Every time I go to Montreal I go get my favorite pizza. Service and seating meets the need for this busy restaurant

Very disappointing. I've been going to woodland my entire life. Today I ordered a pizza and a poutine, when my mother and I ate the pizza we noticed the crust had a totally different taste. The dough was thicker and tasted weird. The crust itself was a totally different shape and had less air pockets. We turned over a slice and saw puncture marks like the pizza dough was mechanically made, they used to hand toss their dough but not anymore! There was less sauce than normal as well. The poutine was also strange. The sauce and fries tasted different and they did not baked it like they normally do. Very disappointing that they no long make their own crust. I grew up in Verdun and can't guess how many Woodland pizzas I consumed over the years. "Nothing" came close to the taste and value of their pizza and poutine. I was in the area yesterday and of course dropped by to get a pizza and poutine. They must have changed owners because the usual thick pizza toppings are "half" of what they used to be and the poutine sauce has changed. It used to be an amazing thick, brown poutine sauce and is now a thin, orange, cheaply made sauce with too much cinnamon. I was devastated to know that the restaurant I loved for well over 40 years is no more. read more

Pizza and poutine is solid here. Had family in Verdun all my life so I'd have it often when visiting them, always enjoyed it.

These guys have been heroes and have continued their delivery service during this Coronovirus pandemic. They have closed down their in-dining area until further notice but their home delivery and pick-up service is continuing. read more

Imagine that feeling u get when someone tells u: "oh their *insert menu item here* is the best you've ever had!!" ...it's partially like "Challenge accepted!" and partially like "yah right dude calm down i'm sure it's not that good". That's how this place is to burgers...and in my opinion, burgers ONLY. All 4 stars of this rating go to the burgers. That situation occurred originally with their pizza. So i tried it and it was the latter reaction. My boyfriend likes their pizza though. Personally i don't. Imo their pizza is awful and not worth a second thought ever. The sauce is bland and yet sweet but watery ...the dough seems like the stuff u get from a chain or cheap place, the toppings are rubbery and meh. I know ppl will flip out for me saying this but it's true, their pizza sux balls. Their poutine too is a terrible disaster of a Québécois slap in the face. The fries are at best ok on their own (but they really aren't very good at all) and their cheese and gravy both in taste and quantity fails to do anything but disappoint. Their subs too are like... Um yah...that's what a sub tastes like. Way to not do sumthin original with it or anything. But their burgers my gawd. Their burgers. One in every 10 orders they f it up and it's too burnt or the meat is surely not as fresh as it coulda been or sumthin...but mostly it's always the most spot on perfect charcoal-cooked juicy tasty tender burger you've had anywhere... nay...the BEST burger you've had anywhere! Really not impressed with the quality of ingredients they use on their pizza - I paid 35$ for a pizza that looked very generic nothing wow or fresh about it - The asparagus seemed from a can all dead and soggy when they should have had some crunchiness on. I've had had better pizza at those 2-1 pizzerias I've given 2 chances to this place that supposedly is amazing but frankly if you expectations are high you will be highly disappointed with a frustration of wasting money on bad quality food- read more

If you live in the Verdun area you have most likely heard of or tried something from Woodland's Pizza. With the restaurant in the same location since they opened in 1960, not much has changed in terms of its menu over the years. This is the place you go for one of the best Pizza options in Montreal. From the quality of ingredients to the quantity of each topping they put on their pizza, there's no going wrong with Woodland's being a go-to option for pizza delivery or pickup. The pizza is cooked in a steamed method with the pepperoni and veggies being put underneath the cheese while bacon and onions will still find themselves on top to get the necessary crisp for that proper enjoyment. Overall, the food options from Woodland Pizza will meet the requirements of even the pickiest of eaters or cravings. The subs are hefty with lots of meat and cheese and always stuffed into a nicely toasted submarine bun. The subs are topped with fresh lettuce and slices of tomato with just the right sprinkle of oregano to add that extra oomph to your bite. Looking for something less filling? One of my number one recommendations from this restaurant is the grilled chicken caesar salad. The chicken breast is marinated to perfection and then cooked over a coal grill for the right taste of char and grill marks for that extra visual appeal. If you're wondering after all the great things I just mentioned above, why we're sitting at 4 stars, I'll tell you why. Within the last couple of years, Woodland Pizza underwent some extensive renovations to their kitchen area but more importantly, their dining area of the restaurant. The kitchen and pick up area has been reconfigured which caused a reduction of seating in the dining area. The restaurant now resembles a pickup or delivery pizza place as they have seating for maybe 20 to 30 people at best in their main dining area. If you're familiar with Woodland Pizza, you'll know that their longstanding setup had much more room for customers to come in and enjoy some great food. If you live in the area, my recommendation is to either call ahead for seating availability or pickup order or relax at home and utilize their delivery option which is delivered quickly and the food is always hot and fresh! read more

