Driving in
Rosy P.

As you drive in, you pass all the soccer fields to the left. Keep driving and you'll see that you drive in a small "loop" around the playgrounds and adjacent on one side to the pond. It's a one-way road on the loop as the driving path is narrow. I noticed a sign warning visitors to watch out for alligators and snakes as we drove along the loop. There were a few pavilions scattered out alongside the water filled with picnic tables and trash cans along the periphery. All the ducks (I saw some mallards amongst other species) would just walk around the park sticking near the water of course. There were so many of them and they had no fear of humans. I saw some people out with their fishing poles so I'm assuming people come here to fish also. I do recall seeing a sign warning people about not harming the water fowl in the area. There was a spot right when you start that small looping path that I think people use to as a fishing spot. I also saw some people out on the field playing with their drones. There is a running trail encompassing the pond with a deck over the water near one of the pavilions. I saw a good amount of people out running and walking, some with their dogs. It seems to be a nice setting for an enjoyable walk or run. The path isn't very wide although if need be I assume you can just walk/run on the grass alongside the concrete path. They have wooden picnic tables scattered along the walking trail that surrounds the pond. They also have trash cans at set points throughout so there's no reason to litter. The restrooms are located nearby in a wooden green painted fence covered building near the edge of the older children's playground area and across from a pavilion. I didn't have need of the facilities so cannot comment on its cleanliness. I imagine it's a typical park restroom. Near the toddler playground, there were two smaller pavilions. It's nice that as a parent you can sit in some shade while your child(ren) play. I noticed a toddler swing set here that held four baby swings. Off to the side of that we're the regular belt swings of which there were six. The bigger playground equipment looks multilevel bc of the small mounds they are built on using wood and plastic parts. It gives it a built-into-its-natural-surroundings look. Parking is in little sections along the loop. When you drive in and start to go around the loop, there is a parking lot to park in. There are also small areas of parking spaces set about throughout the while loop usually in front of or near the pavilions. It's a quiet, generic little rural park almost hidden away in the country. It's not a park I would be bringing my son to often, mainly because the alligator/snake warning signs scare me. I also just don't see it as all that great unless you're there for a nice leisurely walk/run. It doesn't seem to be a very busy park so I'm guessing it's not a very popular one. It looks old and kind of unkept but I think that's how it's supposed to look.

This is not a great park. But it is a really good one. Great place to take the kids or dogs. There are picnic tables right on the water.

This is a pretty cool park if you are into feeding ducks, fishing in the ewww'y looking waters, or an ankle bitter than has a lot of pent up energy that needs to be released.

Pretty much a hidden gem and I discovered it with the Houston Women's Hiking group Southeast…read moreedition when we did a Sunday hike. Yesterday, I came back and did a solo walk that was 4.9 miles. You can say that's pretty much a hike by then. This park has both walking and biking trails; I like to do nature walks and loop back into the concrete paths. The very end leads you to a residential area and furthermore walking, but I stop at the loop. Be careful if you decide to walk the trails in the evenings since careless dog owners love to have their dogs roam without the leash despite the leash laws. I've had three big dogs come up to me and their owners were no where to be found. I love the local artwork in the park; it's so vibrant and nice to look at. There are two dog parks for small and large dogs, but since they are considered a cesspool (that's how my veterinarian described it), I don't take my dog here. The dog parks are huge and apparently maintained on Mondays so they are closed. Unlike other parks I've been to, this one has restrooms near the basketball courts. There is a large parking lot and a field for baseball too. The paths for the bike trails are dirt, some rocky, but trekking poles aren't needed since majority of the path is flat. However, if you go deep into the woods where the trails continue on, there are some parts that are steep in slope. This is a pretty well rounded park that has everything for everyone. I've even seen people fishing in the bayous. Lynn Gripon is very near Challenge Seven park, but as you know Challenger 7 trails are under construction so this is the best best thing! Come check it out!

The Husky attacked my dog and would not let go of him, the large strong man tried to pull him off and in the mist of that I got my hand bit. The guys other dog came up behind me and bit my hamstring which I had to get stitches on and also stitches in my hand. My dog also had to go to the doctor's office as well, with a wound to his ear. The guy left the park and never came back to check on us and exchange information. I do appreciate the people there checking on me but no on stopped the guy to get his information. Its a nice dog park and the people were nice but after going for a few weeks you can tell the dogs kind of clique up and that can be scary when they are hovering over your dog and trying to pick a fight. If you go I would say stay away from the morning group 6:30-9:00am.
