Due to a series of unfortunate events, I have required a lot of physical therapy for upper extremity issues over the last 20 years. I have seen numerous physical therapists at variety of locations in the Boston area. Some have been sole practitioners and others have been at premier facilities. At this point, I could almost be a physical therapist myself. Anyway, I divide physical therapists into three categories: good, ok, and bad. I have experience with every category. The first thing to know is that there is a world of difference between a good physical therapist and an ok or bad one. With a good therapist, you are going to improve and feel hope. If you are not, they are going to suggest that you try something else, maybe even surgery. With an ok one you might feel somewhat better but you may find that you never really reach your goal, which is frustrating. With a bad one, you are going to find yourself in more pain. With a bad one, you might even find that they get frustrated with you because you aren't getting better (e.g. try telling a therapist "I've gotten worse since seeing you"). Anyway, of all the therapists I have encountered, have known two in the good category. Sarah is one of them. First off, she is highly trained and is going to examine you and work with you one on one. She is hands-on, which means that she is actually going to touch your body and find where there is tightness or imbalance. She is going to give you a step wise program so that you can progress and feel better physically and mentally. She is going to pull a variety of modalities out of her toolbox so that you can stay challenged and interested. And she is going to get you back on track when you have a bit of a setback. Sometimes one has a problem that is acute and once you deal with it, it is over. Other times, one has more of a chronic problem that needs attention every once in a while. Sarah is great in both cases. She is always friendly and welcoming and always ready to provide a practical solution. Sarah is a great physical therapist and I cannot recommend her enough. read more
