Honestly. My appointment was at 11 am. It is currently 12:26pm. I STILL HAVE NOT BEEN SEEN! This is absurd.

This is the worst medical office I have ever been forced to visit. They care absolutely nothing…read morefor their patients. They are disorganized, always behind, some staff are surly. The first doctor I saw, Masson, was late, but this was the first time so I did not know it was a chronic practice problem. He said to come back and see him in a year. He did not look at my medical records that were in the Baycare system which this office has access to, and so did not know that results from a CT scan in 2020 indicated there should be a follow up CT scan. I set an appt for a year out. Two weeks before my appt, this office called me and said the Dr was cancelling my appointment because he had something else to do. I set another appt, which was several months out, and again, the office called me and said the Dr was cancelling my appt because he had something else to do. So I said just schedule me with the PA or NP. So they did. First appt with NP was relatively on time, only 20 minutes late. The NP did look at the Baycare system records for the 2020 CT and said we need to do a follow up CT, I also brought up other information and he wanted to do a home sleep study. Later the CT scan the NP ordered showed there were some concerning issues with my lungs per the radiologist. At my follow up appointment, the NP was with the same patient before me for over an hour while I waited in a room. While I waited, some male patient was allowed to wander the halls outside my room and opened the door to my exam room twice, and started to come in once. Finally after being over an hour late, a medical assistant came in and said did you bring the CT scan results. I said no it's in the Baycare system which this office has access to. Then NP came in and said he had looked at the CT, which was a lie, he had not looked at the CT or he would have talked about what it revealed. He then heavily pushed getting a sleep apnea machine and tried to scare me about the supposed results of the home sleep study. I felt like there was a salesman greed there. He spent 4 minutes with me, after spending over an hour with the patient prior. He never once mentioned the CT results. When we left the room, that same other male patient wandering the halls was still wandering the halls and came after the NP because he wanted him for something. When I went to check-out, I was told the waiting room was filled with people waiting to check out. Meaning it would be about an hour to be able to check out. I ask the check out lady why is my time so unimportant? I have to get back to work. Going to this office requires a vacation day they are so incompetent and disorganized. So I walked out, having already paid my copay on arrival. Several weeks later, with no prior email or phone call, they sent me a package in the mail. They purposely only put two stamps on it, so when it arrived, the post office said I had to pay $5.46 postage. The thing is I have no idea what it was due to the atrocious communication from the office, so I refused it. I have already found a different pulmonologist and will be moving my records to them. If you value your health and your life do not go to Bay Area Chest Physicians. My experience was they could not care less about you, it's all about them and not about the patients at all. My opinion is they are just greedy money hungry doctors. They have practically a monopoly on pulmonologists in Clearwater FL. 11 doctors at this office with this kind of terrible terrible medical care. This has been going on for years, look at the Yelp review by Jennifer S on Apr 11, 2023.

Actually the second or third time I've been here but never noticed it on Yelp. Anyhoo: this is…read morewhere I was diagnosed with sleep apnea a few years back. They have their own sleep lab on the first story of this hidden two story building off of Belcher just north of NE Coachman. After all the formalities were observed with a rather extensive team of medical and office types here, I was prescribed the appropriate sleep equipment and so on. I don't like that I have to use the stuff, but since I must, I can't think of a better MD to deal with than Frank Averill. He's a bit eccentric but he is also a very good and well seasoned pulmonologist. He's assembled a good bunch of folks (and it is quite a big number in the team) to work here. As you can imagine, this practice is quite busy and thriving...I wouldn't expect you'd fare well here if you're in dire need of quick service though. As most specialists go, he books out well in advance. As is also the case with specialist types, forget about the clock when you finally DO get here. Pack a lunch or a snack instead! Nice office with a clean but homey look to it also. Sleep lab is also quite nice as I recall as well. One odd bit of information. The doctor's wife also has a big hand in this place and helps run the show. She is a devout Catholic and that is obvious in every nook and cranny of the office. Lots of religious statues, pictures and the like in the second floor office and downstairs in the lobby. Off to the right of the entrance downstairs is a full blown chapel as well...I must tell you that the formal name of the practice is St Francis Medical Institute. So the chapel and much of the "decor," for lack of a better word, is Franciscan. It really has no bearing on the level or kind of care that one should expect, of course. It's a simple observation for the sake of passing along information to the prospective patient reading this review... That said, Dr Averill is board certified in four different specialties according to the information gleaned from my visits here. Allergies, immunology, sleep disorders, pulmonology plus all the clinical research kinda makes this practice one stop shopping for many people who have allergenic afflictions, breathing battles or immunodeficiency issues of sundry sorts. I'm not 100% sure of why I don't give five stars but four isn't quite enough either. The office is on the second floor up a VERY steep set of stairs. There is a very slow elevator off to the right at least. That's where the half star comes into play. So here goes my standing gripe...I wonder when Yelp is finally gonna wise up and make it easier or at least POSSIBLE to award half stars?!!?

I was instructed to continue to take calcium for that low lab. I also continued vitamin d since it was trending up but still low. I was worried that I was going to have to take calcium for the rest of my life. But thankfully, my recently pth levels are normal. My vitamin d is finally in the normal range too. It isn't in the optimal normal range but it will get there. I just wanted to share that incase someone freaks out about pth being low after the procedure. So hopefully my labs will stabilize and continue to stay normal. Will update if anything changes. The scar is barely visible too. The incision was made at my natural fold. It healed nicely.