Woodland pizza is montreals best pizza period!!!the pizza is done with perfection and this allegation it's cheap is absolutely BS.everything that is made is made with love !!! I recommend giving the cheeseburger with bacon a try!!! Wow!!! On woodlands worst days they would get a 4 and a half and that's due to maybe them Being so busy that they forgot a minor detail!!! I know the owner has invested a lot of money in renovating the place from A to Z and the ambiance in a warm grey is very eye pleasing. The food? Not what we expected. The service was excellent, polite and friendly. My friend had a Spaghetti Gratiné and I opted for the Smoke Meat Platter. It's the first time we've seen a spaghetti swimming in a tomato paste, that's right, tomato paste. Half the meal stayed on the plate (uneatable) and I left all the fries on my plate (I don't like frozen fries) and the smoke meat sandwich was disappointing also. I would call it a red colored beef sandwich and not a smoked one. I guess one must go to Rubens or Shwartz to get the real 'smoked meat' sandwich. Just ordered 2 club sandwiches for pickup, easy and hassle free ordering, the guy on the phone very polite - when I asked if I could substitute onion rings for fries he said "of course"! Woodlands is the best pizza place in the area. When I moved to Ontario, I would make a special trip to verdun when I was in town visiting. Now that they're closed for renovations, I go to their location in chateauguay. I crave the pepperoni they use on their pizzas. Absolutely the best pizza and poutines around. read more

This family run restaurant has stood the test of time, being around since 1960. Any restaurant that has been around this long means they are doing something good. No cookie cutter pizza and toppings measured in a bag here!!! Pizza done the right way, hand stretched into an imperfect circle and toppings added by hand and eye. Cooked in one pizza oven and finished in another for the right golden cheesyness and crust. The other items on the menu are good too, but the pizza is the highlight. Can't go wrong here. read more

I'm not prone to over-emphasis, but I firmly believe that my dinner at Woodland restaurant was the worst dining experience I've ever had. It started when the server took our orders. She had an attitude, just in her movements and the way she spoke - there was no smile on her face, she didn't ask how our day was or give us any greeting. She walked up and said, verbatim, "what do you want?" I chose to ignore the attitude, and we placed our orders - a caesar salad and sauteed mushrooms for me, tortellini and a Shirley Temple for him with a side of garlic bread to share. They brought out the salad with bacon - I don't eat meat, my fault, I should have asked. However to describe the server's attitude as indignant would be an understatement. She started telling me about all the hassle it caused her to bring it back, and how I should know better than to assume it didn't have bacon, and couldn't I just pick it off? I've been in the industry for a few years and know that it doesn't matter - the customer is always right, she shouldn't have picked the fight. The food was underwhelming. I was vomiting in the bathroom from my sauteed mushrooms which were not just poorly cooked but were clearly no longer fresh. The salad was bland, along with my boyfriend's meat sauce. When the server came back to check on how our food was tasting we were open with her. We told her that everything but the garlic bread was pretty awful. And then she walked away. She didn't ask how she could fix the problem (as any good server should have) nor did she sympathize or ask us to explain what was wrong. She didn't even acknowledge us. She just walked off to the next table without words nor utterances. When I eventually managed to call her back after what was literally five or ten minutes of her ignoring me I informed her that because the food left me throwing up in the bathroom I would like my meal to be taken off the bill. And that's where she lost it. "What? Oh no no, I can't do that." She turned away to leave again. "Excuse me," I said, "It's made me sick." She looked at me like I was stupid "Well I can't just TAKE IT OFF, oh no, of course not. If you're not happy with your meal I can grab the manager or call the police." I can't invent that. She threatened to CALL THE POLICE because we were unhappy with the food. I asked to speak to the manager and she said she'd grab him in a few minutes as he was busy. We spent about twenty or twenty five minutes (my boyfriend checked his watch!) waiting for him while I was huddled into my booth, trying to make my stomachache go away. Eventually she just dropped off the bill (without a word, of course) and left. Naturally, we didn't tip. When she returned she saw the bill and counted out the bills and coins we'd left for her. "Wow, thanks," she said, sarcastically "don't feel like you have to come back here again." I'm not joking. She actually said that. To their credit, our experience seemed to be an uncommon one. I wanted to like this place--it's a locally owned, independent business and from the website's pictures, the pizza looked decent. However... The sauce was watery and bland, the cheese tasted processed and too chewy, and the crust was inconsistent--too soft and soggy in the middle and the top was cracker dry and hard (not crispy, crunchy). This place is five minutes down the street from my place so I dropped by for a ham & pineapple pizza. They use delicious slices of ham instead the tiny cubes you usually see. Service was really friendly and quick, will definitely revisit. Would be nice to see more local brews on tap but that's a minor complaint. A solid family restaurant. read more

