I am a retired esthetician of 18 years, who's had massage all over the world, from beach stalls to five star hotels and this experience was shockingly poor. First, I started face down but my headrest was too high so the therapist kept banging into the bottom of my head to access my neck. She seemed oblivious to this and unaware that an adjustment was needed. I scheduled a 60 minute classic massage because I just wanted to relax. I did not request stones but suddenly the massage stopped. Without saying anything she left the room to retrieve stones that were much too hot for my skin and that I did not want. Then to top it all off, she stuck her hands in my hair and started rubbing my scalp. I was actually shocked because everyone in hospitality knows that you NEVER touch a client's head, stomach or breast without verbal permission. These are highly personal potential trigger areas. When she asked me to turn over she never moved from the top of the table. A privacy towel was not held up. (What school did she graduate from??) I thought she would begin working my neck and shoulders which is why I came, but she stuck her hands back in my hair. At that point I asked her to stop. If she has a legitimate license she needs to practice on co-workers to improve her performance. But I'm assuming the other therapists are better. Hopefully they are.

They show me to their comfortable waiting nook with nice plush chairs. The bathroom is right down the hall if needed. Right on time, my massage therapist comes out, and walks me back to the treatment rooms, which have always been comfortable, clean, and well-maintained. After a quick chat, I'm left to undress and then I get an hour of pure relaxation. I've seen a handful of therapists at this location, and while they each have different skills, I've never been disappointed. When it's time to go, the therapists always offer a glass of water to stay hydrated, and walk me to the front of the building to see me off.

I was able to buy a Groupon for this session and so the price was very reasonable. I know nothing about these kinds of procedures so did some research on the Lapex 2000 LipoLaser. In Lipo Laser the machine uses light wavelengths to target fat cells; the paddles are placed on the skin for 10 minutes or so and the procedure is totally non-invasive. I met with Dr. Grim who was friendly, knowledgeably answered all of my questions and gave me some additional tidbits to think about. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical about whether I would see any results. Like many women near 50 I have a few pounds that just refuse to go away. Dr. Grim has administered thousands of sessions with over 2,000 customers, so he has been around the block and has some great lessons learned to share with his patients. Measuring my abdomen before and after proved that I actually lost 2 full inches just from this one session. I am more motivated to continue my more healthy eating habits and regular exercise along with these Lipo Laser appointments. However, I was experiencing immense neck pain at the time and was at my limit--I would've done anything to make the pain go away and go away for good. My cousin suggested Dr. Chris to me and after that very first visit, I had fallen in love with chiropractic care and continue to go to Balance for both my injuries and preventative care. Dr. Chris is incredibly knowledgeable. He'll answer every question I have and never makes me feel rushed. Some visits, I don't even mention what areas are bothering me, but it always seems like as soon as I get on the table he finds the exact spot that's causing the trouble. The location has also been very convenient no matter where I lived. It's right near Rittenhouse Sq and there's tons of public transportation options. I work near by and so quick lunch appointments are a plus. Several occasions I've stopped by without an appointment, and they always squeeze me in. Sometimes I'll have to wait a few minutes to be seen, but it's worth it--plus who doesn't expect some kind of wait for a doctor's appointment? I'd much rather wait 10 mins for an adjustment and feel instant relief than wait 45 mins at my primary for them to tell me there's nothing they can do about my neck pain. Over the years, I've also taken advantage of the monthly sales they've had to offer. I've had massages with Kathy, Steven, and Jeannille. These three therapists all have different styles, but every massage I've had has been fantastic. I wouldn't consider Balance to have a "spa-like" atmosphere, but I would much rather get a massage here than anywhere else as they are focused not only on relaxation, but also and more importantly, on healing.
