Stayed at the Residence for a short work trip. Check in was easy, the room was large with kitchen and two bedrooms/bathrooms and a living room. Breakfast was great. Honestly, this was the most perfect hotel for our family with two little ones. The rooms are spacious which allows the kid some space to move around. Fulls size fridge, microwave, and all the utensils and cookware you need. Grounds are clean. Location is safe and close to everything; shopping, restaurants , and airport. I really liked that they had a dining table, work station, and even a small portable table to utilize on the couch. They also offer full buffet breakfast. Was just okay, but it's free. Stayed here again at the Residence Inn in San Mateo/Foster City area. This is a fantastic affordable place. I didn't get as good of a deal as last time, but only for a few bucks more per night was well worth it. I've stayed at many Inns around the area and IMO this is by far still the best one. Yes, it might not have all the glitz and glam that people want, but you get a decently sized studio apartment for the price you pay. I love everything about this place. Rooms are similar to studio apartments with many amenities. Full size stove with oven, microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator. Stayed for 3 nights during the weekday PROS: Staff is nice, check in is smooth, lots of parking, complimentary breakfast, they have a pickleball court and gym, kitchenette in room (fridge/freezer, stove, toaster, sink), also comes with a few cups and plates. The buildings are less hotel and more apartment style. I'd say at least 4 rooms for each build. The room I had is handicap friendly esp for bathroom. Cons: Parking cost by the night unless you have the marriot app. Although bathroom and kitchen are updated, the rest of the room feels older and stale. Very dark so I suggest getting an upstairs room. The room comes with a sliding door that you can open but it doesn't have a screen, also very accessible to strangers. My curtains remained closed for this reason and it got a bit depressing during daytime. Soundproof as in I didn't hear my neighbors tv but I heard their steps and movements from upstairs also heard everything from outside including the traffic from the busy road adjacent to my room. Overall I would stay again. But the amount of random fire alarms and plug ins were suspect. (As in check for hidden cameras) Plenty of stores around. Absolutely should have a car tho. 5 min drive to a outside Plaza with shops and food. 10-15min drive to the mall. read more

There are many reasons why this property has a "Wonderful" rating on Expedia. To start, it's a great value given the amenities and price point. The rooms are very spacious and quite comfortable, set up like a studio apartment with a full-sized kitchen that is fully outfitted with everything you will need to cook at "home" during your stay. The kitchen has a full-sized refrigerator, stove, oven, dishwasher and a large microwave. All quality appliances! The bed and bedding are super comfortable and these units have central air and heat which is much more functional than window units imo. For families and groups, there are loft units available upstairs. And of course, don't forget the gorgeous, centrally located pool and outdoor BBQ's! Location-wise this property is perfectly situated close driving distance from SFO, South San Francisco and San Francisco proper as well as being a relatively short drive to Oakland, Berkeley and the surrounding cities. Parking is plentiful and the property is located near the main thoroughfares of the bucolic waterways of San Mateo as well as very close to the freeway. Of course like most big cities and their suburbs, traffic can be an issue but with careful planning on off-peak hours you'll be fine. It is also close to the CalTrain station if you prefer taking public transportation to the City. If you're adverse to driving and parking in the City, you can always park at a BART station near San Francisco and partake in the comprehensive public transportation system which is always an adventure in itself. Nearby the property you'll find a large Safeway for all your grocery needs as well as Target and numerous other box stores as well as a plethora of dining choices from fast food to fine dining. You will however need a car if you don't want to opt for public transportation or travel to locales outside of the Bay Area proper like Muir Woods (highly recommend!). To me this is a great value as if you stay in the City hotels are expensive, parking is usurious and most accommodations don't have a full kitchen (or even a microwave let alone a mini-fridge). Back at the property you will find the perfect free breakfast set-up to start your day with a sumptuous, filling and fairly diverse selection of breakfast foods and drinks. Definitely a cut well above danishes wrapped in plastic and stale truck stop style coffee! Speaking of coffee, aside from the coffee provided in your room there is fresh hot coffee on tap available at breakfast and all day in the warm and inviting lobby. Caffeine addicts will not be disappointed! Saving the best for last, the staff. From the manager Kurtis to every person you encounter that works here you will get nothing but friendly, top notch service. They simply do it right and really go above and beyond to take care of their guest to make sure their stay is as comfortable and worry free as possible. Taken all together, these are the reasons I love staying at this property when I am in the Bay Area. Took my boyfriend's parents over to residence inn for their little weekend getaway here in the bay area. It's definitely an accessible place to stay around the peninsula. The bathroom was spacious and PWD accessible, great for my bf's grandmother and amenities were neat and tidy. The breakfast was free and good food was served. It looked like a safe area as well. Parking can be a little tricky if you're located in the back but luckily we were at the front area. There was also a little swimming pool located in the area but we didn't get to try and feel that out. Overall, it's a great place to take guests or host little gatherings. I would recommend staying here again. Only concern is that sometimes, there are very few staff around and they need more lighting at night. read more

