We had a really fun lunch here in our first afternoon in Provence. It is not cheap, and it is…read moresomewhat risky, as the menu for the day is pre-set, but the food is very good, and the portions are truly enormous -- almost to the point where you wish they'd give you less. The day we were there, the courses were:
- Salad
- Vegetables and cod
- Snails
- Cheese
- Choice of dessert
Each course probably could have been a meal on its own, and on top of all that, we were gorging on their incredible bread throughout the meal.
The salad was very good, with the one downside being that it had anchovies, which we're not fans of. We both thought the veggies and fish were fairly pedestrian -- good, but not something I'd be really excited to get again.
The snails, on the other hand, were surprisingly great. Neither of us eat snails, but we decided to be brave, and were rewarded for it. They were outstanding, as was the restaurant's home made mustard that we dipped them in.
The cheese, though, is what we'll really remember though. For this course, they brought out a giant tray of cheeses, and you take as much of each as you want. By this point in the meal, we were both incredibly stuffed, but it didn't matter -- we took a ton of cheese, and it was tremendous. We both felt pretty gross afterwards, but it was worth it.
That wasn't even the end, though -- after a little cool down period, we got dessert. My wife got chocolate ice cream, and I got the chocolate mousse, which was outstanding.
Altogether, this is an experience I would definitely recommend, as we really enjoyed it, but it's not without its warts. My biggest pieces of advice would be to be prepared to eat a LOT, and check the menu in advance.
