    The chef of the restaurant

The place seems a bit different from previously uploaded pictures, much darker and smaller. However, they serve one of the best Ethiopian cuisine I ever tried in the states, in South Korea and Paris! We were so lucky to find this place and are definitely coming back for more. The lady is a real chef!

    "Veggie combo" 17 euros!

Ok, so this place is adorable in terms of ambiance. It's TINY. I mean, you can barely move around at all or get in your seat. The staff was trying... but also super rude when my friend didn't want to order anything. The food was what truly made me give 3 stars. What was that?! I lived in Ethiopia for a year. I live in oakland where we have tons of Ethiopian food. What was this?? Ugh.... Per my photo: "Veggie combo" equivalent but don't expect any gomen (greens) and no substitutions lol so if you don't like kik Alicha (yellow plain lentils) you should just order something else since this dish is $17 euros!

One side is the vegetarian sampler and the other is the meat for my husband!

Yall, this place is BOMB. It is a hole in the wall sort of place - which is how you know the food is good. I think it is also family owned because the owners looked related - so that basically means everything will taste home cooked. ALSO they have vegetarian AND vegan options along with non veggie options if you are with non-veg friends. My husband and I were able to eat what we both want and were satisfied. I had the lentils and I think he had beef? You cannot go wrong with going to this place. The service is nice, the ambiance is also super cute and the food is amazing. So it wins on all levels!

When I was looking for vegetarian options in Paris, it was my lucky evening that I came across a place that had two things that I love - vegetarian-friendly options AND Ethiopian food! This is a tiny place - I counted about 18 seats within the restaurant (although I think they had downstairs seating as well). I got there relatively early and was seated immediately. I ordered the Ye Tsom (composition végétarienne variée) - it put a big smile on my face when they brought the platter out - I tucked in and enjoyed every morsel of the meal down to the last bit of injera. The portions were generous and food was what I clearly expected (good and good and good!). Every seat was filled by the end of my meal - it did get fairly cramped but the place still had a comfortable and festive vibe. I would highly recommend making a booking before arriving.

Such good food, so flavorful! The vegetarian mix was spicy and tasty. The crepe was yeasty and perfect. I loved the genuine ambiance, African music, statues and colorful artefacts everywhere and the ladies cooking in a very humble kitchen at the back. Just lovely!

Yum! An assortment of vegetarian dishes served on top of the Ethiopian spongy bread. This was a platter for 3 and it was super filling

Ethiopian food in Paris? Yes, please! This place is a gem and excellent for vegetarians! The staff are just lovely - super friendly and attentive. It's a refreshing change in Paris!! When you step into this little restaurant, you feel like you're in another world. For those who haven't had Ethiopian food, it is served on a giant platter on top of a spongy bread. You can eat with your hands, using the bread to scoop up the veggies/meat on top. The menu is well-explained and not intimidating, and if you have any questions, the staff is sure to help. The food was just exquisite - perfectly spiced and full of flavor. I also tried an Ethiopian beer, which paired well with my food. I have already been here a few times and can't wait to come back!

Godjo really sets the bar high for Ethiopian food. Came here on a Friday night with a friend for dinner around 7PM. Decided to order a round of their Ethiopian beers (which I highly, HIGHLY recommend), and was quickly followed up with our main courses (spicy chicken and lentils). Not too long after that, the waitress came out with a giant platter, FULL of not only our main dishes, but also side dishes! I have yet to eat at an Ethiopian place that does sides as well as Godjo (includes a hard boiled egg, some salad, and what looked like stewed collard greens). Needless to say, my friend and I both left Godjo feeling completely satisfied. TL;DR, if you are in Paris and you want some good Ethiopian, come to Godjo and don't skip out on the beer ;)

A recommendation from a tour I did, and now my recommendation too. Served in a large wicker bowl, the food filled Ethiopian tortilla is an culinary experience that should be experienced. Got the platter selection, mildly spiced for me, and wildly fun. No utensils, so you break off some of the tortilla on the side plate, and then fill it using your hands as utensils. This is a great night out, and the food is really good. The waitress was friendly, and explained everything too, which was a great help. Finished it off with a good espresso. Fitting ad Ethiopian is the birthplace of coffee.