Older, dated residence inn, but still clean and has good service. They were able to check me in early and when I flagged my room was missing a remote, they promptly delivered one. 3 stars for the hotel, but I bumped it up to 4 due to how friendly and helpful the staff was. Water in the shower got nice and hot. And the campus of the hotel was pleasant to walk around. Despite being close to a major street, it was very quiet. If you're really sensitive to noise then I recommend booking the fancier rooms on the second floor because I could hear my upstairs neighbor stomping about. It was a bit difficult to find the hotel and on late nights, I did miss the street that turned into the hotel. Parking fees were reasonable, but I also never really saw security patrolling (I guess the neighborhood was safe enough?). Definitely hard for a meal delivery driver to find the place, but that's to be expected. My room definitely smelled like raid cockroach spray, but per other reviews, it seems like that common. I also think the practice makes sense because these older hotels with kitchens easily attract bugs. I got used to the smell soon enough and housekeeping seems to only use it in their cleans once you check out. I also liked that, unlike most hotels, house keeping was willing to come later in the day (I sleep in often lol). Wouldn't be my first choice to return to, but for the price and service, I'd be happy to. read more

I checked in and asked for an upgrade as a colleague needed to stay with me (versus brave the 2 hr traffic each way). The manager (Kurtis) was SO pleasant and accommodating. My girlfriend Grace and I stayed here on Friday 7/23 the room was booked till Sunday the 25th but we ended up leaving around 11pm Saturday night. The man at the front desk when we checked in was friendly. I gave it three stars only because when we booked on hotels.com they didn't mentioned a 200 deposit cleaning non refundable cleaning fee if you have pets with you. It's non refundable. I understand when the guy at the front desk mentioned they have to have Stanley steamer come and do a deep clean after someone has a pet stay there but they should mention that on there too. She has different charges on her card but they never sent us a final receipt on what the charges are for. Only receipt was for the pet cleaning deposit. The room was nice when we came in the TV was on so I'm guessing someone didn't turn it off. I made sure to clean up before we left I took all the towels and extra blankets and left it by the door. My gf kept saying that's what the cleaning fee is for because I cleaned the dishes and put them in the dish washer they would just have to run it. They have free breakfast you just tell them what you want on the list and they give it to you. They didn't email us anything or give a receipt there to show what we were charged for the one we have is for the cleaning deposit. I dropped the key off around 11 or so I let the front desk person who was coming in know I put it on the little clear drop box they have. They have a Safeway and Costco by them but you have to have a car nothing is walking distance. read more

Stayed here for one night while visiting a project in the city of San Mateo. Was very happy with my stay. I could totally see myself here for a few weeks. Front desk was super kind and inviting . They have a market on site, which is great for picking up snacks . and was able to have the free continental breakfast wasn't planning on it just went upstairs upstairs to grab a coffee and the smell was incredible. it was fully stocked and delicious and I didn't arrive super early. Everything looked clean the room didn't smell like smoke. Plenty of towels lots of space. Overall happy I stayed here. I plan on staying here again when I return. read more

