Crowd: somehow there were a lot of Asians that booked this hostel. I was in a room of all Asian girls, I'm Asian myself and maybe they wanted to put us all together? Hostel: the rooms are freaking huge! It's old though but huge! The place is sooo big. They have courtyards and garden areas, big cafeteria that you can order food. The breakfast is the best breakfast ever for any hostel!! I'm not talking about bread, cereal, and a muffin. I'm talking about a selection of breads, sweets, real food (rice Wth seafood, tomato rice, meatballs with sauce, little hot dogs with veggies, eggs, eggs with bacon, a killer drink machine that makes the best cappuccino!) the breakfast was amazing and they did not cheap out. It was buffet style as well. The bathrooms were plentiful with showers. There's a 2am curfew and a 11pm quiet time. So if you wanna party go somewhere else, because the receptionist guy will give you crap. And tell you to shut up. The wifi is everywhere! And it's pretty good. Hey also have computers you could use as well. And they sell food and water for cheap. They don't try to over charge. A big water bottle was less then 1 euro! Other places sell that for 3 euros. Price was really good for hostel, under 30 euros. This was probably the best hostel I stayed at! Totally recommend if you are in Florence!

Great Location. very close to San Domenico's church and several restaurants (though a short walk to Il Campo where the evening action is, it's still a totally conveninent location b/c you SHOULD be walking around Siena!) They have several rooms w/ incredible views of the city. First come first serve so book early! Our double room w/ private bath was clean, comfortable and had a better private bathroom than i was expecting (separately enclosed shower, not the size of a tin can, etc) It's a converted convent so don't expect the W hotel Nice buffet breakfast included (pastries, yogurt, coffee/espresso, nuuutelllaaaa, and fruit) Conveniently bookable online/via email. internet access in a common room for a couple euros. Cons: Walls are thin. I could hear a couple talking next door at night but, happily buzzed on red wine, I fell asleep anyways Front desk personnel are polite but not friendly. They answer questions but dont offer up much more. not really a con but just an FYI, We were younger than the average guest by a good 30 years. Lots of senior citizens with their valuables in a pouch wrapped around their neck. Just saying.. You're going to be spending a lot in Italy. Hotels, trains, food. Save a little and stay here. You get great quality for what you pay.

We stayed at the Alma Domus for few nights back in 2010 and promised ourselves we'd go back... We just stayed for 2 nights in mid-June 2015 and it was incredible!!! Our small group of 12 booked six of the larger remodeled rooms on the top floor with the views of the historic center and the Duomo and we were blown away!!! So location is the #1 reason to stay at The Alma Domus, just a 2-3 minute walk to Piazza del Campo... and Incredible Value is reason #2. The newly remodeled rooms and bathrooms are wonderfully appointed for a hotel in this price range!!! We had large superior triple rooms in the mid june high season for 110 euro and quad rooms for 125 euro... all with views, balconies, air-conditioning, and breakfast!!! I don't think you can find better value in Siena with this location, the charm and quaintness, and the amenities... Both the bathroom amenities(shampoo, soap, etc) and the free breakfast are very basic but fully adequate... If you can't live without your L'Occitane shampoo, and french milled soap, bring your own... Breakfast is simple but nice; juices, coffees, teas, cappuccino, espresso, croissants, pastries, cereals, fresh fruits, yogurts, sweet cakes, etc... The staff at the hotel was so friendly & helpful to our little group of friends and we found this hotel to be just magical... Waking up to the morning church bells just adds to the magic!!! Thanks Alma Domus for a truly wonderful stay, we'll be back soon!!!

As a solo traveler, this place was perfect! First of all, Romina was amazing, amazing hostess with the most-ess! She literally knows everything and anything that's going on in Florence; and she even has her own app!! From the best tiramisu in town to live music, to the "hot new restaurant" - she'll guide your way. So this gorgeous "hostel" was previously an elementary school... gorgeous architecture with marble floors! (I'm sure not too many hostels have that...) But if you can remember your old small gymnasium.. well yeah, that's the main "lobby" part of Tasso, with a bunch of tables and sofas to lounge. And the gym stage is where Tasso hosts the frequent local music acts that play on the weekend! Yeah... how cool is that?!? :) My solo room was quite large, extremely comfortable bed... locker inside to stow my belongings. (Just remember to bring your own combo lock with.) Shared bathroom was totally fine.. i never had to wait; nor do I think I even remember hearing anyone else go in there. ?? Loved this place! It was a total yelp find.. I can't recommend high enough. And I'll absolutely stay here again with future visits to Florence. Being on the other side of the Arno was great... it was certainly "less touristy". I stayed in Florence for a few days, so I even found "my own coffee shop" that i'd frequent because I stayed at Tasso. Tons of charm... amazing service.... totally secure location... comfortable beds... and I met the coolest people from all over the world!

