The lead up to the job was smooth. We were doing the exterior of our house. Gary was professional and polite, listening to all the things we wanted. Repairs on the front and back porch were done well and quickly. Painting began was a series of delays and errors. There were issues getting crew. When crew did show there would be problems - wrong colors, sloppy edges, paint of different colors on parts that were already painted, areas without two coats, paint on the roof shingles. Painting started first week of July. Job was still not finished in September when I sent a list of all the touch ups needed - 18 different items! Once the main part of the house was done, our job was last on his list. Gary would come over every two weeks and work for maybe an hour and then leave. He persuaded us to pay more and more portions of the job (needed to pay his crew, needed more supplies, etc.) to where it got down to only about 300 dollars left. He seems really nice and affable so we empathized with him. He told me to give him the list of the touch ups and asked for the remaining portion of the money, which I stupidly gave him. He never came back to do anything after that. Our final communication with him was a request/demand that he finish (this was beginning of October!) and he said the reason why he didn't come to do the job was because we were always nagging him about finishing. What?!? Do the job you were paid to do. We are now left with a house that, from a distance, looks pretty good. But upon closer inspection, it's all sloppy and seems as if it was painted years ago. If you do choose to work with Gary, do not let him persuade you to pay him bit by bit. Pay half up front and half when totally done to your liking! read more
