First a disclaimer, I never made it inside the restaurant but stayed out on the patio because the…read moreweather was simply fabulous that night. Looked like everyone had the same idea. The patio overlooks the Tiergaertner Tor Platz and it was crowded like a beehive tonight. The huge plaza tree was lit up and thousands of folks enjoying their night on the patios of the surrounding restaurants, on the plaza benches, or even seated on the ground. Great ambiance all together. The staff was very attentive and we didn't seem to have an assigned server as any of them passing by checked to see if we needed anything. The menu here changes often, but also has a few staples and some innovative takes on our Franconian dishes. So we discovered Pretzel pizza... I was suspicious at first, reading the list of ingredients, but threw caution in the wind and went for the Franconian version (my friend opted for the Vegetarian). It really did sound horrible... laugen dough (which is what pretzels are made of), Schmarrn (related to sourcream, or cream cheese, but not quite the same), local brats, kraut, cheese and tomatoes. I was prepared for a nightmare... but it ended up being delicious. The pizzas were served with a mini salad topping the middle of it. The dough was nice and thin and had that typical nice chewy crust all around. The ingredients worked surprisingly well together, but could have done without the tomatoes. Visually they were a nice pop of colors, but tastewise they had no business on the Franconian Pretzel pizza. I didn't try the vegetarian version, but my friend, who is a tiny person, ate the entire thing, whereas I could only finish half of mine. So I would say she enjoyed it. I had the pana cotta with blueberry compote and was delighted to see the compote made from the small blueberries I grew up with instead of these huge overbred tasteless blueberries so common nowadays. Kudos to this place. Check it out if you are ever in the area.

Very unique cultural dining experiences exactly what we are looking for the restaurant in Germany…read more We shared the table with other guests because we did not have a reservation (fun experience and nice chat with local people) The owner and services are very friendly and welcoming to us. Each main dish comes with house salad on the side. You can tell that this restaurant is for local family gathering. They are famous for their pork shoulder dish. We ordered their homemade soups (Horseradish creamy soup and garlic & chive soup - very creative recipe only found at this place :) also ordered spaetzle (Germany egg noodles) with deep fried onions on the top is very interesting dish (one of food must try when visiting Germany. Overall the food and dinning experience was memorable!!!!

Luckily I had 6 days left on my trip and was able to reserve a spot the last evening. It will be a 3-4 hour event and meal costs $36.90 per person for the 7 course meal. Drinks not included (with the exception of the horn of mead). Also, you eat with your hands, for that extra medieval feel. We arrived and there was not host so we were a bit confused. We eventually found someone and they directed us to our table. They had really great drink selections. The knights feast was amazing. I don't even know where to start, but I'd say skip the bread because the stuff that follows is out of this world!! They serve radish salad, jellied meat (this sounds and looks gross... but was really surprisingly delicious!), soup, bacon wrapped quail (so good... it just fell off the bone), pork leg & ribs (the skin was perfectly crunchy and those ribs were to die for), mixed salad, potatoes, stuffed apple pastry, and a cheese plate. Throughout the dinner there was entertainment and singing. We don't speak German but didn't make a difference, we had a great time and tried to play along.

I had the mushroom soup and sauerbraten with bread dumpling. It was both good. Service was good by…read morean English speaking waiter. Ambience was very nice in a old Austrian dining room. Overall very good.
