Wow! A local introduced me to this restaurant and apparently, Appenzell has a lot of restaurants! Who knew?! Hoher Hirschberg is really a gem among the hills of Appenzell. I can't compare it to the other restaurants in the area, but it's absolutely gorgeous up here.
If you're driving up in a single lane with traffic both ways, you're going the right way. Parking is available about a 5 minute walk below the restaurant. Depending on the direction of the wind, you will smell the stinky pig farm on your uphill walk.
The food and price is decent compare to prices out in Switzerland (approx 25 CHF/person).
The outdoor seating is quite popular and it's the place to be on sunny day! It's kid friendly with a play pen on the side and it really doesn't get any better than here; imagine, beautifully rolling green hills with a beer in your hand.
If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and get to Hoher Hirschberg! You won't regret it! No English menu available, but the menu is simple enough to navigate through.
