Board the boat and have a nice meal in the restaurant. Try some of the great local "Aquavit", like the Danish "Aalborg", the Swedish "Skåne" or the Norwegian "Linie". Traditionally, you should sing a song with each one, the locals will be happy to help if you invite them over. There is no need to disembark when the ferry reaches it's destination. Just remain seated and travel as many times forth and back as you want. Just remember to get off in the right country. The longer you have been on board, the harder it gets. A "tura" is once forth and back i.e. 2 trips, a "dubbeltura" is twice forth and back i.e. 4 trips and a 'trippeltura" is three times forth and back. Calculate approximately one hour for each tura. Note that you only need a one way ticket for each time you board the ship, so you can go as many times forth and back as you want on one ticket. A popular continuation of the evening is to get off the boat in Denmark and continue to one of many very cozy pubs and restaurants in Helsingør.

The food selection is ok, but not huge; yet I trust this ensures a decent quality and consistency. The waitresses were young but yet attentive to our needs, I doubt they have a huge knowledge of the wines, but not a problem as we ordered cokes ;-) The food was nicely arranged, served freshly cooked, and the taste was great. After having our coffee we sat there enjoying the evening and talking; I guess we sat there for an hour or so without any disturbance from the waitresses, I really liked not having the feeling of being "kicked out". Highly recommended.

The menu's little and consists of a lunch menu, and a dinner menu. The lunch menu consists of different salads and open faced sandwiches. The choices are a blend of typical danish specialities, along with some french "bistro"-influence. All choices of the menu can be recommended but I especially enjoy their Fried Fish-filet with Remoulade on top of Rye Bread. Really Good. Crispy on the outside, Soft and well prepared on the inside. At night, go for their Moules Frites (mussels with french fries) or go for a steak. When you choose to dine here, you're guaranteed a decent level of quality and service. My go-to place at the harbor. Prices are also pretty fair in my opinion (98 kr for my Fish Filet at Lunch).

The four courses are tiny portions of lovingly prepared delicacies. They were great but like many upscale Danish restaurants about 10 degrees too precious. The service was cheerful and enthusiastic, but spotty. The wait staff appeared to be local kids, not professional waiters. In fact one of may Danish friends who lives nearby told me her son had worked at Skipperhuset when he was in high school. Bur -- and this is a big but -- the location is one of the best in the world. The sun sets very late in the Danish summer, and it out on a spectacular show while we were eating. And we were with very dear Danish friends and it made for a spectacular evening. When the weather is nice, all of the tables are on the terrace bordering the lake. There is a small interior space which I imagine is used during inclement weather and during the winter. There is also a boat shed set up with a long single table which is used for fancy, lunches for special occasions. One note of caution. Our GPS kept sending us down a driveway in Fredensborg (near the castle) rather than down the road that goes down to the lake. And a culinary question for people knowledgeable about Danish cuisine. After a month in Denmark this past summer, it seems to me that there are four kinds of restaurants, no matter where you travel in the country. 1. Fast food 2. Foreign restaurants -- Italian, Chinese, Middle Eastern, etc. 3. Traditional Danish cuisine -- smørrebrød for lunch, flæskesteg or rødspætte for dinner - although it may be prepared better or worse depending on the restaurant. 4. Upscale Noma-like tasting menus, which are very expensive bits of exquisite food which has been fussed over by chefs trying to get a Michelin star. So here's the question: is there nothing between 3 and 4? Is there no bistro or brasserie where one can find excellent food in portions larger than the cupped Epalm of your hand? Without a four course tasting menu? That costs less than US$100 per person? If so, please let me know.

It's good, but if you're looking for the "classic" American chicken salad (or at least, the recipe my mother makes) with grapes and celery, and chicken, maybe some slivered almonds or pecan pieces, that's not what you'll get. Mine came on a nice bed of greens as well. It might be had a touch too much mayo, but nothing to really complaint about. They have a nice outdoor seating area, like many of the cafes here, so people watching is top notch. I didn't try my PIN-less credit card, but the waiter seemed optimistic it would work. In the end I deferred the restaurant's 4% foreign card fee (which would have been on top of my card's 3% foreign transaction fee) and paid cash.
