renovated studio queen room
Tara L.

We've stayed here twice now, and have to say that it's been delightful! We have been fortunate to have come here after the renovations, so keep that in mind. The location of this place is pretty easy to get to, and I like that it's away from the highway noise, but it's only 5 minutes to the on ramp. It is directly next door to the Courtyard, and we have also stayed there. We haven't gone back to the Courtyard in a while because quite honestly, it's dated, with the exception of the lobby areas. We have stayed in the studio queen room, and it's very spacious. Funny enough, each stay has us in the same room so far lol! We're not complaining as it's a corner room. I would suggest that if you want more peace and quiet, request the corner rooms, and definitely a higher floor. Of course, you'll get those much easier if you have Marriott rewards. The room itself is bright and relaxing in decor, and most importantly, CLEAN! In contrast to the previous design, these rooms have the same layout but the fixtures are more neutral and of good quality. Even the sectional is comfy. The vanity on the outside of the shower area is nice and roomy, and I like that they've included drawer and cabinet space versus the previous empty cavity. The only thing I would have to say about the overall layout of the room (and this is only because I'm a designer) is that the pieces of furniture are not organized with the space in mind. It's not maximized to the fullest, and the use of wall decor could unite these different elements easily. Other than that, I love coming here, and recommend those who want the flexibility to prepare food in your room and have more family members, to come here. Staff is friendly and professional. Parking is free, and so is WiFi. 20 minutes has you into Downtown core of Toronto and a plethora of yummy eats are abound to delight you. :)

A comfortable stay here. We came for the weekend as we were in town to celebrate great auntie's 80th birthday. Check in was quick. We had a one bedroom suite. It's nice to have a separate sleeping area. Bed is comfy and slept through the night. There are two TVs and had alot of channels to choose from. The sitting area is a nice touch with a cool long sofa that fit for that extra person. This is a good place for that short term business stay. What I didn't like was that lingering cooking/food smell coming from the kitchenette, which is probably common in most of the rooms and hallways. Stay comes with free breakfast and free wi-fi. Unfortunately, the mister and I did not take advantage of those freebies. We took advantage of the free water and coffee in the lobby area. Indoor pool and tennis court is here. There are places to eat that are walking distance, but you are better off having a car to get around.

Those two (2) hairs have been on that shower wall since our arrival - Tuesday, August 27th, 2013 - and it's now Sunday. Awesome.

We've been here since Tuesday, 08/27/13, and there are 2 hairs that have been on one of our shower walls since our arrival (if not earlier). The shower curtain doesn't obstruct the view of that particular wall, so I can only chalk it up to sheer laziness or lack of attention to detail as to why those hairs are STILL there. We still have another couple of days left before our departure, so let's test their social media savvy and customer service follow through. Here's a hint: We're on the 2nd floor. Let's hope that when I submit another review at the conclusion of our stay, the hairs will have been removed and I can give the establishment more stars.

A stream of blood running down the toliet all the way to the floor. It took 2&1/2 hours for it to cleaned up after I reported. Room 203

It's spacious and clean, 2 TVs and plenty of sofa seatings. We had a comfortable 6 nights stay while visiting from NY. We really love that hotel guests can use the Unionville Athletic Club on premise. The gym is big with a lot of machines & workout equipments. Plenty of parkings on site (with fee) and very convenient location for us considered our visit mostly for Asian food/eats. We will absolutely stay here again on our next 'food trip'!

Big fan of Hilton!…read more We ended up picking Hilton as the venue for our wedding, and they certainly delivered. We checked out a few other venues, but non-hotels didn't provide the convenience that we wanted and some of the other hotels didn't look quite as good. Location wise, it was perfect. It sits right beside the 407, which was amazing for our out-of-town guests. It's also on Hwy 7 and Warden, which is good for local guests. The wedding probably couldn't have gone much better than it did, outside of the things that our Wedding Planner dealt with. Staff were extremely nice. One of our wedding party guests had a very restrictive diet at the time, so she couldn't have anything on the menu, but one of the staff managed to get her something. They brought out food in a very timely manner and everything we ate, and tasted the year prior, was great! We had a minor mishap where we couldn't find the rest of our wedding cake, but they found it late at night. There are also plenty of placed to take photos - the stairs in the lobby, the outdoor garden, and the rooms themselves. I know some parties like to use the area across the street too since it's mostly an open field, as long as there's no Canadian Geese. The room we had was also very nice, and they were able to set accommodations for us to stay an extra night too. All our guests that wanted to stay were able to also book rooms there at a small discount. Rooms were well kept and comfy. Parking was included with our group. Overall, a great place to go for both a room to stay, and an event for your loved ones.

