THE SCENE:
This quiet outdoor/indoor restaurant is very relaxing and peaceful on a sunny day! The outdoor wooden tables on a sandy floor remind me of sitting out back with my family in California, quietly enjoying a barbeque meal together. Similarly, on a Sunday afternoon the whole town of Darmstadt seems to have brought the family to relax and enjoy a meal together and when you're there, you feel like you're part of a bigger family!
THE FOOD:
I ordered a roast pork "Schweinebraten" that came with slow-roasted pork in a reduced champagne sauce that was incredibly delicious. The tender pork was PERFECTLY roasted and melted under the weight of my fork like butter under a hot knife. While it was very tender, it was a little dry but the hearty broth on top more than made up for it. The small serving of sweet potatoes and sauteed red cabbage complemented the meat well but the potatoes had little to no flavor although the beets had flavor enough for both! All in all, this 12 euro dish is perfect and plenty enough to be shared with two. I highly recommend getting a beer as well but I got the Apfelwein spritz which was refreshingly zingy for me and complemented the meal well.
Overall, this quiet restaurant is perfect for a date or family as you can enjoy the park then a meal and drink! If you're in Darmstadt, this is a must-visit but make sure to go here when you're winding down as it can be a great end to a great day! read more
