Chon is fun, but it's only OK. The reality is that Restaurante Chon has capitalized on a niche cuisine: Pre-Hispanic Indigenous Mexican. It is fun to walk around looking for this hidden spot deep in the heart of El Centro, and discover a world decorated with wild animals before tasting the palette of a lost culture. Walking away, you will be able to tell your friends that you ate ant larvae and wild boar and creatures that you won't find on any other menu. Still, while this meal is guaranteed to be an adventure, the truth is that this ancient cuisine has died out for a reason. You won't go running back because the food is delicious, but you will tell all of your friends because Chon offers the opportunity for bragging rights. Go for the opportunity.
