Came in for a quick look to check out children's books with our toddler. Picked out two books and were looking for more in another part of the store. I picked up a few books and the owner came and said she was holding a book for someone, with the stack of books I was looking through. How convenient right? The owner just stood there, making us feel extremely uncomfortable. I had to grab the book out of my toddler's hand and set it down on the pile of books. We wanted to get out of there fast. As we were leaving, the owner decided she wanted to be friendly and offer the same kid's book she was "holding for somebody" for free because it was our first time. Although we had every intention to purchase books, we declined and left the store with the feeling of being RACIALLY PROFILED. My family and I are from out of town, of asian and spanish descent. We left the cramped store with our morals in tact. My child does not need to experience racism at such a young age. DO NOT VISIT THIS BOOKSTORE!! The audacity of an elderly adult to force a child to abandon books they had searched for and found, is completely asinine. The fact she felt guilty and ashamed of her behavior by offering one of the books she was supposedly holding for someone is unbelievably embarrassing on her part. If there were books being held, you would think to leave it on the side by the register instead of in a random messy pile that shoppers look through that is literally the entire bookstore. We had just paid a visit to the book store down the street and easily spent money on brand new books and received this type of treatment at this establishment is absurd. read more

A few months ago I purchased some books from ReRead. I live approximately 20 miles from there. I have read all the book, and have been trying to redeem them for more books. I've made 3 trips there, when the Website says they're open, and they are not. No note on the door. Have called at least 3 times, left a message, no response. I was in Westerly on Sunday to perform in a local Murder Mystery event, and left my boyfriend to his own devices to roam around downtown while I was in the show. The boyfriend is a horror writer and huge book nerd, so of course, he made a beeline to the nearest bookstore, and when we met up again later that night, he took me over to ReReads to show me just what he had found! I was delighted to stop in and see the stacks upon stacks of books in every genre, and I wish we had more time to stick around and browse! The owner, Jill, was there, and she was delightful! We got a chance to chat with her about books, the town, and everything in between. A quick note - even though it says they are only open until 8 PM, check by if you're hanging around downtown Westerly later - chances are Jill will be there, catering to the night owls who are looking for a late night read! I love that there was a bookstore open past "normal" hours... we so rarely see that on Aquidneck Island! They need to open a ReReads closer to me. While I came in unsure of what I was exactly looking for, Jill eagerly helped me find two books right up my alley. Jill was incredibly friendly, asking me not only about what I'm reading but also where I'm from. She has great prices, and her store encourages using secondhand books. As a writer I am also an avid reader who vehemently believes in supporting independent new and used bookshops. This is what initially drew me into this store. However, It is with great disappointment that I disclose why I WILL NEVER GO BACK to Re-read Books. Owner, Jill, despite having multiple posted signs in her shop, "buy 2 books get one free" proved that she cannot be trusted to honor her own policy. ("are you local?" Jill asked. "No, we live in Jamestown." "Ahhhh...") After purchasing 6 books I gave no thought to checking my receipt until the following day. I DO remember thinking that the final price sounded high for what should have amounted to 4 soft-cover second-hand novels (=$48) Not only was I charged for all 6 books but Jill took the liberty of marking one book, which had no price, (and was the smallest at 180 pages and, arguably, the most insignificant of all) at the highest price of all (= $8.50). She made no mention about this throughout the transaction. The following day my first phone message to her shop was polite. In it I briefly described the "inadvertent" charges and asked to be called back to straighten out the matter. No response. I checked the store hours and waited until the shop was open -to give her the benefit of the doubt; I still had hopes that she might call me back. Sadly, I was mistaken. Nothing. Zero. Nada. Wanting to remain fair, I calculated the cost of the least expensive book, ($5) along with the arbitrarily priced one ($8.50) for reimbursement and called my credit card company who reversed the overcharges. Unlike the shop's owner the credit company was fair and obliging. To Jill: This is no way to run a business. To would-be customers: run, don't walk, to the nearest exit. read more

A gem in downtown Westerly with an owner who cares about both their books and their customers. I was searching for books for my middle school classroom when I came in, some specific titles, but mostly browsing. After chatting with the woman working, she actually spent a good 20-30 minutes helping me search for titles and making some phenomenal recommendations (which have already been a hit with my students!). It's evident the store's owner cares about what books are in her shop and the condition they're in. I cannot compliment the customer service enough -- not to mention the updated selection of books that vastly outweigh other local book shops. If you're in the area and this shop is open, do yourself a favor and stop by. read more

Today was my first time at Rereads Bookshop. I'm on vacation and my friend and I stopped in to look around for some books. We found plenty of options and the woman who helped us was wonderful! She was so helpful and knowledgeable about the locations of everything in the store. We are definitely coming back when we visit next year! Stopped by ReReads today and it was a great decision!! Books everywhere all used (obviously) and a huge selection!! The shop looked just like any great book store should, full. I came looking for Stephen King books and was happy to have 20+ to look through. The owner, who after coming to yelp I know to be Jill was extremely kind and helpful. Love this bookshop! Jill is so wonderful and personalizes my experience every time. I've read some of my favorite books based on her recommendations.