The room is spacious with a full kitchen with dishwasher and stove top. The bathroom can accommodate wheelchair & elderly. It's nice to crash here if you need somewhere to crash for the week with Covid or other extenuating circumstances. Definitely comes in handy if you have family visiting who likes to cook their own meals etc. The room is not too airy and bed is not too comfortable. i found a huge black spider in the bathroom of the hotel room so I called the front desk and I asked them if they could move us to another room so when I got to the front desk the manager Curtis asked for a picture which I showed him he acted irritated and had a bad tone about the situation so I asked him he was why are you having a tone with me he continued so the situation escalated we had a discussion back and forth, I called him out and he continued with his aggressive tone he also said I can't compen your room because it was only a spider and not a roach whixh I didn't comprehend. I was obviously bothered by he's customer service was horrible I have never been treated so bad he askes me to leave I will never stay at this hotel again read more

I used to travel to LA for business and stay in Sheraton at least once a month and also tried Fairfield and Marriott. Though they are all owned by Marriott, Sheraton experience was just no match. I thought I wouldn't like any other hotel as much as Sheraton, until I came here. This is my second stay in Residence in San Mateo. Having a pet flea problem at home, I decided to do a deep cleaning+ spray treatment at home and stay at a hotel. Both time we arrived past midnight. Last time was two weeks ago, the front desk was very welcoming, helped me check in, thanked me for being a gold member, gave us welcome bags with snacks and water, room was clean, though to go breakfast was a little disappointing. Second time here today, same front desk helped me check in, extremely kind and welcoming, thanked me for being a gold member, waived parking, told me that they are trying to make things go back to normal: there'll be to go & HOT breakfast tomorrow morning with bacon and eggs and other choices, gave me welcome bags with options: water, sparking water, even white & red wine! The place was clean and the staff was friendly. But like most businesses there are problems they blame on covid. Covid isn't the problem. The problem is what you pay and work conditions. Stayed over 7 days no cleaning. Kitchen should be sweep and moped. Same for the bathroom. Would have been nice to have trash bags in the kitchen, nope. On my last day the house cleaner walked in on me while I was bathing. That's a no no. My check out time was noon. All of this happened at 9:30 am. Front desk said she thought I had checked out. What gave you that information when my bags were in the room, lights on and water running in the bathroom. Sorry is what the front desk said. Keep those doors locked. I'm spoiled, accustomed to living in a decently sized house, so I'm struggling a bit with my temporary downsize even though the place is cared for very well. What actually makes this place amazing is the staff! James Compani was the first person I met behind the front desk and I was convinced he was a manager because he truly invested into the engagement. He arranged for a showing and thoroughly explained the property and amenities with enthusiasm. He's not a manager and they should change that! James is there almost every time I call the desk and is probably a huge reason why people decide to give this hotel a try. Kurtis is the front desk manager and checked me in when I returned. He was so personable, yet professional and thorough. I was very impressed! I've also had the pleasure of receiving assistance from Marlene, who's smile could not be hidden by her mask. Breakfast hasn't always had bacon or sausage, but they did NOT skimp with what they give you and the coffee is delicious. Joanna was a delight. She reminded me of my relatives who continuously push more food my way. I may have discovered the secret to the overflowing hospitality and service! On my second day, I was introduced to the general manager, Hugo. He addressed my questions with transparent effort to find a way to satisfy or exceed my expectations where he could. I'm just one guest staying for a period of time, but he acted as though I was the new owner and he was ready and happy to serve. To all of the staff I've named and the many workers who have all smiled and nodded at me through their masks on the paths, thank you for making this place and my stay special! read more