We spent an amazing two days and one night at I Terzi di Siena which is a beautiful place to really absorb the allure of Siena. I Terzi is conveniently located near Piazza di Campo (Campo Square), which is the center of town. A cool makeshift horse race is held in the Campo once a year. I Terzi is located in one of the tallest and oldest buildings in Siena and offers its guests breathtaking views of the Sienese rooftops, Cathedral and magnificent sunsets. We had the pleasure of viewing a glorious sunset from the terrace while drinking wine and hanging out with a couple from Australia and another from Germany. From the terrace, one can admire the Torre del Mangia (Mangia Tower), the Siena Cathedral, the Basilica Cateriniana San Domenico (Church of San Domenico) or just gaze off and lose yourself in one of the best views in all of Siena. The rooms are all recently renovated and furnished quite pleasantly. We shared bathroom in the hall with another room but we never had an issue with availability. It's like a fancy hostel for grown ups. . I Terzi di Siena also has a fully equipped kitchen, living room and a free wi-fi connection in every room. It's very easy to feel at home here. We had a spectacular time at I Terzi di Siena and can definitely recommend it to almost all travelers. Due to the nature of this historic building, it does not have an elevator (lift). So we caution that if you have difficulty traversing up five flights of stairs, then this is not the spot for you. Most people can make it up just fine. They do offer assistance with luggage, but make sure to let them know in advance so they are around to assist you. Their reception is only open during certain times of the day, so plan ahead. That said, if you do not mind a little work out, this is a very comfortable, centrally located place to stay with literal heavenly views that will make it well worth it.

The fine print on their site says. "The property is located in a restricted traffic area. Guests can access this area for free for 60 minutes, for loading/unloading of luggage. Please contact the property for further information". Following this inforamtion, we drove to the property, dropped off the luggage (parked for no more than 20 minutes), gave our license plate number to the hotel, and did the same for picking up our luggage. Fast forward 2 months, we receive two tickets from the Siena Police department, totaling $300. This place had given the police station the wrong license plate numbers. Their first response was "No problem, we will take care of this for you" However that did not happen. They did not take care of it, stopped responding to our calls and messages and we are now stuck paying for a $300 ticket. I would not stay here or trust this place, despite the other reviews written.

For me, it's a modest, incredibly romantic, one of a kind medieval inn hidden inside the center of the most enchanting city of all of Italy. For my husband & I, it has long been our "secret" rendezvous place. Our most fondest romantic memories are connected to Siena & this hotel. It's not fancy, it's 30ish modest rooms do not have much of anything except breathtaking views of the Tuscan countryside. There is however one mysterious room that used to be a dungeon. Siena & The Cannon is full of mystery & legend. Viewed from a distance, it sits majestically high on a hill surrounded by a thick stone wall. It looks like a fairytale fortress, where once upon a time rose lipped maidens, knights & nobleman walked its tiny stone streets & danced in its palazzos. I wasn't sure if I wanted to write this review as some special places should never be shared & some stories should never be told. But there are also some that should never be lost & as it should be, with any great secret place or story, if it is going to be told it should be told well. To share its secrets, it's story, I will have to go back to the beginning, back to 1348, when Siena was decimated by the black death. The economy was destroyed, they lost half the population to the plague, Siena fell into decline & did not develop during the Renaissance like other Italian cities. So, somehow miraculously it was preserved from modern development & the destruction of war. Up until 1262 it was a Palace that was owned by a noble family. The Bulgarini family. I first came to know this place many years ago when I was studying art & wrote my thesis on the artist, Bartolommeo Bulgarini of the same family. However, that is not the only artist that is connected to this legendary Hotel & former Palace. After it changed hands, the next owners, Ghinibaldo di Saracino & his wife Sapia Salvani, are actually featured in Dante Alighieri's epic Italian poem, Divina Commedia. The Divine Comedy, is Dante's masterpiece, it's the best literal expression of medieval culture & considered one of the greatest works of world literature. If that isn't inspiring enough, just take a walk outside the hotel. Walk via Montanini & via Banchi di Sopra, circle the whole city on tiny stone streets that are filled with exquisite shops, boutiques, cafes & restaurants. The best of the best of Tuscany's food & wine scene. Hubby's favorite restaurant that serves 'floppy ear chicken' pasta (rabbit) is right down the street & I purchased my all time favorite pair of Italian leather boots right next door. It's also a short walk to the most beautiful Cathedral in all of Italy, The Duomo di Siena & steps away from the Piazza del Compo, the stunning Gothic Palazzo Publico & The Torre del Mangia. The same bell tower in the opening scene of the James Bond film, Quantum of Solace. In The Gladiator, when Maximus rides back home along a cypress lined path, that scene & all of Bertolucci's film, Stealing Beauty, were also filmed in Siena. When you enter the hotels tiny front entrance, you walk down a long, damp corridor, the stone walls & dramatic dark history echo all around you. The rooms are clean, have modern baths & are quite comfortable, even though one rainy night my husband & I did almost freeze to death in the dungeon room. However, that was entirely our fault. After a couple bottles of good Chianti, we eventually did open the closet door to get the wool blankets out. Then we made a awesome fort with them so we could hide from the ghosts of purgatory. It's a 12th century old Palace, it can get vampire creepy at night. Although solid & fully intact, it has old creaking windows, exposed brick walls & stone arches protruding throughout, it is somewhat primitive. Wifi is available but forget your electronics & being connected. It's precious gift is the resilient feeling it gives, to forget just for a while what century your in, loose yourself in the surroundings, to go back to that place of pure connection, of intimacy & raw emotional vulnerability, it recharges your very spirit. The dungeon room, a oddly narrow room with super high ceilings has one tiny window. It is very high up. The only way to get up to the window to see out is to stand on someone else's shoulders. Good times. Looking out, there are no words for the awe inspiring colors that can only be compared to French Fauvists. The painstaking beauty of Tuscany you will find all around you, it's almost heartbreaking. It has a history, a story, a powerful kind of place where secrets shared, passions renewed & memories made can never be lost or forgotten. When I leave, I only dream of coming back. I never say good-bye to Siena & The Albergo Cannon D'Oro, as there is only envy within good-bye's in such a remarkable place. Highly recommend.
