Route 2 goes right into the middle of campus where you can see a delightful range of classic New England architectural styles in a rural setting with peaceful views of the surrounding mountains. First, the mid-morning information session was well-organized with a senior associate director (who was a Williams alumna) and rising sophomore from Seattle. Second, we did the 45 minute walking campus tour with a junior from Philadelphia who was refreshingly honest about her experiences. In contrast to Amherst College (which we visited the day before), Williams had a more organized and polished information session. One could see personal and specific examples of various Williams alumni being proactive in helping current students. Finally, the campus did not impose a KN-95 mask requirement. Overall, it's a lovely campus that is worth a stop if you're in this neck of the woods in the northern Berkshires!

I attended their summer program in 1983 and enrolled in the following fall. It was an intense experience challenging me socially and academically. The administration, faculty, and support staff were accessible. Even the food service workers were there on difficult days to assist with a listening ear and some advice. The Chaplain's Center provided for transitional counseling and the Learning Center provided qualified peer tutors to assist students. It stressed independence but offered structure to mature safely. Troy, Albany, Saratoga, Lake George, and the ski spots were among some of my favorite distractions in the Capital District. Having a bowling alley in the Student Union provided a great stress relief nearby. Focused undergraduate research was highly valued, flexibility in fusing disciplines, and focused balancing long and short-term objectives prepared me for my unanticipated career and the lifelong pursuit of knowledge and thoroughness, responsibility toward facilitating for our community's interest, and reflecting the RPI initiative. We were really impressed by the students and staff. The students we met seemed happy to be there. The faculty seems to care about the students along with their success and well-being. That's the impression I got. The campus is small and walkable. Lots of kids walking around or hanging out together.

I'm a hair bit biased as I am a Union alumnus. A few things you have to look forward to at Union…read moreCollege: - Knowing 1/2 your graduating class by name and recognizing the other 1/2. - Several naked Nott runs. - Painting the "Idol." - Spending absurd numbers of hours in the library writing your thesis and studying for classes. - Making fun of the Minerva houses. - Imbibing in several beers at the fraternity houses. - Knowing your Professors on a personal level - Horrifying digestive issues from West dining. - Avoiding contact with Schenect-"doids." - Hibernating for the entire winter term to avoid the terribly cold weather. Most of the programs at Union are quite challenging from an academic standpoint. The Professors that teach at Union are all highly-qualified. I can think of only maybe one Professor that was not very good in my four years at Union. The students at Union know how to work hard and play hard. Now that SATs are optional, I'm not sure about the caliber of students that are applying to Union any longer, but the number of applicants has shot up. Union's campus is pristine. Quite picturesque during the summer, but brutally cold in the winter. There was a two week period while I was there my freshman year where the temperatures were sub -20 with the windchill. Because of it's small size, it's easy to get involved on clubs. Union always has campus activities going on. My biggest gripe is regarding the Greek system. Union is the "Mother" of fraternities. The first collegiate Fraternity ever- was founded at Union College back in the early 1800s. For over a hundred years, Union was close to 100% Greek. However, instead of embracing this unique bit of history, Union has begun a campaign against fraternities. Starting in the late 1950s, Union began forcing fraternities to live on campus. About 10 years ago, they started seizing the land that the fraternity houses lived on and forcing those fraternities to move into college owned housing (dorms). Unfortunately, these dorms are ill-equipped to handle a fraternity or sorority's needs and they have not been well-kept. Rather than despising the Greek system, Union should embrace it. A full-on overhaul of the Union Greek system is necessary and I'm not just talking about the housing. They need to hire someone who came from a school with a large Greek system, implement policy changes, and hold members of Greek organizations accountable.

It's very very small, the entire campus is centered around "the Nott" (attached photo) while a few buildings and several old beautiful houses circle it; the Admissions Center for example is a restored mansion, cool! Having gone to UT at Austin myself, the small size of the campus blew me away...and made me a bit jealous (I think the size of boyfriend's graduating class was the size of my Chemistry 101 class!) I'm wondering if the folks who attend here realize just how lucky they are. The few blocks surrounding the college are charming (Jay street for example), but Schenectady itself is pretty unsavory. Stick to campus.

As an undergraduate, I was an English major, concentrating in literature, The English program there is underrated, in my humble opinion. Marist is known as a communications/business/fashion school, and rightfully so as those programs are incredible. However, it should get more attention for its awesome little English department, staffed by some of the most amazing educators I've had in my 19 years of schooling. I was an avid reader before, but they completely changed my outlook on literature and ultimately inspired me to pursue becoming a professor myself. I returned later on to get my Masters in Education there. It's a young program (I think I may have been the second or third class?) so it's not perfect, but I also think that education is a hard subject to teach without hands-on experience, which they ultimately do require. Again, I was mentored by some awesome educators, so what more can you ask for from a college? Oh, and I did live on campus for three semesters. My first dorm, Champagnat, was renovated a year or two after I was there, so I don't have anything constructive to say about it since I haven't been in there since '01. My second dorm, a suite in Midrise, was nice. I know they were featured on a morning show about the luxury of their dorms, so there you go. The cafeteria is decent, the cafes around campus are good, they have a kickin' activities center and the library... oh, the library. I'll be here for another 8 paragraphs if I go into the awesomeness of the library, so I'll just say that I spent many a relaxing afternoon by a big window overlooking the Hudson reading the 47389423489 books assigned to me as an English major. Ah, Marist. Good times. I miss you.