My company booked my stay here while I'm in town for a few days, so it's just by circumstance that I'm here however, this place is great! I read some of the bad comments & would disagree. The carpets are a lighter color so they will show some dirt as opposed to a hotel that uses dark carpet. And I found no odor in my room at all. The rooms have a full kitchen (with dishes, pots, cutlery, etc), decent size flat screen tv that swivels to face the bed or the couch, and an offset bathroom with a heater in the ceiling. As a nursing mom traveling, I can't tell you what a nice surprise it was to have a full size fridge so I can freeze and store my milk immediately. I know that many of you probably don't care, but nursing/pumping moms everywhere would rejoice!! Staff is also super friendly. I haven't experienced breakfast or HH yet, but I imagine the quality is great. Nahit who checked me in had some great food recommendations, one of which I'll be reviewing next. With that being said, the location is actually pretty solid, especially if doing business in Silicon Valley. This place is right in the middle of it all and still secluded enough to allow for a nice nights rest. The service is good and the grounds are nicely maintained. Room was newly remodeled and the grounds of this property were immaculate and well groomed. The location, however, left a LOT to be desired. This Hotel is in the middle of an Industrial area. Good luck finding something other than a Taco Bell or McDonalds within a 3-mile radius. NO wine bars, breweries or even restaurants within walking distance. It's about a 15-minute drive into Redwood City which was worth the drive. My biggest issue here was the placement of the fire detector. It was directly over the bed where the pillows are placed. WHY? The thing radiated a tremendously bright green light all night long. This kept me away. The mattresses weren't very comfortable. It was okay. I would stay here out of convenience or for the price, but if you're looking to be within walking distance of any "action" this is definitely not the place to stay. read more

This has been a regular spot for my family and I when coming to the Bay Area. We had scheduled to stay over Thanksgiving and because of the snow storm on the Grapevine we didn't make it for our reservation. Pretty decent establishment. The outside looks a bit rundown, but it's decent and nice inside. The hotel room was nicely decorated and cleaned. They even wash the dishes for you by placing the dishes and pots into the dish washer for you! They have have a swimming pool and basketball court. They also have free hot breakfast in the morning with eggs, sausage patties, oatmeal, potatoes, french toast, various condiments (sour cream, cheese, salsa, green onions, ketchup, tobasco sauce, sriracha, etc), make your own waffles with various toppings (walnuts, blueberries, chocolate, strawberries), oatmeal (with different toppings you can put on), toast, muffins, bagels, cereal, yogurt, oranges, bananas, apples, and various drinks--apple juice, orange juice, coffee, tea. Tip: The make-your-own-waffle machine is really popular, it takes 2 mins to make a batch and you'll have these folks hogging it all the time. So get in line! Also, the batter is bland so you might want to add some brown sugar to make it tasty. Overall: Although a bit rundown on the outside, service is good, rooms are good and the food is good. The Polynesian lady at the front desk is extremely rude. When asked about linen exchange she stated I told you we have limited service and I stated yes but what does that mean. I had to ask where there certain times of day you can ask for them since I been here a week and no new towels, she said leave them out side your door so that's what I did and then when they came to the door they were upset that they weren't put in a bag which I wasn't provided. I think they need to be more clear and step up their customer service. I was placed here to recover from surgery and don't think anyone should be treated this way. They either apply corporate policy by whim. Inconsistently. With incidental charges. Wanting to charge me a deposit of $20 A DAY for my 120 day stay, or they LIE TO YOUR FACE. They are either incompetent or unethical. 3 other people staying at this same location that are with my company have paid $0 in daily incidental charges. And my 60 days at another Residence Inn location in Los Angeles charged me $0 a day for incidentals. I simply paid as I checked out. I believe "corporate policy" is being used as a blanket excuse for scamming me for a deposit. Or they just are choosing to target me to enforce their policy and not bothering to target others for some discriminatory reason. read more

So my husband stays here a lot for work and on the weekends the kids and I would come and stay and spend time in the bay area. This hotel has to be hands down our favorite hotel we've stayed at. Even like it more than the fancy ones in the city. We had the townhouse style room so a room upstairs and a room down and it was just awesome. Spacious and comfortable, has a full kitchen and 2 bathrooms. Absolutely love their service, rooms were always cleaned on time and they have free breakfast with a pretty big variety.
