The room is spacious and comfortable. The hotel is centrally located. Matjaz (Matthias) has been incredibly helpful from the moment we entered the hotel looking for parking. He has helped us find two great walking trails, directed us to restaurants, bakeries and places to have drinks and has been extremely friendly. What a great person to have at the front desk- one of the nicest, friendliest, helpful people we have met in our 21 different visits to Europe! ( my wife just informed me he is the 7 th generation innkeeper). We will be recommending this hotel to our friends and son that live in Zurich.

The staff is wonderful and will help you with any questions you may have. We were lucky enough to see the cows walk by for their annual trek from their mountain pastures to their winter homes in the valley.

Strolling through the town of Appenzell, my friend suggested we stop for a drink. Sure it was…read morebefore noon, but I was on vacation. Plus, this was a drink native to the foothills of Säntis. Hotel Säntis had a large outdoor patio area with table service. Many folks around were enjoying brunch. My friend ordered us each a glass of Appenzeller. I was told it was a strong, herbal beer... which arrived in a tall shot glass. In comparison to American beer...whew! If I wasn't awake by noon, the Appenzeller definitely gave me a jolt! It is more what I would consider Bitters rather than beer. Nonetheless, I enjoyed sipping the strong drink in the open air, just below Säntis.
