TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! But, the BILLING WAS ON TIME!!! I signed up with the trash service in February 2019 and had 2 missed trash pickups and then requested to have my 65 gallon containers exchanged for the larger 95 gallon containers at the same price. I have been waiting for 4 weeks for the larger 95 gallon containers to be delivered to my Lenexa, Kansas address. Customer service keeps giving me excuses and today was my 4th missed delivery date for the new larger trash containers. I will be cancelling my trash service and hiring another company. Like to old cliche, "You get what you pay for" is absolutely true with Republic Trash Service, they have the lowest rates and the WORST customoer service in the area. Trash pickup - 5/5... Customer "service" - worst of my life At the time of writing I have now spent over THREE HOURS attempting to cancel service over a period of 7 MONTHS. My initial attempts back in September of last year included about a dozen phone calls that were never answered, two voicemails that were never returned, and a letter. This equated to about two hours trying to contact them over the weeks leading up to my move to a new state...time that could have been spent preparing for my wedding (also happening that month) and/or move but instead were spent stopping whatever I was doing and taking a "break" to call in and see if anyone would pick up. No one ever picked up or returned my calls. After moving to a new home in Colorado I received a bill for my "continued" service, despite not having lived there for months and my earlier attempts to cancel. One of the attempts back in September was a voicemail explicitly stating my intent to cancel service immediately. I couldn't have been more persistent or clear. Fast forward to this year, and after receiving a bill in the mail I reached out again on April 2 in an attempt to resolve this issue that has been hanging over my head for months. After waiting on hold for 27 minutes (their new system allowed me to stay on the line instead of sending me to voicemail when no one is around), I was finally connected with someone who I shared my situation with, a representative named Diamond. Finally I thought we would be able to resolve this... After catching her up to speed, I was promised that I would hear back later that day from either someone from the local office (which apparently I wasn't calling into) or her superior directly. I did not receive a call from either. Not later that day...or the rest of the week. I was also told I could not reach the local office directly and would have to wait on them to call me. So it sounds like I'll just continue to wait until it's convenient for you guys... Then, I finally get "contacted" by someone a few days ago...that is, when they passed my information to a debt collection agency as I received a letter from Coast to Coast Financial Solutions. Looks like I now get to deal a second company in addition to Republic Services. Awesome. Was I happy with the trash service? Absolutely! I never had any issues. But now I'm 3.5 hours into attempting to cancel service that I haven't used since September of last year. Can't believe I'm going to say this but this garbage customer "service" experience has been worse than every cable customer service experience in my life, combined. For those considering signing up for this service, just hope you'll be a lifetime customer and never have to cancel. read more

Missed pickup, left trash in cans. I got the service and it seemed like a good deal. They missed pickup on recycling on my first 2 weeks. Then missed again two or three weeks later. During Christmas it was supposed to be a day late, then another day late because of weather. They never showed up. Saw Ted's doing their pickups, though. Called on Friday and they assured me it would be picked up on Saturday. It was not. Finally picked up the following week (last week) and left a bag in trash can. Fed up I called them and said if there were any more issues, I'd cancel. Yesterday they left a bunch of foam in the can. I called to cancel just now. It was about $12 to get cans when I started service. Over $40 to get them removed. I'm done. read more

Not only did Republic miss my recycle bin 5 weeks in a row, they also failed to pick up the rest of my neighborhood. I called and even went on the website. Each time I was assured it would be picked up the next day. They are real good at apologizing because nothing gets done. We of course left the bin out for pickup. Even neighbors who do not have Republic commented on the length of times the bins were out waiting to be picked up. Not only me but the neighbors that 'do' have Republic are voting with their feet and cancelling. Republic is not the only trash service in town and I found one that is 30.00 a three month cycle cheaper and better reviews. They don't care and apparently are swimming in money such that they can upset their customers with no concerns. read more

I had Republic for several years. Originally the service was fine but it degraded. Over time they raised my bill a portion at a time until I was paying over $200 for 3 months of service. When I finally investigated I found the same service for half the price and a larger recycle bin with another company. I can see that my neighbors who were Republic customers also switching. I had an extremely hard time stopping service. I waited for over an hour on hold for the cancelation department twice and was even disconnected once because their system was going down. I tried to send an email to their customer service to cancel and received a reply a week later that I cannot cancel via email or the web site and had to talk to someone. read more

