Unfortunately, there is no option to give zero stars. Never, ever consider this place for a lifeguarding class. My experience was absolutely horrible. The instructor was rude to the students from the moment the class started to the very second it ended. She made us feel embarrassed for asking questions and made most of the students feel bad about themselves at some point. She made passing feel impossible (failed someone on a swim team who had gone to state several times on their laps, failed someone who has been a lifeguard for three years on their laps, failed some one on the brick test for completing the task perfectly but using the ladder to exit the pool when she was not around to hear that the ladder was not allowed as an exit, etc.). She showed no encouragement to those who did not pass a prerequisite skill (which was 9 out of 11 students) or much explanation as to why they did not other than "you failed, you can go home now or you can audit." She expected all students to be able to swim 12 lengths of the pool non-stop with their face underwater almost the entire time. If they were not able to hold their breath they were made to feel like they have no ability to be a lifeguard even if they could swim the 12 lengths perfectly with their head above water and will never have to do such a thing when lifeguarding anyway. In addition, every other lifeguard at my place of work said that their instructors informed them that they should always swim with their head above water so they can keep their eyes on the victim, and allowed them to swim their laps whatever way was comfortable for them. Lastly, the instructor failed to give detailed information about the class during registration such as the fact that it would take place in an outdoor pool because, being from out of town, I had no idea that their was an outdoor facility. I could not find out that information online because the Replex website was down for several days and the management neglected to fix it. Because of that, I showed up with no sunblock, and being a fair-skinned person, I got a horrible sunburn all over the body which made being a victim during practice rescues pure torture as the old, shredded rescue tubes scraped against my back and neck. All in all, the lifeguarding class at the Le Roy Replex was awful, and I would strongly recommend that nobody consider it as an option for possible lifeguarding class. Personally, I will not be setting foot in the facility again for any reason, and I will encourage everyone I know to avoid the place, too. read more