They do have complimentary coffee, hot water, and tea bags near the front desk; this was a welcomed addition as a snow storm hit during my stay. The small fridge and microwave does come in handy if you are staying a few days. The room was pretty clean and spacious, but the curtains don't close all the way; I normally wouldn't care, but my room was on the second floor and people outside can easily look right into your room. Another annoyance is that it can be difficult to find parking in the evening as the lot isn't that large and spaces in the front are partially taken up by the hotel next door. I like the look of the large glass walls of the shower, but there is a huge design flaw as the swinging door collects splashes and the water starts to leak out onto the bathroom floor. They do provide a towel on the door, so I guess they are aware of this issue. Overall, I did enjoy my stay. The drawbacks weren't serious, and the friendliness of the staff were top notch. I wouldn't mind staying here again in the future.

When I pulled up the the building, I thought they rebranded it as I sworn I've stayed here under a different Marriot brand. I pulled into the back parking lot which you have to register and pay for if you're a guest. There is a parking station out back but don't use that as it's way cheaper staying as a hotel guest. At front desk, they had a pretty decent sized lineup but they got through it pretty quickly. They asked if I checked in and I let them know when they were under a different name. They told me they actually have 2 hotels here which is confusing but confirmed that I had stayed here before. Front desk staff were really nice to me. They let me know that breakfast is included. I headed to my room and got settled. The room I had was pretty bright from all the natural light. The room has a tv, desk and a fridge. The washroom looked decent but later found out that the shower/drain was a bit finicky. The bed was decent. I tried the breakfast. It's super basic and it's OK at best but I do like that they have a few fruit options as well as yogurt. There's hot items and all things you'd find at a continental breakfast. Coffee is passable. I never checked out the amenities so can't really comment on them,

The room was quite spacious for a king with sofa, but you can hear the vehicle traffic all night. The black out curtains sort of did the job, the air conditioning is loud. And you can hear the refrigerator. If you're a sensitive sleeper this may not be for you. Also throughout the night can hear someone above- but I thought I was top floor??? Level of cleanliness was moderate, you can see some visible dirty sports. For the price points at $300 and change after tax, it was a bit steep. If you want to stay in the same building and get a free breakfast, choose the Towneplace Suites. Tips: - If you stay 5 nights or more, parking can be credited. - If you are Marriott Bonvoy Gold or higher, the gift can be $10 credit each night in the market - but keep in mind they charge tax in the market when considering pricing :) === 2. ROOMS Having stayed in double Queen and single King rooms: the rooms are updated and comfortable. The beds are decent, the linens in reasonable shape. LED lighting is available from the entrance with the mirrored sliding closet doors to the room and underlit desk area, and around the room which includes a couch, small. fridge and more. The HVAC is centrally controlled, though I found there is a switch on the unit that lets the unit produce only heat or only cold. The windows do not open in any way and the curtains are handy to stop the outdoor heat/cold as well as some of the low-level traffic noise. The bathrooms are fine; the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are available in pumps in the shower, but like may other hotels, there are not nearly enough places to hang a hand towel or bath towel. There is a decent-sized LCD TV though there is no digital TV guide available so get ready to keep flipping :) === 3. COMMON AREAS The lobby is modernized with the ability to print out boarding passes. The restaurant area is nice with a small business centre. The pricing is love-it-or-hate-it like all other Courtyards; might I suggest any one of the nearby eateries? The market beside the front desk has a selection of items but they charge tax and/or it's not complementary unlike some other Marriott properties. There are conference ballrooms downstairs along with a small gym that has free weights and some cardio machines. === 4. SERVICE Service is prompt and professional at the front desk. I had an issue with my latest room where in the desk light tube could not be turned on reliably and the HVAC seemed not to cool. They responded right away, but ultimately couldn't fix the light. But at least they tried, twice. === 5. ENVIRONMENT Overall, it looks like the place was modernized in the last 5-10 years. There is a Chinese chain restaurant and a spa on one end of the building. Parking is a little interesting: it's outside along the edge of the property or it's in old, strangely structured parking garage where it's $6 per night (unless you stay 5 nights in a row).

The rate came with a free basic and ok self-serve breakfast also. The hotel was totally booked during our 3 night stay and most of the patrons were ethnically diverse as is the Markham area in general. Parking is plentiful and free. But the hotel is not perfect. Because we drove here, I was able to bring my own down pillow for a change and from what I saw of the bouncy polyester pillows, that was a personal good call and I slept well. Wife thought the pillows were adequate for her though. The heating was nice and quiet and that's a plus. On the downside, the toilet seat was quite small and squat (short height) making its use awkward. Even our cruise ship toilets never evoked such a reaction from us. It's almost a show-stopper but tolerable for a few days. Staff was friendly and courteous. On the last night, one young lady staffer in fact also did a good job for me by getting an annoying guy next door to turn his TV down at midnight. Overall, I would be ok on returning due to good value but I would also recommend checking out other competition in the area as well.

