My two children attended RMS for the 2024-2025 school year and will attend this upcoming school year. They are now 2.5 and 7, and were 1.5 and 6 when they started. They both love the school and their teachers. My older child has several health issues and the public school was not able to keep him safe and learning there for kindergarten, and we are so grateful to the RMS staff for their wonderful care and support for him during his 1st grade year. Before we found them, I wasn't sure if I'd have to figure out how to homeschool him (while working) but he's very social and I really hoped to find a school environment for him that would work. I am grateful we did. They have been very flexible to meet his needs and integrate him into the school community. This was the first daycare/school setting for my 2.5yo and she cried the first two weeks but then adjusted and is happy there. She is very attached to her teachers and classmates. She loves going to weekly French class, music class and PE, doing her work and going to recess each day. RMS has many engaging school-wide events for the children, from the International Peace Day celebration to the International Day luncheon, from the Thanksgiving potluck to the Mother's Day and Father's Day events. The upper classes have many activities too, including monthly field trips, ice skating lessons for 8 weeks in the winter, a spring play and spring art show and more. The director is kind, personable, and always makes time to talk. I was so impressed that during the first week of school, she already knew all the children by name and took time to greet them. We are looking forward to another wonderful year at RMS. read more

Teaching quality at RMS is outstanding. Our children have excelled being a part of the community. Unfortunately, however, communication from the administration is poor and consists primarily of solicitations for continuing our "montessori journey". Emails or phone calls to the administration go ignored. Policies, procedures, and school calendars are changed frequently with little warning and no parental input. The school PTA means well, but has no communication with the administration. The owner has provided no contact information and is unreachable. To date during the current COVID-19 crisis, we have only received one email from the administration telling us they are "brainstorming ideas". No information on tuition, virtual learning options, summer plans, etc. FCPS sends out daily emails, by contrast. read more

I submitted an application for my 3 year old and did a virtual interview. I explained that my son had some behavioral issues in the application. He was asked to leave the school within 3 hours of drop off because he was a disruption to class. I understand that and he is in a school that is equipped to teach him in the best environment for him. The school explained that they had not read the application and was filling an opening in the class and had they read the application, they would not have moved forward with acceptance. It is a big effort to apply to school and not have the forms read by the administrative staff at the office. My son was sitting in their office on the floor when he was picked up, eating lunch alone. I understand him not being a good fit, but not reading his application and having him sitting on the floor for lunch is just so awful. I do not recommend unless your child needs the bare minimum regarding guidance from teachers and school staff. It took weeks to get them to refund the tuition, but they did end up doing that at least. read more

I'd like to start this by saying that I'm more of a reader of reviews than a writer. However, due to my experience with this school I felt like I had to write one. This school is AMAZING. From the ground up it has everything my child needs to thrive. I had to move my son to RMS in the middle of the year after he had some issues with his old school. I applied and was called for an interview by the director, Ms. Eliana. Ms. Eliana is the kindest, most caring and compassionate woman I have ever worked with. She was incredibly understanding of my son's needs and worked with him and I throughout the whole process to ensure it was a smooth and efficient transition. Every question I asked was returned with a comprehensive answer and every need I had was fulfilled. As my son entered the robin room halfway through the year, his teachers worked with him to catch him up to the other students. He has never expressed trouble with the material in class and the teachers are always quick to let me know of any issues. My son has gone to a number of schools in his lifetime, but so far, RMS is his favorite. At his old schools he used to come home worn out and tired, but at RMS he doesn't even want to leave! He loves his peers as well as his teachers and he seems to learn something new every day. Without a doubt, RMS has the best school environment I have ever seen. I'll have to say, I was worried that switching to a this school halfway through the year would be a rough transition but it has been delightful. I would give this school negative stars if I could. My son recently attended Reston Montessori for 3 months in Spring 2013 to determine it was a good fit for him. We determined it was not. I question the integrity and ability of the staff - especially the upper school teacher and the academic therapist. They barely did math or science and I think I spent more time talking to the upper school teacher about her health issue than how my son was performing in the class. In my opinion, she seems disorganized and not very brighter herself. I don't think my son received much instruction. My son also has dyslexia, and one of the reasons we chose the school was chose the school was because they have an academic therapist on staff who could work with him. Although she said she could work with him 3 times a week, it turned out to be more sporadic -down to 1 time a week- which isn't good for dyslexics. So, we just continued doing the reading program that we were doing at home. Also the academic therapist told me that there are kids that are probably dyslexic in the school, but they haven't told the parents. So if you are a parent at the school, make sure you truly understand how your child is doing because these people may not tell you. My son did have an easy transition to the school, got along with all the kids and didn't have any issues. His report card showed good marks in everything - behavior and academics. (although reading, writing and spelling were lower due to his dyslexia). However, the teacher told me my son could read better than some of the other kids in the class that were older. And, she was telling me not to worry about the reading since it seemed that my son was doing fine. She told me he was more advanced in math and if he went there the next year he'd be with the older kids in a higher math level. When we moved and decided to apply and enroll my son in another private school that went up to 12th grade and had great supports for dyselxics, as well as sports, the upper school teacher wrote a teacher recommendation that ranked my son in most things in the "fair" and "poor" categories for my son. This was very different from his report card and everything she told me about my son. For instance she gave him a "3" for Works Independently (which means developmentally appropriate), but then gave him a "Poor" on his recommendation. She also did this for several other areas. She also put in the recommendation that my son worked with the academic therapist- making it sound like she worked with him all the time - which wasn't the case since she wasn't available. Also, she gave my son a low ranking for "integrity". She also wrote in "Okay", just above "not trustworthy". However, her daughter is in the class and the teacher even told me that her daughter sneaked down stairs at their home and peaked at everyone's grades and then teased my son about his grade. If anyone has integrity issues, she should look inside her own home. There was no explanation about why she questioned my son's integrity and there was never any communication about this while he was in school. We think that the teacher's actions are in retaliation for us not returning - she lost several kids and now only has a class of 9 - which is a large amount of tuition money. I sent an e-mail to the school to ask for clarification and to talk about the discrepancies between the report card and my the teacher recommendation.I made a chart showing all the discrepancies. I got a response from the director saying they will not discuss the recommendation and to communicate with their attorney. In the e-mail from the director they said that on the recommendation that the teacher wrote that she her evaluation was based on a short period of time. If that was the case, she still could have evaluated him consistently - as she did in the report card. The discrepancies do not make sense. So, please learn from my experience - this is not a school that has your child's or family's interest at heart. They are not nice people. If they were, they'd take the time to talk to us and give us an explanation. Another thing the school seems unclean, especially the bathrooms. read more

From my initial visit I was impressed with Eliana's professionalism and genuine sense of kindness. It is a HAPPY place, a nurturing environment, and a very clean home away from home!
