MAORI - welcome drink at maori bar

Maori cooperated with letsdrool, a start-up in the event-szene. Maori offered it's first "Drool…read morePublic-Table" with a great event: Hawaiian Surprise Dinner It started off with a welcome drink at the Maori Bar. A strong Mai Tai served in this great looking cup , standing in front of a scary totem! While sipping the quaffable drink I engaged in conversation with the other guests, talking about past and future vacations - there's nothing that would fit the restaurants theme more, wouldn't you agree? I also met the owner of the Maori Stephan Bernet and had a quick chat with him. A great host, very welcoming and young at heart . Later more, as he was presenting and elaborating the food and accompanying wine - so stay tuned It was the first time I was in the restaurant Maori and I really enjoyed the bar area, a great start to into a promising food journey - Aloha! 1st course the first course of the surprise menu was a dish from new zealand: roasted sweet potato soup with onion, maple syrup and oregano. wow what a great start! I loved this one and usually am not big on soups , it was thick and creamy and the maple syrup added a little sweetness. I asked one of the guest and he confirmed it is authentic. 2nd course sushi combo - two of each flambéed salmon and tuna sushi - usually not a big fan of sushi which is heated / seared and so forth (except eel)- but this was nice for a change and it felt fresh. The presenation was also great! 3rd course beef and reef - this gotta be the coolest name for a dish I've had so far. so simple, just switch out one character, yet so mysterious. What's the reef all about? First of all you have the tender, medium cooked slices of beef paired with the best prawns there are, black Tiger! A match made in heaven! then to add an exotic hint an Asian pepper sauce was chosen to top off the food There's also something for architecture buffs: a jasmine rice pyramid with a pretty flower on top dessert hula pie - this was the highlight of the menu! The classic pie from the Duke's Waikiki. A dream come true : macadamia ice cream with hot chocolate sauce, crushed macadamia nuts and whipped cream! Kona beer tasting: kona beer tasting - after the dessert we went back to the bar where Stephan Bernet introduced us to Kona beer - It's being brewed in Kailua-Kona since 1994, which is located on the big island of Hawaii I chose the Fire Rock Pale Ale - kinda fits the background. Enjoying a piece of Hawaii thousands of miles away! I want to thank Stephan Bernet and his team for this memorable dinner course and evening! Also thanks to the drool team for creating this event! for more food experiences check out my instagram in my profile

It is the first time I leave a restaurant because of the service…read more The table we were seated was wobbly in the middle of the way, under a tent with another large group which was shouting. I could not hear my wife speaking and I was uncomfortable, so I asked one of the waiter passing by if we could sit somewhere else. He looked around and said no. My wife asked then if we could sit inside. He told us we could sit inside, but the service would be slower. We said it is fine, we are on a date and have plenty of time. We went inside and ask to the same waiter where we could sit. He told us we could sit anywhere we wanted. We sat and a few minutes later another waiter, which was the one who took our order came and started aggressing us. Stating we cannot move without saying anything. We apologised and explained that we ask the other waiter and told us it was fine. He kept coming back shouting at us. We tried to explain and did not really understand why he was so upset. If we were not allowed to stay inside, we would not mind going back to our seat. But, we actually did not have an opportunity to speak. Finally, since the night was gone for us. I asked him if we could cancel the meal. I would pay for our drinks which were already made and we would leave. He snobbed us and left. So I left the money with the drinks untouched on the table. We went to another restaurant and had a lovely evening, but we still wondered what happened there. If he had previously a bad time and was already upset. I am sorry for him. Not an excuse to insult your customers though. Btw, we spoke German with him the whole time. My wife's mother tongue is Swiss German, she was raised here, but she is black. I speak Hoch Deutsch fluently. He spoke broken English to my wife.. which I find racist.