The Canadian law is almost identical to the American law in that there is no certification or documentation that is standard or required, some doctors provide it based on the type of dog you have, if it's for a severe medical condition. I tried to explain this to the man at the front desk, he then told me that I had to provide it and that because they are a private establishment, he could refuse me. I explained to him that because they are a business open to the public, what he said is not true. He then brought out a memo that said three things, either they need to have a visible disability, two, needed to provide a service dog card if they had one, or three if they had a non-visible disability, they needed to explain that the dog is task trained, and the dog needs to be under control at all times. He thought it had to be all three, not one of the three. I tried to explain that to him and he told me I was wrong. Then, when I explained my dog was trained in the US and many trainers don't provide that, not to mention some Canadian trainers don't and that owner trained service dogs (which would then not have a trainer certification) are acceptable in Canada, he said that the Canadian law didn't apply to me, because I'm not Canadian. I asked him if laws applied to people in Canada, and he said yes, but not to me because I'm American. I then asked to speak to the manager, who apologized and explained that they do ask for documentation, though it's not required. She just asked that I check in with the dog, though the manager who checked me in saw Biscuit. I literally got told today by someone who doesn't understand the law, that the law they didn't know existed couldn't apply to me, and he was exceptionally nasty about it.

Even with a large number of guests the hotel breakfast was able to keep up with the demand. Parking lot was good. With the heavy plowed piles of snow and the fact that they shared a parking lot meant not as many parking spaces as needed so may need to search for a bit but we still always found one. I booked this hotel months in advance for an international birthday trip from the United States…read more What followed was six nights of compounding failures, deliberate misinformation from hotel management. 6 rooms across 6 nights: Room 405 (Apr 23-27) -- Original suite with king bed, kitchenette, and tub. Vacated mid-stay due to a plumbing emergency. Room 414 (Apr 27) -- First replacement. Significantly smaller, double queens, none of the original amenities. Room 201 (Apr 27-29) -- Second replacement. King bed but smaller, no kitchenette, no tub. Suffered a second plumbing failure on Apr 28 and sewage odor Apr 28-29. Room 204 (Apr 28) -- Temporary room provided solely so I could access a working shower. Room 212 (Apr 29) -- Staff physically unlocked this room for me to shower. When I returned, the door had been shut. Staff re-opened it -- and we discovered it was occupied. A female guest was in the process of changing. Hotel staff had twice granted me access to another paying guest's room. Room 203 (Apr 29) -- Final alternative after the Room 212 incident. Had the same sewage odor. Completely unusable. What went wrong: The lobby and pool were under active renovation my entire stay. I wasn't told until one day before arrival, despite booking months in advance. Had I known, I would have stayed elsewhere. The hotel's solution was to bus guests to a nearby Sheraton for pool access -- not acceptable. One elevator was out of service for an extended period. I have a medical condition affecting my knees. Repeatedly climbing multiple flights of stairs was a genuine physical hardship. Renovation appliances including microwaves were stored in the hallways throughout my stay -- a safety hazard and well below any brand standard. On April 27, I was forced to vacate my original suite mid-stay due to a plumbing emergency. Every replacement room offered was a downgrade. At no point was I given a room that matched what I had booked and paid for. Room 201 was placed directly above the active pool construction. On April 28 -- my birthday, the entire reason for this trip -- I was woken at 8:20 AM by loud drilling. Later that same morning, the hotel called to inform me that Room 201's shower, sink, and toilet would be out from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Nearly nine hours without basic water access. Upon returning to the room that evening, there was a sewage smell coming from the bathroom. It was still there the next morning. The Room 212 incident is the most serious failure of this entire stay. Staff directed me to and physically unlocked an occupied guest room -- not once, but twice. This is an egregious breach of guest privacy and safety that should never have been possible under any operational circumstance. When I raised the issue of my 60,000 IHG points used for my April 23-25 reservation, the property manager told me she did not have the authority to process a points refund and directed me to contact IHG corporate. I did exactly that -- and IHG corporate confirmed that she does have that authority. She had the ability to resolve this at the property level and instead chose to send me on a deliberate runaround. That is not a miscommunication. That is a manager using a false claim to avoid accountability. The hotel offered a partial refund of $147.70 against an original charge of $606.92 -- and only before the most serious incidents had even occurred. IHG denied my formal points refund request.