I was looking for a place to take my vegetarian friends visiting from out of town when Godjo came to mind. I'd heard great reviews about the place from several American friends (some of whom frequent this restaurant each time they're in town). It was easy to reserve (did so via the link on Yelp!), and though on a tiny side street in the fifth, fairly easy to find. We were seated in the cave (which was preferable to the dining room upstairs, crammed with western tables and flooded with fluorescent lights), on traditional stools with round basket table. We weren't the only group dining downstairs, but it felt as though we were forgotten. It took 20 minutes to get a pitcher of water, and then 20 more minutes to get our food. One half of the platter was vegetarian for our visitors, and the other half was composed of meat dishes for my partner and myself (mine spicy, his not). As the French say, c'était un régal! The meat was tender, the sauces perfectly seasoned and spiced. We finished the entire platter after we were full--couldn't let even a smidgen of sauce stay on the plate.

Ethiopian in Paris? Yes! Our favorite Ethiopian restaurant is in Iceland, but Godjo is a close second. It's a tiny little spot - so I highly suggest making reservations! The homemade bread dipped in the chicken, lamb and lentil dishes is out of this world! If you like Ethiopian lentils, try the spicy version! The menu is in French only, so brush up ahead of time, or learn common phrases such as "What do you recommend?" Also, if you have a vegetarian with you, ask for their plate to be separate because the food is served family style. Finally, finish with a delightful Ethiopian coffee - you won't regret it!

The sampler platter for two. Although, be warned that the sampler platter for one looks nothing like this.

I have been to this place three times now. I love Ethiopian food and was excited to find this spot. However, I won't be back. My first experience was ok. However, on my second visit, we had a reservation for 8:30. We arrived on time but waited for over an hour and still weren't seated. Several parties that arrived after us were seated before us. We kept asking when we would be seated, and finally left after the third time that they told us that it would just be "15 more minutes." The food is decent but poor management and service all but ruined my dining experience there.

The cuisine is West African with Caribbean influences, and it's located in the 10th arrondissement. The restaurant has a lively, energetic atmosphere. While I wouldn't describe the staff as particularly warm, it's clearly a very busy place. One server seemed to be handling my entire section--he seated me, took my order, and kept things moving. I started with the cod fish fritters, which were delicious, especially paired with the sauce they were served with. For my main course, I ordered the Daurade royale entière marinée (braised whole fish), accompanied by fragrant rice, and added a side of plantains. It was exactly what I was looking for--well-seasoned and satisfying. Food was delivered by bussers who barely paused long enough to be thanked, but again, that seems to come with the territory of such a high-volume restaurant. If you're in Paris and want something beyond traditional French fare, Waly Fay is definitely worth a visit.

Our meals up to this point had been French heavy, and I don't want to use the word bland... but... We walked into the dimly lit industrial-chic interior, ready for our tastebuds to be stimulated again after a long day of seeing the sights and logging steps. We started with a bottle of red wine, that essentially replaced water on our trip, and ordered a small feast: soya skewers, alloco, cod fritters, 1/2 chicken with yassa sauce, jumbo shrimp creole, and the daurade royale (marinated sea bream). I normally highlight one dish as to keep these concise, but this entire meal genuinely blew us away. My girlfriend and I are still texting each other about it on the daily. The soya skewers were cooked perfectly medium rare, although I put way too much of that spicy sauce on my first one and it almost took me out. The alloco (plantains) had a perfectly crispy exterior with a soft and sweet interior, just like me. The cod fritters changed us, as they were actually our favorite thing we ordered. If you would have told me before the trip that the best chicken I had in Paris came from a West African restaurant, I would have laughed at you. But here we are. That Yassa sauce with it kicked a hole in the sky. That Jumbo Shrimp Creole was to DIE for, as these gargantuan shrimp came piping hot with this tangy creole sauce that was packed full of flavor. It also came with a HUGE side of white rice that was bangin. Some good white rice is so underappreciated. The daurade royale was a whole marinated seabream that had our taste buds dancing like a 1983 Michael Jackson. They were moonwalking everywhere. Everything in here was operating at a high level and this meal brought us back to homeostasis. It's wild that the 2 best meals I had in Paris were from a West African spot and a Japanese restaurant (Takara). I was so ignorant, as I had no idea Paris was such a melting pot for global cuisine, but that's why traveling is so great. You learn so much in such a short period of time.
