Parkhotel is a lovely place to stay on the mainland (about a 30 min walk to the island, or you can…read moretake the bus or rent a bike). The staff is extremely friendly and caring. They greeted us warmly, and it honestly felt like I was staying at a family member's home. Every morning for breakfast they'd ask if I wanted a boiled egg. The breakfast was the best part of the stay - an assortment of bread, meats, cheese, cereal, yogurt, fruit, and pastries! The breakfast seating area is lovely - both indoor and outdoor seats available. The lobby itself is small. They offer complimentary apples at the front desk, and you can buy drinks in the fridge. My room was cozy and much larger than expected. There's a massive closet with plenty of storage space and hangers. The bathroom has a hair dryer. If you don't want your room cleaned on a certain day, you can leave a sign on your door and they won't come in. The bed - if I remember correctly - was two twin mattresses right next to each other. There's a desk, two bedside tables, and a tv. The tv of course only has German channels, my favorite being the children's program Bernd das Brot - try to find it at night, it's entertaining. My room had a patio, which was very nice. If you're checking in late, be sure to notify them in advance as the front desk isn't manned at all hours. Also, if you need a taxi, definitely reserve it a few days in advance. The front desk can help you call, but if you try to call for immediate pick up your odds are not good. Also, on Sundays most everything is closed, but there is a supermarket about 15 min walk from the hotel open on other days. IMPORTANT NOTE: bugs might enter!! The way to prevent this is to be sure that either a) your window/door to the outside is closed or b) if it's too hot and you need it open at night like me, make sure the thin white curtain covers the entire door and then use the other black out curtain on top of that. I accidentally left this open for just an hour at night with the lights on in my room and soon noticed gnats and moths in the room. You don't want this, so be sure to cover it completely and then it works. It would be nice if the windows/doors had screens to really keep out the bugs. The room gets hot in the summer without the window open (no A/C) but I loved the comforter - it was lightweight and kept me very cool. The nights get cool. Overall I really enjoyed my stay at Parkhotel and I would love to stay again if I ever go back to Lindau! Danke schön!!

Finding a restaurant with a view is surprisingly difficult if you are a first time tourist to the…read morearea, but we were very lucky. The view at Guggeien is incredible! Sunset is worth the visit, even just for a drink. Our dinner here was a mix of good and bad. First, the bad... A couple days in Switzerland and we've yet to meet anyone rude or indifferent to us (as Americans) until this dinner. The staff was a bit standoff-ish with us. The staff did their jobs, but our feeling was that it was just business for them. The temperature was too warm in the dinning area; also got loud at times. The pricing was very high for the type of food and the venue. And as a slight annoyance the table was wobbly. Now the good parts... The view was stunning. Parking was easy. The wine and food were very good. I had the Cordon Bleu and my wife had Züri Geschnetzeltes. The wine (Côtes-du-Rhône) was terrific! We did enjoy the evening. Not sure I would recommend Guggeien for a group larger than four, and then only for a special occasion.
