It was about 10 minutes before our server took our drink order, and another 10 before he checked back to see if we were ready to order (we were). Any time we needed anything, including the check at the end, we would have to flag him down and ask. I don't recall him checking on us once during the entire meal. Service was average, at best. But the food, was very good. My wife had the pumpkin ravioli, and I had the ham, egg and cheese rosti. Along with a good German beer and my wife's choice of a prosecco, we were happy with the food....except for the bottle of water for the table.....that I was charged 11 euros for! If I were a local, or could speak German, I would go back for the food. Back as an American, I felt a little overlooked and unwelcome in the end.

The waitress was lovely and spoke English to help me along. I sat outside and watched the sunset. This is important to know: they take AMEX! Most places in Europe do not and I was so happy to have my corporate AMEX accepted. I highly recommend for a small bite after taking in the sight of Basel.

The dish they served as garlic focaccia was, I will admit, different from what I expected - which is maybe why I was a little disappointed. It was essentially a thin pizza crust baked with drizzled olive oil and garlic. But again, I was starving and eagerly awaiting my lasagna....waiting...and I ate it. Not bad, but - not fulfilling. The lasagna - I was almost too full to eat at this point because, despite my best efforts to not eat all of the "focaccia" - it took so long, it could not be helped. However, I was so pleasantly surprised to find that it was most certainly worth the wait! It was just the perfect balance of meat, pasta and cheesy, heavenly deliciousness.
