Review Visit: October 22nd, 2014 Clearwater Park should also be called Spacious Park. Clearwater Park is one of many city parks in Bloomington-Normal. The city has literally 7+ parks, if I am seeing this map right. But what sets this one apart from the others? Space. This park is relatively bigger than a standard park. It has basketball courts, a volleyball sand pit area, a playground, a gazebo for parties and openness. I didn't spend a whole lot of time here, but I enjoyed every second of it. The leaves were changing colors, the weather was just right. It was a nice visit. I just enjoy the openness of this park. If you find yourself in Bloomington, there are quiet a few nice parks to visit. McGraw Park and Holiday Park are two you should definitely check out, if you have kids and they love parks... or if you are a kid at heart like myself. read more

This park is awesome. The park has a paved walking trail that goes around the outside of the park. It is half a mile in distance. Perfect for walking or running exercise. The park has basketball hoops, volleyball court, and a wonderful playground. My kids love this park. There is also a covered area next to the playground with picnic tables, which is a great place to enjoy a group meal. read more

Volleyball, Basketball, Playground for kiddos 5-11, great quarter mile running trail with plenty of trees, and in the winter great hills for sledding. My kiddos love the area and would definitely recommend. Note: I would love to share suggestions on future plans for upgrading the park - if the city park district is reading this :). read more

Review Visit: October 11th, 2014…read more Another park visited in Bloomington! This was one of a few parks my dad and I visited while in Bloomington. In fact, I have written many blogs on them as of late. So if you are tired of seeing Park blogs, I am almost done for awhile. Anyways, on to the park! This one is a bit more ambitious than your standard park. It has a football field and a basketball court. May be the first park I've been to that has a football field. Then it has your typical playground and some covered areas for grilling/cooking out. There are some large open fields to wander and feel at peace. Overall, it was a decent park. There was a section of some fake grass/cement that needed repair (as seen below). Not sure what was up with that. I do remember the wide open fields were nice. It's not the best park Bloomington-Normal has, but it's not the worst. Definitely check it out if you are in the area and need to wear your kids out.

Review Visit: June 10th, 2015…read more It's not Walt Disney World but it's a fine park for Central Illinois! Walt Bittner Park is named after a former Mayor of Bloomington who was an advocate for parks, recreations and zoos. It is fitting that a park dedicated to one who was himself dedicated to parks be one of the nicer parks out there. This park is situated in a subdivision. It has plenty of open spaces in which you can walk and enjoy the scenery. There is a smaller jungle gym playground area which kids can play. Next to that is a basketball court that is in the shape of a triangle. Not sure what to call that but it's a unique layout. Off to the side, there is a gazebo in which you can use to host events. All in all, it was a nice park to visit and the kids that live in the area are lucky to have such a nice park within walking distance.

Review Visit: October 11th, 2014…read more A small fun gem in Bloomington. My dad and I came here after exploring Bloomington and it was one of our last stops. It was a great way to end a fun day. Bloomington has a ton of parks and this one is on the nicer side of them. Opened up in 2012, this park is still in really great shape and it is nestled in a great community/sub-division. The park offers your typical playground, easy access to 'Gaelic Lake', walking paths that are relaxing to traverse and a nearby soccer field. The path/bridge over to Gaelic Lake really helps elevate the niceness of the park and helps amplify the peacefulness. If you catch yourself in Bloomington and want to spend a nice day at a quite park, Gaelic is sure to fulfill that. Small playground but a huge walking area, so if you need some alone time, you can go wander while the kids play on the playground.

It's got a wide open space for soccer, football, and other field events. It has 3 half court basketball courts, a small baseball/t-ball field, and a playground. The playground is pretty large with one area for smaller kids and another area for bigger kids. In the middle of all of this is a winding stream with a grasslands area and a beautiful bridge between the lake and the stream.

My son has been attending the quick start youth training performance program for a few months now. He goes to the program 2 to 3 days a week. This is a newer facility that is kept really clean. The staff members are well educated for this type of work. You can read about their background, education, and training specialties by reading their biographies on the wall. They have a nice relaxing waiting room for parents that is adjacent to the training area and it has a glass wall so parents can observe the training as it is taking place. At the beginning of the program they ask everyone to complete an assessment to document sports performance levels before taking part in the program. Then later on another assessment will be done to measure the progress. I really appreciate the fact that they do assessments like this. Last year my son took part in a similar sports enhancement program at the Four Season's Pit and they did not have my kids complete an assessment like this so it was difficult to know what progress they had made in the program. The pricing is also reasonable. I also appreciate their flexibility with the scheduling. If we cannot make our scheduled days for they week, they allow us to come on another day! Check it out! Good program.

I don't even know how many fields they have here, but it's a lot... and a lot of different sized fields for different ages. Despite our drought this summer, the fields held up very nicely, and the grassy areas seem to be taken care of. There's not much else to it - no concession stands, a couple of porta-potties, and a gravel parking lot. Also, be careful... getting in and out can be a bit tricky, as the speed limit on the cross-road is 55.
