Lokal is the restaurant found in the in the Lokremise. You will also find a cinema, theatre, and Kino, and bar within the Loremise complex. This building is the largest surviving locomotive depot ring within Switzerland with coach house, bath house and water tower. This restaurant was recommended to me by my hotel, as I had a hard time finding a space open on Easter Sunday. I hear they also have a fantastic brunch offered every Sunday - reservations in advance.
Its amazing to see what they have done with this space. The restaurant has a trendy modern feel to it, and they have done a fantastic job of making a cold cement warehouse room feel warm and inviting. The restaurant is part of the PSG food group in St. Gallen, and cooks up some good food. The menus here can only be found in German, but our waiter was able to translate it for us. They do have the menu on their website, so you could translate it in advance. We chose some special dishes from their Easter menu, and both were tasty. The risotto was a bit runny though. I was impressed that they make all their bread fresh on-site. Which resulted in yummy bread being served in a basket before the meal. Typically I try to avoid the bread basket in order to save room space, but I couldn't resist this bread. The highlight of the evening though was the dessert my husband and I shared, the Gefroren. It is hard to explain, but it was like an Ice Cream cake with yummy chocolate drizzled on top which had hardened, and had a crunchy nougat layer in the middle. The service was good, and they even provided a water bowl for our dog. When comparing the price vs. the quality and experience though, out of the three dinners I had in St. Gallen over the Easter holidays, this was my third favourite.
