One of the worst dining experiences in my entire life. I have previously eaten in Michelin star restaurants so I am used to fine dining experiences. However I found upon arrival at L'Ambroisie the reception from an elderly lady with grey hair to be extremely frosty as she looked both myself and my fiancee up and down in a judgmental manner.
The decor I found to be pretentious, the atmosphere sterile, with a lack of background music for ambience, and the menu to be average.
We were eventually seated and we waited an hour and a half to receive any type of food. Before that, one of the waitresses came to our table with two tiny pieces of bread(no bigger than my index finger which I took a photo of on my camera phone as evidence) while others around us were served generous sized portions of bread to nibble on before our main course. I found this rather hilarious and the hilarity ensued when the waitress came to our table with a couple of small starters to nibble on which consisted of two spoons with what looked like and tasted like tuna and onion mixed with mayonnaise. It tasted rather bland and lacked any seasoning. This was accompanied by what I initially thought was two shot sized glasses filled with what I thought was Gazpacho(which i normally love). However upon tasting this it had an overpowering taste and smell of fish...not very nice.
The elderly lady who had shown us to our seat then came over after an hour and produced a wine list from which we purchased a half bottle of the house white wine for the pricely sum of 22 euro. The wine was very average considering I could have picked a nicer tasting bottle of wine from tesco for about £7 without all the pomp and ceremony. At no other time were we offered the chance to drink anything else whilst we waited on our main course.....not even a glass of water!
For our main course we ordered the lamb chops with seasonal vegetables which cost us 27 euro each. The main course arrived after an hour and a half. We were served 2 measly lamb chops which were cold and rather chewy, the green beans were also cold and over cooked and the butter beans were bland and lacked any seasoning. Not impressed considering I could have ate elsewhere and received better. The staff were heard muttering under their breaths about us being english(eventhough I am irish and my fiancee is scottish) so it certainly didn't add to the ambience.
We didnt stay to finish our main courses as we found the place to be not conducive to having a nice dining experience. The bill for 2 terrible main courses and a half bottle of wine of average quality cost me around 80 euro....AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!!!!!! read more
