This is the hands-down the best meal I had in France. Our AirBnB host said it was the only…read morerestaurant he would recommend in Strasbourg and the only one left that wasn't a tourist trap and still served traditional dishes cooked in traditional styles for the Alsace region. First of all, super easy to walk up and get a table as the place wasn't crowded at all (for a Tuesday night). The server was charming and very friendly with helping us navigate the menu and the region's specialties! We tried completely new dishes and they were amazing. The lawerknepfle with the mushroom sauce was my favorite. Crème brûlée was not too sweet and focused on quality of the ingredients. 10/10 a must if you visit Strasbourg.

Review is 3.5. Hubs loved it, I was under whelmed. Did think the decor was very Alsatian without…read morebeing kitschy. For starters, I had the very generous onion pie-sort of a cousin to quiche which was tasty but huge by starter standards. Hubs had Alsacienne salad ...local cheeses and sausages and greens. Again super generous for a starter. We both had the Dish of the day--GRUMBEEREFLEICH...apparently very Alsatian --grated veggies, local cheeses and ground beef ( not apparent in the mix) and then deep fried. Each plate had 3 large pieces. Just not much flavor, so a disappointment. Dessert was a profiterole which had potential but felt like it had been thrown together with some kind of very chewy sponge cake and grainy chocolate sauce. Overall, lots of potential but just didn't fulfill the experience I had hoped for.

We passed by this nice restaurant by coincidence, and spontaneously decided to include a…read morestar-experience to complete our holiday in the Alsace. The prices are comparable to the prices in Belgian *-restaurants. But the approach was quite different. Less 'chique'. Although the quality and taste of our five dishes and accompanying wines all ranged between good and excellent, nothing was absolutely extraordinary. It is worth noticing that our five course menu (in which the chef decides what you eat) mostly comprised simple and cheap products. This is ok if the coursesare extraordinary, but - as already mentioned - this was not the case. E.g. one of the two main dishes was an ordinary stew with common vegetables. Excellent taste but not what you would expect for the prices paid. On their signature dish, an egg in an egg, they use truffle of extremely poor quality (sense and smell do not indicati that it is truffle). We had two veggie courses, two fish courses and a dessert, apparently meat dishes were reserved for the other tables. In the five course menu you also receive four accompanying wines. The glasses they pour out are very small (+/- 7 cl). And after you have finished your wine, they take your glass away, even if your course is not finished. Maybe this is in accordance with French etiquette, but the experience was shocking for me. In all Belgian quality restaurants they do not take glasses away during the course and they refill wine glasses (certainly when they only start with half a glass) when you choose for accompanying wines. As the quality of the food and wine were - overall - very good, it is quite harsh to give 2*. But this was the first *-experience after which I was thinking that the price of 130 € pp was stongly exaggerated. 80 € would have been a more correct price taken into account the wines and quality of the ingredients. We left with the feeling that this restaurant is too much focused on maximizing their business profits.

Our waiter was very friendly and patient and helped us choose some great dishes, with which we were all pleased. My cousin got the tartare which was heavy but delicious. My duck on choucroute was also excellent (and only cost about 14-15 euros). I made a mental note of the name so that I could sing my praises here... and return next time I'm there! Highly recommended.