This company has the worst customer service and doesn't care about their customers one bit. Back in August I watched the trash man not pick up our trash. I called in to ask them to turn around and pick it up. They refused and wanted to upcharge me for something I already pay for. Due to terrible customer service I chose to cancel my service with them that day which was before the 4th qtr billing cycle. I then received a bill for 4th qtr, I called in and was told it would be taken care of. It wasn't. I got another bill the following month with a late fee attached. I called in asking why Im still getting these bills when I dont have service with you!? They said they would take care of it. They didnt. I get another bill with a late fee and a container removal fee the next month... what am I late on and why are they tacking on random fees that was never disclosed?! I called in again, said they would take care of it. They didnt. Now I am in collections for $23 because the employees of Republic Services can not do their jobs on any level and multiple occasions. I tried to talk to a manager or higher up person in the company, their customer service only got worse. They do not listen to a word you're saying. They could care less about the customers despite the advertising they do about helping the community. The thing is the company is too big to care, my credit being damaged over something I dont owe isnt going to hurt them any. I've looked at reviews for this company on multiple sites now, all show very low ratings. Seems that I'm not the only one they are treating poorly. I will probably end up paying the $23 to protect my credit, which doesnt right a wrong by any means, and is probably how they get away with it and keep doing it. Dear Republic as a company, this will come around to bite you someday. You will never have my support and as a landlord of serval properties you will never service any of them. read more

Yelp needs to allow zero star ratings because even giving Republic Services one star is being far too generous. Awful trash service! Avoid at all costs. Wish I had done the same. We've been customers for more than three years, but that loyalty apparently doesn't mean anything and it will be the same for you if you sign up with them. Regularly miss trash pickup. Never at a consistent time to plan for (unlike the competing service in our neighborhood which drives by at clockwork...I know because I work from home and my office faces the street). That's who my business will be going to at the end of the month when we are ALLOWED to cancel. They will not allow you to cancel during the month FYI. Last straw was last week when with the Memorial Day holiday I wasn't sure if our regularly scheduled day of Monday would be pickup day or if they would delay a day to Tuesday. In the past, I received a robocall to let me know what was happening, but not this time. And when I went to the website to check the 'holiday schedule' on Monday and Tuesday, it went to a broken web page. Convenient. I requested a missed pickup through the website on Tuesday, May 28 and had my trash can out all day on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please note - we have a ring camera on our house and there was no pickup on Monday. So no pickup Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. We also had an EF-2 tornado come through our neighborhood on Tuesday night so I pulled the trash in which I think is the smart thing to do, but Republic apparently disagrees. Their driver drove by on THURSDAY (not Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday) and snapped a picture that he attempted pickup. Hello? You didn't pick up on Memorial Day, Tuesday or Wednesday, but now it's my fault as a loyal customer that I didn't keep my trash can out during thunderstorms and tornados so your driver could pick up when convenient for them. It's a good thing I don't have an HOA like many homeowners that wouldn't allow you to keep your trash can out for days in a row. So I requested a refund for the missed pick up and was told no since the driver had taken a picture of the attempt on THURSDAY. Now, this week they came to pick up on our regularly scheduled day of Monday, June 3 but we had an extra bag due to the missed pickup the previous week and they left that bag by the curb. I called in immediately around 2 pm to say there was a bag of trash left at the end of our driveway and the agent said they would send a note to the dispatch and she assured me that pickup would happen by 6 pm that evening. Now it's Tuesday morning and the trash is still at the end of our driveway. I call customer service this morning and the agent told me that the agent the previous day had just sent a note which isn't a guaranteed pickup except that's what the Monday agent did tell me. Now I'm told that I'll have a pickup tomorrow (Wednesday) so I get to keep my trash out for two more days through predicted thunderstorms. Horrible service. Horrible customer support. No regard for customers regardless of how long you've been sticking by them (and through multiple missed pickups). This is the end for my family and I just hope you don't make the same mistake that we did by choosing Republic Services. read more

