Also, yes, they were generous to provide a free shuttle service from your parking spot to the entrance in a golf cart, which we really appreciated because we didnt have to walk in the heat, which is the obvious alternative. The tickets are a great price, especially knowing that it ultimately goes back to help the animals. Some people seem to be confused on the nature of this establishment. It is not a traditional "petting zoo" -- its an *animal sanctuary*. (Which is well disclosed everywhere, if you just take a moment to read a little bit, you'll clearly understand that). Their whole point is to rescue farm animals from cruelty and *slaughter* -- so it seems like common sense that a place that literally rescues farm animals from being slaughtered would also, of course, oppose slaughter and therefore, support veganism. Not complicated to comprehend if you just think it through a little. Obviously, it wasnt forced anyway -- it was just offered incase people were interested. No pressure. All of the volunteers we encountered were incredibly sweet and knowledgeable. You can tell theyre genuinely passionate about animals. They enforced the boundaries of the animals well, while keeping things fun and safe for everyone. Awesome facilities, very clean, and well planned. We arrived to find parking along a busy highway (?!?), with golf carts shuttling visitors to and from the entrance, just a few feet away from cars whizzing past. That was weird. Then we got to the sort of holding area where they keep guests until their reservation time. Before we went in, the owner came out to greet us...sort of. She gave us a basic history of the place, but before she did, she wished us "happy pride" and told us all about how virtuous she was, as if everyone should be celebrating? Weird and inappropriate to say the least. The last thing she did before allowing us the entrance we'd paid handsomely for, was to lecture us about becoming vegans. Which is one of my biggest pet peeves about vegans to begin with. Then she stood at the entrance and offered everyone literature on veganism as we walked past. I declined. Wholly inappropriate, offensive and off putting. I didn't pay to be lectured about something I disagree with. It was nice to (finally) see and interact with the animals, but some of the volunteers were too much. I understand they're used to dealing with idiots every weekend, but some of the instructions they were giving were flat out dangerous, like having babies (maybe 18 months old) feed carrots to grabby, nippy horses. Bad idea when little hands aren't any bigger than the carrots. Most (not all) volunteers were just a bit too power trippy and under-educated for my taste. I will say the facilities were pretty clean and appeared well kept, but the horses and donkeys were filthy and in dire need of grooming. Give your visitors brushes and curry combs and show them how to brush the animals. Win-win for everyone. It was nice to hang out with the animals, but most of the people I could do without. Probably won't be back again.

Spending time outside, getting dirty, with the animals is SO good for him. He comes home so calm and happy. He's become an expert chicken wrangler, duck snuggler and horse walker! Giving a "city kid" the chance to be so close to nature is such a gift! Emily is kind, gentle & knowledgeable. Her staff are enthusiastic and kind. They show so much patience with all the kids and help them to be a part of the farm. Being with these animals is something most kids in LA/Ventura would not have the opportunity to do. On the other,, my child and I were very bothered when we visited during an open event and saw the way small children were being too aggressive with the animals. Children were chasing chicks around, squeezing them, and swinging them. One parent even mentioned they'd had a few "casualties" in the past. Kids were kicking the goats and trying to ride them. They were grabbing the bunnies and chasing them as well. My child was very upset and we even tried to intervene, but were ignored by the kids. With the right supervision and appropriate ages handling the animals, this place would greatly improve For now, my child and I will look elsewhere when visiting animal programs.

We decided to drive around to see if there were any possible wedding venues that offer an all outdoor space that was rustic, charming, but still classy and elegant. We drove by a sign that said Kelly Gulch, Googled it, saw great photos on their website, called Sally up, and within a few hours was able to stop by to meet her and to view the farm. It was just what we wanted. We reserved it almost immediately and had the best wedding almost exactly a year later, during Memorial Day weekend 2015. Here are things we loved about Kelly Gulch: * Sally's great. She feels more like your wedding mom than a venue coordinator. It helps that she owns and lives on the property because you can feel the love she pours into it. Sally added so many great improvements to the property during the time we reserved and actually had the wedding. Every time we came back to visit, there was something new! * The venue is gorgeous--just look at the photos! It's small enough to create an intimate feel, but large enough to accommodate up to 200 guests. There are lots of trees, Sally's cute farm animals, a beautiful barn, a dressing studio, writing studio, an area for enclosed fire pits, a large parking lot, stunning wood bridges, and lots of other areas for great photo ops. * It's not a wedding mill. Other venues we looked at were very strict--you must show up at x time, clean up by x time, and felt very business-like. That wasn't the vibe we wanted, and we're so grateful we found Kelly Gulch. Sally let us do things like drop off our alcohol a week in advance and flowers the day before to store in her cool laundry area. Having that flexibility really came in handy, especially if you are having a primarily DIY wedding like we did. * Sally doesn't nickel and dime you. If she has something available, she will offer it to you and not charge you for it. For example, she has some tables, signs, drink dispensers, wagons, etc. that we were able to use in our wedding, which helped reduce costs. * I'm not sure if prices have gone up, but Kelly Gulch was reasonable compared to other venues we looked at. We really can't recommend Kelly Gulch and Sally enough. We had a dream wedding on a reasonable budget, and it couldn't have been done without first finding an amazing venue. Our one piece of advice to future brides and grooms is to order more bathroom stalls--at least 4--regardless of your guest count! Pay more if you have to--you won't regret it. We only had two, and I think we served way too many good drinks because there was ALWAYS a line at the restrooms. When one of the two stalls broke down toward the end of the night, that just made things worse. Our lesson learned is your lesson gained!

I love how this is a choose your own adventure sort of place. If you don't want to pay, you can still see a bunch of the trains, go inside some of the cars, and walk around the museum. You can also pay for a train ride, which our boys loved. It loops the park twice! Some of the trains have QR codes if you want to learn more, and there are also a few signs throughout that give more information about the trains. One of them is open for people to walk through a car, and it looked like there was another one that has a reservation system. Some of the trains also allow you to climb into the front and see/touch/play with the controls. Inside the museum, there's a penny pressing machine (!!!), a little play area, a couple of vending machines, and trains, of course! There's also a gift shop that has some typical train items. But they also sell some unique things like pocket watches and old receipts from an estate sale, I believe.

There is a small desk with an iPad when you walk in and descend to the lower level. When there is no field trips this place is a great place to bring your kids.