Grew up on their Pizza. It's in my view one of THE BEST. Their cheese mix on pizza is by far the most delicious I've ever eaten. I've also had their subs... incredible but make sure salad dressing on the side but pepperoni and sub is outstanding! Clubs and the rest of the menu is simply amazing. Just ate my first "all-dressed" pizza from Woodland. As I was eating the third slice, I was wondering whether a pepperoni pizza had been delivered by mistake. I was quite disappointed as there were hardly any vegetables. I had to look for the few thinly sliced mushrooms and the barely there small pepper pieces. Also, the crust was quite soggy. I hardly ever find a good chopped egg sandwich anywhere.....but Woodland has the best and this is what I always eat here (2 chopped egg sandwiches). They are very reasonably priced at $3.95 (Tried one at Chez Nick priced over $6 and it was awful)....and for an extra buck they really load it up....an inch thick of creamy chopped egg filling. So I placed a very simple order for delivery over the phone tonight. My order, phone number, and address we confirmed 2-3 times over the phone. We waited for our order for over an hour and my girlfriend called back to see what the status was. The person was very rude to her. I called back with the intention of giving the benefit of the doubt and I was told that apparently the driver had called me 7 times and gave up. Then they told me that their drivers have gone home and there is nothing they would do. I had not received a single phone call what-so-ever. I told the person that and he proceeded to contradict me implying that I'm a liar. I told him to repeat the number that was called and he gave me a completely different number and told me that the driver had confirmed with me several times that that was my number. Then he told me that he went to a completely different address that I provided on file. Then he followed up assuring me that they're closed and there's nothing they're going to do. I received no apology what so ever. I was rudely told that they're not going to do anything about this. I was spoken down to and insulted. They really seem to have no problems at all with loosing customers and their customer service is atrocious. This is an incredibly unprofessional establishment in my opinion. This is not the first time I've had experiences like this (every so often when I would place an order, they would just outright refuse to deliver to my place because of reasons like "traffic" or "construction"...there's been times they just didn't take our order properly and hung up before we were finished and when we'd call back to clarify and were given attitude, just silliness like that). The food isn't good enough to warrant not counting on your food arriving because they feel like not delivering but at least they used to tell me if they felt like delivering to me so I had the opportunity to order somewhere else. On top of all this, they recently raised their prices. All that was really necessary was an apology. My girlfriend and I weren't rude at all when we called back until I was spoken to in the manner I was solely for following up on an order I had placed like anyone else would have. I really don't know why these people have a problem with doing their jobs properly but it's the last time they enjoy the benefits of my patronage. I've also heard from other people who live near this restaurant that when attractive women walk by their windows, they do things like tap on the glass to get their attention and generally make them feel uncomfortable - kind of like cat calling. I've never personally seen this but then again - I'm a male. Anyways, I'm obviously offended enough to write a negative review of several paragraphs. There's a ton of pizza-poutine-sub type restos in the Verdun area. Save your money and order from somewhere where they will actually deliver to you consistently, and will admit they were wrong and apologize when they've made a mistake.
