Sophisticated Cuisine in a Peaceful Setting…read more Le Clos Pierrepont is located 10 miles North of Draguignan, near the very scenic village of Chateaudouble. You must go walk the narrow streets of Chateaudouble before or after your meal at Le Clos! The restaurant is set in a nice older house recently renovated; there is also a hotel but I have not checked the rooms. The cuisine is very sophisticated yet quite approachable: the food is recognizable and the prices adequate. We sat outside on what has been the hottest day of the year so far - or at least it seemed to be. There was a pleasant breeze that made it comfortable. We had drinks first while we perused the menu. There is a good choice including 4 prix fixe menus ranging from 30 to 75 Euros. The wine list is extensive with selections from reasonable to expensive. Two of us chose the Menu Saveur at 42 Euros while the 3rd guest went with a single entrée, in that case the Ris de Veau. We were all offered a mise en bouche (an oyster with meat). The ris de veau was excellent (I know: I stole a piece from my wife's plate). For appetizers, the menu offered a tomatoe-based dish which was original and tasty or a Porcelet, also excellent. The main dishes were the fish (Maigre) served in filet in a delicious sauce and the duck in a blackcurrant reduction. Both were quite tasty and unique though the duck was a bit firm. The Menu Saveur included all three desserts - for each person. See photo. We had a bottle of Rose - Chateau des Sarrins which was very smooth. The service was good and professional, a bit on the slow side but not frustratingly so. Overall, it was probably the best meal we have had so far during this trip. We will be back.

When a chef from a competing village (not a competing restaurant with respect to experience)…read morerecommends a place, you gotta think it's gonna be good. Well, this place was frickin awesome. If by chance you are looking for home-style country looking in the Var region of Provence, this is the place to go! There is no menu. What they's cookin, it what you's eatin. They really don't sound like American southerners but they are country folk in those perched villages. Anyway, we barely understood what was on the menu but we looked around at what everyone else on the patio was eating and went along for the ride. Actually, we were going to say yes and eat there there no matter what anyway. By the way, the patio was one of the nicest we've been to in the region... shaded, clean, quiet, quaint. The setting, service and meal was awesome. The eats were 3-courses. It started with a nice salad that went on to breaded veal that was fried with a mountain of amazing green beans... hearty! The deserts were a large cream-filled pastry and a chocolate opera cake that was like tiramisu but with less alcohol and more chocolate. The accompanying bread was good too... not the tasteless and/or dry stuff you can occasionally get at some restaurants in Provence... France... Europe. In the end, the mean with a half-carafe (half bottle) of the house rosé wine was just 30€ I think... an amazingly inexpensive lunch that rocked our world. This trip in Provence was 3 weeks (last one was 5 weeks) and this restaurant has become my favorite dining experience over the 2 trips. Merci beaucoup.

Lunch in a medieval setting…read more Imagine having lunch (or dinner) in an authentic 11th century castle. In fact, you can also stay as the chateau is also a hotel with a few rooms. Note that the management has changed the focus of the restaurant away from gastronomic and is now offering a limited number of dishes. Obviously, the scenery has remained the same with the pretty village of Trigance below the fortress, close to the renowned Gorges du Verdon. Inside, everything reminds you that you are in an authentic castle (see photos). The place has an overall look of sophistication with carefully selected pieces of furniture. We had duck confit which was served with an assortment of local vegetables and served in large plates beautifully laid out. We also had a plate of southwest specialties generously served (Foie gras, magret fumé,terrine de canard, toast pain aux figues). For dessert we sampled a white chocolate mousse with shaved coconut and sheep milk yogurt with a mango coulis. All this with a bottle of Minuty rose. The service was attentive and timely. The prices are reasonable. By all means, spend the time to visit the castle and admire the views from the panoramic terrace.

I LOVE this place... in fact love is an understatement here. To be able to dine and stay in an 11th…read morecentury castle is already an unforgettable experience in itself, but the host was also instrumental in making this visit absolute perfection. Although the host spoke limited English, he was very cordial, genuine, and kind to us and even came in clutch giving us an adapter when we left ours at our last hotel. Also, ALWAYS opt for the dine-in service because not only is it hard to find places to eat around here, but it's worth it. Our dinner was gorgeous and full of fresh ingredients that made you feel both healthy and appreciative of the type of thought that gets put into crafting your dish. And out of all the places we've stayed and had breakfast at (including outside of France), Chateau de Trigance is #1. The breakfast has a basket of bread, your drink preference which they ask the night before (we got big coffees), fresh fruit and yogurt, natural honey made from the village, cheese + meats, etc. A testament to how meticulous this place is in delivering premium service is how they TOASTED all of the breads in your breakfast basket. I was already swooning over this place, but toasting my bread? You've won my heart, Chateau de Trigance, LOL.