This is by far the worst trash company we have EVER dealt with . SEVEN missed pickups in the last 3.5 months and , for No reason . They had no problem taking our money , just not our trash . The worst one was 2 Friday missed pick ups in a row , leaving us with 2 weeks of trash sitting in barrel and our driveway . I have no clue how many phone calls I've made , minimum 15 every week to try and get issue resolved , while they "promise " they will send a truck out and , never did until our next " scheduled day " Every single neighbor we have that had this company switched to KC disposal ( who never misses a pick up ) . We waited too long to switch but but glad did . They even missed our last scheduled day that we paid for and said they didn't pick it up because we closed our account . I must admit I am impressed with Republic Services and the gentleman who picks up the trash in my residential neighborhood. (He introduced himself as James). Each week they're timely & the driver and James appear to take care in the services they provide. Sadly I don't see that often enough in service industries ... but week after week the men who work the route where I live seem to do their job reliably, and with extra effort and consideration. WARNING -- Please be careful to review each and every monthly bill this company sends you because they will continue to JACK YOUR RATE UP unless you call them out on it! CAUTION -- Unfortunately, we weren't paying attention and missed this company's predatory billing practices!!! After an audit of our account, we realized just how much we were being screwed. Our last bill, which I can assure you will be the last check we ever write to Republic Services, was for $891.26. This was a monthly billing for a 6 cu. yd. dumpster with 1 lift (pick up) per week and it included a 33% add-on for "total fuel/environmental recovery fee" of $220.25, but that's really not even the real problem here if you can believe that! What we discovered after doing our research and calling competitors for the same size dumpster/service was, we were being OVERCHARGED BY $731.26 and could get the SAME DUMPSTER/SERVICE for $160/MONTH! After calling Brian, our new rep, and making him aware of this GROSS NEGLIGENCE, he basically admitted their system rolls out rate increases unless you update your contract/agreement with them. Just BEWARE! BTW, I also told Brian we would not be paying our bill and to cancel our service and to pick up their dumpster. He told me he would get me what I needed, because are you ready for this, THEY REQUIRE A CERTIFIED LETTER TO CANCEL THEIR SERVICE. Their service was OK in Overland Park, but their prices keep going up when I called to cancel my service they told me there was a $35 fee to pick up each one of their trash containers. That's pretty chickenshit to ask me to pay you to come get your equipment. This is the 5th time THIS year my trash will not be picked up on the day its supposed to be, and I will be FORCED to keep bags of trash in my garage since the can is full. Recently, I received a letter informing me that Republic would no longer collect recycling every week, but every other week, beginning on May 1, 2021. My regular pickup day is on Wednesdays, so on April 28, 2021, I should have had my regular pickup for recycling since it was before May 1. Just to be safe, I called Republic on April 27, 2021 to be sure that they were going to pickup on April 28; I was told they would. By 4:00 they still hadn't picked up my recycling (although they'd picked up my regular trash that morning), so I called Republic again and asked if they were going to pick up that day. Again, I was told that they would be out that day, i.e., April 28. They never came. The next day--Thursday, April 29--I called and told the customer service representative that they missed my pickup on April 28. I was told that they would send someone out that day or the following day, i.e. April 29 or 30. No one came on either day, and by 4:00 on April 30, I called Republic again. I was told that they would pick up my trash on the following Tuesday, May 4, 2021. It is now 4:02 on May 4, AND GUESS WHAT! THEY STILL HAVEN'T PICKED UP MY TRASH!!!! Now I am on hold, waiting to speak to a supervisor, listening to REALLY BAD MUSIC that I suspect was developed by Soviet PsyOp torturers to get captured pilots to confess to war crimes, but I will continue to hold so that they can lie to me again as to when they will pick up my freaking recyclable materials. One star is really too generous. Avoid these people at all costs unless your health insurance includes mental health counseling. read more

I would give this company a minus if possible. I used them for two years. After a rough start with them picking up the recycling, the next year and a half went without problems. When I called them to say I was moving, they informed me of a $30 per can fee for picking them up (empty) and gave me the pick up date. However, they were a no show that day and later called to reschedule. I thought this was ridiculously high price, but didn't have another option. A month later I had a bank deduction for the $60 (pickup for two cans) PLUS two additional fees I was not informed of, a $5.95 administrative fee and a $14.65 fuel fee. So, in total they charged me $80.60 to pick up two cans they dropped off for free two years earlier. I'm curious to know how they justify the difference. Consumers beware! Update: Almost immediately after posting this review, I received a response the following day from Republic Services. They quickly followed up on the complaint and are refunding all but $30, which I feel more in line with what I was originally told. read more

