Excellent roadside eatery. Many kinds of poutine, good burgers, solid milk shakes. Amazing traditional desserts.

The staff are very friendly and remember the orders by heart even when the restaurant is full of customers. The taste is always beyond expectations! We recommend the chicken bacon wrap with cajun sauce (filled with cheese curds!!!) and the poutines of course. It's a treat for the taste buds and the belly. We will definitely go back!

Imagine you're making home fries at home and there's those rounded end pieces of potato that aren't quite the A grade cut potato for a french fry. It doesn't quite fry up right and we unconsciously push that rejected fry to the edge and eat around it. Now imagine almost all the fries are from that reject pile. Quite unappetizing. The poutine was assembled in a peculiar fashion of B-Grade-Reject fries, drizzle of poutine sauce and chopped up curds piled on top. When assembled this way, your poutine of disappointment does not melt the cheese curd. Great steamy hotdog though. I think I'll make spaghetti next week and enjoy carbs without disappointment.

We decided to come after a long drive since it was Halloween. When we walked in, the staff were dressed up, which was super cute. They even offered us candy I took a KitKat and my boyfriend grabbed a Coffee Crisp, lol. There was an older couple nearby having fish and chips, and it smelled amazing. We decided to go classic: a small poutine, hot dog, and hamburger with a drink. Our total came to around $35-$38, which might sound a bit high but honestly, I'm used to those prices and it was totally worth it. I loved how fresh their cheese was SQUEAKYYYY I'm pretty sure it comes straight from a local farm. The fries were perfectly crispy, the coleslaw was finely shredded, and the hot dog had that soft, fluffy bun that's just right. The hamburger had that smashed-style feel thin, juicy, with just mustard, onions, and cabbage instead of a pile of toppings. We'd 100% come back whenever we're in the area and definitely recommend checking it out. I was in Montreal for a day to walk 100,000 steps, and 1 of the 4 food requirements I had for…read moremyself was poutine. I'd never had the French Canadian heart-attack-on-a-plate, and was a little nervous as it just looks like it has A LOT going on. I sludged into La Banquise dead sober at 4:11am, as this is a legendary spot that is open 24 hours. I sat down in a bustling no frills atmosphere and remembered my deep appreciation for a 24-hour diner. You see people for who they really are this early in the morning. A couple in front of me was in a heated argument about what "being exclusive" really meant, while two separate groups of 4 to my right were feeling no pain and enjoying a poutine night cap. There I was, sipping on my black coffee mentally prepping myself for the 45 mile (72 km) day I had in front of me. The dichotomy of life. I asked the server what the most popular item was, and he said La Scooby. This monstrosity consisted of fresh cut fries, cheese, gravy, ground beef, bacon, onions, fried pickles, and caesar dressing garlic sauce. I got the small ($12.40 usd), but this thing was a TANK. It was bigger than my head and I have a HUGE head. The large must be a family style portion or somethin. Upon first bite, it was damn good. I completely see the poutine appeal. Is it an ideal meal dead sober at 4:11am? No, absolutely not, but this is an S-tier hangover food. Also, if there is ever a day when I need some extra calories, it's on a 100k step day. All the staff was so welcoming, and surprisingly chipper this early in the morning. SHOUTOUT TO LA BANQUISE! THANK YOU FOR FUELING THE JOURNEY! IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo

Not accessible. I had a very hard time moving around the restaurant with my crutches, especially…read morewith the stairs. I took my niece from New York City here because La Banquise is supposed to be the "must try" poutine spot in Montreal. We had a great night overall: soccer game, drinks at Mellon Brasserie (none of us were drunk; my wife was 100% sober). Everything was fun and chill. But La Banquise completely ruined the end of that trip, and I'm not okay with letting this go. We paid for the food and service. But it doesn't matter if you pay $1 or $100: at the end of the day, we were customers, and we deserved to be treated with respect. We waited for our Uber outside. It was cold, and I'm on crutches, so my injuries hurt badly in the cold. After waiting outside for a long time with the Uber not showing up, we went back inside to wait near the door, in the corner, not blocking anyone. The staff at the door immediately came in and started rudely and aggressively kicking us out. He refused to speak English with me after I clearly said, "I don't speak French, so talk to me in English." He kept talking French and was rude to my wife, my niece, and me. He told the waitress in French that we were "blocking the way," which was 100% false. (My wife speaks French) We were just standing near the entrance, waiting for a few minutes, trying to get out of the cold. When I went to the cashier and explained, "This guy is kicking me out. I just paid for my meal. But it doesn't matter if you pay $1 or $100: you're still a customer, and you shouldn't be kicked out and treated like trash just because you're waiting for your Uber on crutches. I'm on crutches, it's cold, and my Uber isn't here yet," they called a waitress who also started telling us to leave instead of helping. She didn't try to find a solution; she just said, "No, no, leave, leave." This is not just bad service. This is disgusting, disrespectful treatment of a paying customer with a mobility issue. My niece, who had a blast all night, ended the trip saying, "What the f....? You bring me here and they treat us like this?" She now has a bad impression of Montreal because of this place. My niece is from New York City, and she's also posting her own review. That review will be seen by people in New York and by tourists looking for recommendations. If you treat tourists like this, you're not just ruining one night, you're ruining the image of the whole city. Montreal is supposed to be a welcoming city for tourists and people looking to have fun and be treated with respect. La Banquise failed that completely. The food was okay, but the experience was terrible because of how we were treated. This is unacceptable. You should be ashamed of how you handled this.

I absolutely love cheese and fresh curds are my favorite. I'm so happy I discovered this chain as…read morethey are slowly expanding across Quebec. The concept is a mix of a Quebec casse-croute (fast food joint), cheese market and dairy bar in one. This St-Jerome location is relatively new, it's beautiful and spacious with a lot of seating options both inside and out. The restaurant features large garage style doors that open up fully to let in a lot of air, making it feel like you're sitting on a terrace. The menu has all kinds of poutines, paninis, burgers, spaghetti and pizza. They also sell fried curds, hot dogs, pogos and salads. They even serve breakfast and have an express, discounted lunch menu. Of course you'll find their classic cheese curds, and other types of cheeses. Although they are not made on site, they are delivered fresh everyday from Victoriaville. Food is ordered at a counter, cantine style, and depending on how busy it is, they can make you wait at your table and call your name once it's ready. I opted for a baby sized classic poutine and the "Inter Victoria" burger which has onion rings, bacon and cheese curds as special toppings. I love that they display all their containers so you can get an idea of the different sizes (baby to family sized formats!) and there is a filtered water fountain to refill your cups. The ice cream bar has your classic cones, sundaes, banana splits, milkshakes, frosties (mix of ice cream and slush) as well as dips you can add on your cone. I opted for their "Vic mixte" which is their equivalent of a Dairy Queen Blizzard or the Mcdonald's Mcflurry. I got the strawberry cheesecake filling and it was truly delicious. The only complaint was how small the cups were compared to an actual Blizzard. All in all, the food was delicious, the cheese is delicious and the ice cream is made of real, fresh cream- not your DQ or ice milk type so it's truly decadent. Plus they even have a drive thru so you can easily order to go!! Must visit, especially as a family, everything is simple and fresh, a real crowd pleaser.
