Not sure how long this place has been around, but it's in a very clandestine location, so I hope it survives, at least by virtue of its authenticity.
As an American, how can I speak of the authenticity of Mexican cuisine? Well, I'm from San Diego and lived 15 minutes from the border of Mexico. Mexican food is San Diegan food. And I've spent a lot of time on the other side of the frontier. Therefore, I can say that, as surmised, the food is authentic. The execution, however wasn't all there - see pics. Beef Tacos weren't grilled carne asada but shredded beef that wasn't particularly moist... and that's it. I didn't have to ask, "where's the beef?", but I did have to ask, "where's everything else?"! They brought a small dish with diced onion and cilantro and another with a very mild green salsa, which I certainly loaded into the tacos, but I was missing the salsa fresca (pico de gallo) and some guac.
The taquitos on the other hand were quite good, with crema and crumbled dry white cheese - similar to Cotija.
They also had a nice selection of aguas frescas - cold tea and sweet fruit drinks + horchata, the latter being muy rica!
They also have all of the champion Mexican brews (negra modelo, modelo especial, bohemia...).
Very reasonable prices. Very friendly service. Unfortunately, the location is a little removed.