Zero stars needs to be allowed. If you live in the Independence, MO area DO NOT go with Republic. If you do...stay away from their online system. We got a call that our bill was due (we pay in three month cycles) so we logged on and payed it in November. We payed the full amount displayed on their website. However, two months later we are getting a call that our bill was due again and this time for almost $100 more than what we payed two months prior. So I call and get told that we have late fees and stoppage fees on our account even though 1. Our service NEVER stopped and 2. Their online payment service showed our normal amount WITHOUT stoppage and late fees. As I am on the phone in price shock with a very rude customer service rep after being transferred twice ("Our drivers must have been being nice but I don't know what you want me to do. There's nothing I can do for you") I'm looking at our online account and its showing $80 less than what she is telling me on the phone. Republic...get your crap together and align your systems. Terrible customer service, terrible bill pay system, hidden charges that accumulate out of nowhere. Oh and on top of it, when I told them I wanted to cancel at the end of this three month cycle for what I'm paying for....which is march...the sales rep tries to tell me that my account would be cut off in February...a whole month early. As a new customer, Republic Services failed to deliver the waste and recycling containers and additionally failed to pick up my yard waste. When I called to find out what happened and change my service start date, I was told they would have to drive to my house to confirm that the containers were not there. Three phone calls later, I finally said forget it. I'll find another company. I was assured I would not be charged for anything as they never delivered any waste containers nor did they ever pick up any yard waste. I have used your service for quite some time. In the beginning the service was great, but when the company merged with whoever, I saw a decline in the service, customer service and when a call is made it is to someone in another city. Recently we experienced a snowstorm. All other trash companies in the city of Independence, MO picked up trash the next day, except Republic. It's Sunday, February 20 and my trash is still sitting at the curb. I would request a credit, but I'm sure that will never happen. As much as you are paid, I feel this company should make every effort to pick my trash up. I even received mail on Thursday, February 17. Not only is your service bad, but the rates you charge are ridiculous. My bill has gone up 50% since March of 2020. That is unacceptable, if you want to charge the exorbitant prices, please give gold star service. Most trash companies in this city charge a price for each residents services. The prices do not change with every billing period. Most don't even charge fuel cost, but your company does. Something needs to be done this unacceptable. Every customer should receive a credit for Thursday, February 17, since all other companies came through and most of the streets by Friday were clear enough fir trash to be picked. I can see from all the trash cans still sitting at the curb in my neighborhood that many use your company. What if each resident in each neighborhood, got together and decided to quit using your services. I'm sure your company would take a hit financially, maybe to the point of shutting down. I know this has even been escalated to the Mayor's office. I recently visited the local office in Independence, MO to talk to someone about 2 missed pickups in March. I left my information for the supervisor over the drivers to contact on April 3, 2019 and as of today I have not received a phone call. The customer service for this company is horrible. When this company was locally owned it was a good company, but since they have merged you can never to talk to anyone locally and the people you do talk don't give a rats ass about their customers. The billing also sucks. You never know what your bill will be and they price gouge you. read more

Lousy service, every time there is a dusting of snow you can depend on your trash pickup being delayed or not picked up at all. When you call customer service (doesn't know the definition of this term) they inform you that they say they do not credit or refund for no pickup due to weather. There are multiple companies in our neighborhood that is pickinup today, but not Republic, oh no. If you are looking for a trash company go elsewhere. read more

