Three words: Mediterranean, discreet, tasty!
If you're looking for a quiet restaurant with a suitably discreet atmosphere, good Mediterranean food and excellent service, then the Alden's restaurant Per Te is a safe bet. The acustics of the restaurant are astonishing, like you're being enveloped in a coat of silence when you enter. There's a lot of distance between tables, adding to the discrete atmosphere of the restaurant.
They serve these addictively delicious dishes full of olive and dried tomato tapinades that forced me and a friend to empty four bread baskets! The basis for the food is classical French cuisine, but there is a strong Mediterranean current running throughout almost every dish. The ravioli filled with lemon ricotta with caramellised trevisano is absolutely delicious. And their duck liver terrine is a sumptuous, melt-in-your-mouth dish that meets every expectation and doesn't break the bank (just CHF 36.-, right in the middle of Zurich).
The desserts were very good, highlights including a classic crema catalana served with a rather punchy tonka bean ice cream or spiced coffee mousse with a blueberry compotte.
The discreet atmosphere is enjoyed by celebrities like David Beckham, David Cameron and Prince William. Chef de cuisine Roland Höhmann has run the whole gamut of international luxury hospitality and gastronomy, but isn't the least bit impressed with himself. He's stayed very down-to-earth and shuns the limelight, focusing instead on his craft I like that!
