On the second to last night in Paris, I started to crave greasy American food. Knowing we would be…read moreback in the states in a couple days I really tried to avoid giving into the craving. Once I realized how little red meat I had eaten on the trip, we went in search of a burger.
Right near where we were staying, and a relatively touristy area, 2 bis cafe was the first thing we saw that had burgers.
As with most every place in Europe it seems, we walked up and sat down on our own at an open table. Someone greeted us pretty promptly and took our drink order. When she returned, we were ready with our food order as well.
One thing I liked was the "special" they have, for lack of a better term. For a super reasonable price, you can get a burger and a dessert/appetizer or the beer of the day for one extra euro. The burger also comes with some fries- you seriously can't go wrong.
Now I was starving, but thought the beer sounded like a better idea. That day, it was a blonde. Not a ton of flavor, but satisfying when all I wanted was something to sip on throughout the meal.
I got the burger with feta cheese on it, one of my favorite cheeses although I can't say I normally have it on a burger. It came out with a CRAZY thick slice (more like block) of feta on top. This was more than amazing.
The fries that came with the burger could have been an entire meal on their own. They were cut thick and very potato-y, which made me happy to realize they were hardly salted. They came with what I assume was a housemate ketchup that I didn't try and some sort of aioli I think that I thought was delicious.
Now I'm not sure how burgers in Europe are usually cooked, but this one was near perfect for me. I love a juicy red burger and this one was more on the medium side, but still juicy and full of flavor.
The burger and fries were more than enough so if that's the route you're going, definitely get the beer rather than a dessert or appetizer. You'll have plenty of food, I promise.
Overall, great meal for a good price. Although I'm sure the rest of the menu is not the same way, the burger and fries were a wonderful American meal. If that's the type of meal you're craving, this is for sure your place.