I was a Republic Services customer from April 2014 through December 2016. I think they only missed picking up my trash once or twice, so I'll give them credit for doing that right, at least. However, during that time period, my rates increased from $52 (for January-March 2015), to $62 (for January-March 2016), to $72 (for January-March 2017). In total, that's a 38% rate increase, which is only slightly lower than the 44% increase that Comcast blessed me with over the same period of time. (And no, that increase is not attributable in any way to fuel costs; diesel decreased roughly 30% during that period according to the EIA, and yes, my fuel surcharges appear to have gone down somewhat correspondingly). I called to cancel my service on December 28th, 2016. My account was still auto-billed on January 4th for services January-March 2017, although I suppose that's sort of reasonable since I was invoiced for this time period on December 15th, and I assume someone would have had to take the initiative to dig around the system to cancel the invoice (if such a thing is even possible). I had to call to get the payment reversed (nobody responded to either of my e-mails), and I thought that was the end of it. Nope. Today I received an invoice for $29. Apparently it costs $18 for them to come pick up my trash cans. The remaining $11 is the administrative fee from my January-March 2017 invoice, plus a portion of the fuel/environmental recovery fee from my January-March 2017 invoice. Considering that I will not be receiving services (beyond having my trash cans picked up) during the January-March 2017 time period, I think it's pretty lame that I'm still getting charged for an admin fee and part of the environmental fee ... not to mention paying 25% of my entire 3-month bill just to have them take their trash cans back. Sure, these aren't life-altering fees (although boy, the fees that some of the commercial customers are mentioning on google are pretty life-altering!), and I'm sure it's more cost-effective for them to pick up one more load of garbage on an established route than it is to make a special trip out to pick up or drop off a handful of carts. Still though, the surprise fees and the rate increases leave a bad taste in my mouth, especially on top of my frustration with them when I signed up (I don't remember what they did, but I remember being seriously annoyed), and on top of the worthless robo-reply I got when I sent an e-mail asking if it was possible to schedule an additional yard waste pickup. Who knows, maybe all the other local trash services are just as bad or worse (I have Deffenbaugh now, and somehow they're even more expensive despite me living less than 10 miles from the landfill). But if I still lived in their service area and was starting service again, I wouldn't go back to Republic until I'd given everyone else an opportunity to jack up my rates and nickle-and-dime me too. read more

Odd there are at least 10 other houses with their service and their trash is still being picked up. Disappointing, I didn't have the issues the others have regarding spotty, irregular pickups but a month later with others still having service just shows they don't know what the heck they're doing. :( read more

This is the worse trash disposal service I've every had. It's too bad they don't have you an option to select a number of "negative stars". When I moved into my new home in September 2015, Republic Service provided great service. Trash was picked up every Thursday on time (early mornings, before 8 a.m.). In December 2018 I was notified that my trash pickup days were changing to Wednesdays. When Republic changed my service day, that's when all things went to hell in a handbasket. I've had so many missed trash pickup, that Republic Service should be sending me a check every quarter instead of me paying a bill every quarter. I've called every time they didn't pick up my trash, which is almost every week or every other week. Understand me, 99.5% of these times were not due to inclement weather. I live in a cul da sac and I checked down the street to see if my neighbors' trash had been picked up. Yep, but why did Republic not pickup my trash. I always set my trash out the night before it's scheduled for pickup. Everyone always has an excuse that doesn't hold water. I've gone to as much as contact the District Manager (Michael Legget). Here recently when I called him, he told me he is no longer over the area that services me, but he was willing to take my complaint and turn it into the proper area. Today around 12:26 p.m., I noticed a disposal truck with the name Superior Disposal Service (913) 406-9460 from Eudora, Kansas picked my trash up. I've never seen this disposal truck before. I'm wondering what's going on with Republic Service. I have always paid my bill on time, but I cannot get the services rendered that I've paid to get. At this point I've already contacted their office and at the end of my paid quarter, I am FIRING Republic Service and moving on to a company who cares about its' customers. My warning to anyone who reads these post. Look at the number of current or past Republic Service customers who have left a post on this site. You best heed the messengers or I guarantee you will be HIGHLY disappointed with trusting this company. They will not and do not offer a refund or do anything to compensate you for their negligence. There should be a law against taking your customer's money and not providing a service they've paid you to render. I will never trust them again. Republic Services of Independence Mo has no sense of customer service. As others have stated if I could rate this company a ZERO I would have. I transferred this service stupidly on May 1st, and have yet to have a correct pu. Then you have to call and sit on the line for 2-30 minutes. I am in the process of cancelling and have been on hold now for 38 minutes and am going to go to their address that is listed once it reaches an hour of wait time and tell them where to take their service. Yard waste was not picked up on Monday. I called and reported that on Tuesday and was told a truck would be dispatched that day to pick it up. That never happened so I called back on Wednesday and was told that the matter would be escalated and I should expect a phone call within 48hrs from a supervisor and that I had been scheduled for a truck to come by on Thursday. Thursday passed without the dumpster being dumped. Called Friday and reported that nothing I had been told had happened and got advised again that I would be contacted. The monthly billing arrived also on Thursday - billing me for services that were not being provided. I have complained to the city of Liberty and it is readily apparent that this company has marginal management and that might be giving them too much credit.
