just said, well what about your eyes. The culture in this office is extremely toxic and they treat their patients/customers with condescension and disrespect. If they treat people who have sacrificed for their country in this manner how must they abusively treat all other patients? Horrible practice. I have been going to Dr. Harder for a couple of years and have absolute trust in him. My Macular Degeneration has stabilized under his care. I never have to wait too long in the waiting room. Front desk staff are nice. My only complaint is the billing office. My invoice did not show payments from insurance company or what I had paid. There was only a balance due. When I moved here 6 months ago my previous doctor in Durango told me they were the only retina specialists available in G.J. and that I wouldn't like going there as they didn't treat patients well and he was right. I enjoy taking her on treatment days because the staff is friendly and efficient, there are rarely delays, and the injections are given by Dr. Harder in a friendly and professional manner.
