The staff was a bit taken aback that I requested dinner at 5:02 (obvious giveaway I was American) when they had just opened at 5 but seated me quickly. I ordered the Bufala and Fusilli for dinner and both were delicious. Finished off with tiramisu which was average. Restaurant was dimly lit but still able to see the menu. Italian music was playing throughout dinner and I honestly felt like I was back in Italy when I studied abroad. I walked a bit out of the way to try Luciano Trattoria and I was not disappointed!

The menu isn't very big but it's quality over quantity, we started off with a few charcuterie platters that came with cheese, salami, proshutto, stuffed peppers, olives and other antipasti. Very nice portion and unique platting. Then we each ordered different dishes like penne with rose sauce and mushrooms and sausage. Very good, a seafood fettuccini and a few orders of oso buco and veal scalopini. All very delicious and generous portions. Then the deserts came to the table, cannolis, tiramisu and some dulce de leche cakes. The tiramisu was my favourite. I suggest everyone give this tiny Italian restaurant a chance. You won't be disappointed.

We had the caprese salad which was tasty and fresh but definitely not what I expected (cherry tomatoes, croutons, basil, mozzarella pieces mixed together). Trebbiano had excellent reviews on TripAdvisor so we decided to give it a whirl. Making a…read morereservation was simple and the person on the line spoke English which was a help. When we arrived we were met by Bruno who was extremely effusive and gregarious as he led us to our seats. We had no idea what he was saying but the other patrons nodded and smiled and we simply hoped he wasn't calling us names behind our backs. His charm was infectious and we couldn't help but smile with him. The wine list was lacking in depth and in any wines that had true character but I understand the Canadian palette to be expectant of wines that are fruity and flowery. I prefer wines with a bit more grit and dirt...the closest of which was a Gabbiano Chianti Classico Reserva...while there were some Puglian and Sardinian wines the majority were overly fruit forward. Because I was having a sausage appetizer I selected a glass of the Ruffino Orvietto and we had a perfectly acceptable d'Abruzzo with our main course as it went with nearly everything and was harmless. My sausage came slightly overcooked but still delicious on a bed of lightly dressed arugula. The light and fresh Orvietto cut the salt and fat of the sausage perfectly. All of our mains (all primi's) were well executed but one in our party thought the risotto was a bit too large of a portion. My Carbonara was deliciously salty and creamy. Dessert was taken to a whole new level with a caramel cheesecake covered in bacon. Yes bacon. Simply awesome. And when completed with a simple Sambucca the meal was a rousing success. When on the South shore of Montreal be sure to seek out Trebbiano.

The restaurant was nearly full when we arrived and had a cozy vibe. The food was great. They provided two loaves of fresh bread with butter and an Italian hot sauce that was exceptional. The server was attentive and kind and did a wonderful job serving our table, which was the biggest group there that evening. First recommended to me by a friend of a friend (you know how that works, it's never what you…read moreexpect) Trattoria Il Ritrovo is at once the small lunch spot for a coffee and panini, quiet location for dinner with a couple of friends or family when you just want decent homestyle Italian, and will do larger parties on request. The décor is unimpressive, utilitarian, and you won't care about that anymore when your food arrives. Well-portioned plates, decent presentations, and the slightly warm feeling that someone's nonna is hiding in the kitchen doorway checking to see if you like the food and making sure you have enough to eat. Photos to follow soon :-)

Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on a relatively peaceful road across the St. Lawrence river outside of downtown is this place. There's a tiny little parking lot on the side of the building, but not someplace where you can park more than I'd say, 5 cars at a weird angle. Good luck getting back out into the street safely. There is a covered patio so that you can dine in the beautiful weather of the summer months. The restaurant seems very modern and straightforward. It has a real "pizzareia feel" to it which was quite comfortable. Service: Kim took excellent care of us. We wanted for nothing, she was very attentive and made our experience a good one. Food: They had their Buffalo Chicken Piazzetta Rolls on special for the day so I HAD to try those and they were pretty good! They consisted of grilled chicken, green onions, red onions and a few other ingredients. It was s relatively smaller portion, but it was for lunch so that make sense. Value: All prices are in $CAD. My lunch was $20.00. It seemed a bit pricey, but that's okay. In conclusion I did enjoy this place and I'd be willing to check out other parts of the menu the next time I'm in town.
