This restaurant within the Hotel Silberhorn has one of the best views I've ever seen. A large conservatory allows diners to gaze out and upwards at the immense mountains, while sweet, attentive service is given in the restaurant.
We were greeted by the hotel's proprietor and seated immediately, near the welcome fireplace (wood burning, no less!) with a view of the snowing outdoors.
A full bar is offered, my husband opted for a local beer (Humpen ;) )and I enjoyed a glass of prosecco.
This was followed by a bowl (size small was plenty!) of a rich tomato soup topped with cream, perfectly seasoned and much more flavorful than most tomato soups. (Would have been PERFECT with a grilled cheese sandwich made from local alpenzeller cheese and hearty brown bread.)
Husband had the soup of the day, a light vegetable blend, also rich in flavor and smooth texture.
My entree was a local classic with spectacular sauce and roesti (a Swiss grilled hashbrown potato) which was perfectly seasoned, bright yellow, and clearly made from fresh local produce. Husband greatly enjoyed his pork cordon bleau with ham. Free water was also served without needing to ask (a luxury usually reserved for American dining) and our Apricot sorbet schnapps Booze Sundae was possibly my favorite frozen dessert ever- the sorbet itself tasted like fresh ripe apricots, with large chunks of delicious fruit and a bracingly strong apricot schnapps within it.
We'll be back to dinner tonight, this place is delightful, and the family that runs the place is amazingly warm and friendly. read more
