I was focused on the bifanas that Portugal was known for. I skimmed the chalkboard out the door as we passed by and my hunger instincts were right. The restaurant was small and intimate seating was at par with eateries in the area. A lot of musical instruments and trinkets adorn the walls which made up for an interesting gaze fest as we waited for our food. Lunch rush was ongoing so we had to settle being sat at the bar. That's always a plus as we got to witness the buzzing crew efficiently feed the customers. We got 4 kinds of appetizers that our server recommended. They were all good but we liked the casserole baked dish the best. My wife and I shared a rice plate of the bifanas (spicy pork steak) with fries. For drinks, I got a bottled Compal juice while my wife got her afternoon macchiato. Our bill was a grand total of €17. I even corrected them as our bottle of water wasn't included in the chit. Not bad for a hole in the wall tavern. Good food and excellent service.

We waited for over an hour for a table and I was hoping the wait would be worth it but unfortunately it wasn't. The service was great and the ambiance was crowded. Not worth the wait.

Particularly good were the Marinated Scallops on an avocado cream, and Oven Roasted Cheese from Nisa. The "Prego" steak sandwich is an excellent variant of a local favorite. Prawns à Bulhão Pato and Cod Nuggets lacked inspiration. The desserts are decadent, the Chocolate is a cup of delight, be sure to spoon to the bottom, and Cantinho chocolate cake has a center you will enjoy. Service was excellent in the old house wood paneled dining room. The wine list is a curated local collection.

We came around 6pm on a Tuesday with no reservations and was able to sit at the bar (2 people). They were able to seat three parties of 2 at the bar and afterwards were turning away any parties that did not have a reservation. So I would definitely recommend making a reservation or going right when they open to sit at the bar! This meal was absolutely so comforting, we ordered the bread service to start and it came with these two sauces (one truffle) that were so worth it. We ordered the octopus ceviche and green bean tempura to start. The octopus was so fresh and refreshing! The tempura was a little heavy for me. For mains we ordered the bifana and risotto. The beef in the sandwich was super tender however our favorite was the risotto. If you get fries on the side of the bifana this is an extra charge, however the whole meal is so cheap that you probably won't even notice.
