Another bummer for the college search. Great admissions presentation, very nice campus, admissions tour guide was great, but there was such an unfriendly vibe on campus it turned my son off. Twice we saw girls look at the tour group and roll their eyes in disgust and while on tour there wasn't a single friendly hello from students walking around the campus. It's a shame because Marist has some great programs and was close enough for my son to come home once in a while. They say you can't make a second first impression and vibe from the current students we saw walking around just didn't make the place seem like the right fit. Graduated in '73. Great education and campus activities. The school is for individuals that are looking to add value in whatever your interests. Looking back it was the most important decision I have ever made. Like anything in life you get what you put into it. The college has come a long way from an all male institution run by the Marist Brothers to a female population that exceeds 60%. What is most important is that although there is no religious affiliation the values of the Marist Brothers is still ingrained in your education and experience. read more

My daughter had a great time here. It's a high quality school with excellent standards and treats its students very well. My daughter rarely felt excluded due to her disability which says a lot about the character of this place, it's not as pretentious as it seems. A lot of wealthy students come here but there are plenty others like my daughter that get generous financial aid if you work hard enough. The campus is also amazing and so large, I could walk around all day and there are areas with ethereal views. read more

I spent 6 years of my life at Marist and I don't regret any single part of it... not even when those student loan bills come in every month. As an undergraduate, I was an English major, concentrating in literature, The English program there is underrated, in my humble opinion. Marist is known as a communications/business/fashion school, and rightfully so as those programs are incredible. However, it should get more attention for its awesome little English department, staffed by some of the most amazing educators I've had in my 19 years of schooling. I was an avid reader before, but they completely changed my outlook on literature and ultimately inspired me to pursue becoming a professor myself. I returned later on to get my Masters in Education there. It's a young program (I think I may have been the second or third class?) so it's not perfect, but I also think that education is a hard subject to teach without hands-on experience, which they ultimately do require. Again, I was mentored by some awesome educators, so what more can you ask for from a college? Oh, and I did live on campus for three semesters. My first dorm, Champagnat, was renovated a year or two after I was there, so I don't have anything constructive to say about it since I haven't been in there since '01. My second dorm, a suite in Midrise, was nice. I know they were featured on a morning show about the luxury of their dorms, so there you go. The cafeteria is decent, the cafes around campus are good, they have a kickin' activities center and the library... oh, the library. I'll be here for another 8 paragraphs if I go into the awesomeness of the library, so I'll just say that I spent many a relaxing afternoon by a big window overlooking the Hudson reading the 47389423489 books assigned to me as an English major. Ah, Marist. Good times. I miss you. read more

MAAAARRRIIIISSST!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I spent four years here. I have no idea how to write a paragraph review of it. Wooooooooooooooo! I've had a lot of good experiences here. Wooo! Some comfortable townhouses to live in, beautiful campus right on the Hudson, and a decent education. Woooohooooooooo! MAAARISST! But I guess the only advice I can give is try to check out the HuMarists skit shows at the end of each semester and get in line an hour early. Five stars! WWWWOOOOOOO! GO RED FOXES!!! read more

I actually didn't end up applying, but I did walk around the campus on my own (not on a tour) and stayed for a baseball game and loved the campus. Super home-feeling campus, and not far from NYC at all. Would have loved to attend if the majors were more appealing to what I want to do! read more

I was blown away by Marist's beautiful campus! Absolutely beautiful and a wonderful school to boot! They are so accommodating and wonderful!

This school as I knew it (Class of 2006) was well known for their fashion program, their computer development program and their school of business. If you're not going for these 3 things, I really suggest going elsewhere because the degree will not give you the notoriety and resources that you should get for the debt you'll go into by going to this school. Their science program is okay, but is so heavily focused on pre-med and pre-dental stuff that I didn't learn about public health (the current profession I'm getting my doctorate in) until after I left. I really resent the main guy (I won't mention his name here) because of that. I ended up getting my degree in political science and the program is too small and the concentrations were too limited to really branch out into anything useful. If you do major in poli sci, declare your concentration early as international because you can take advantage of a lot of cool programs they have. I was a commuter - didn't live on campus and am very glad for that because it is a 'wet' campus (no matter what they try to tell you) and girls there are known as the 'bed foxes', not red foxes. I think campus life is the type of thing where it's more focused on encouraging your social life and not your academic life - and you be the judge of what actually matters after you graduate :) read more

Beautiful campus....very competitive to get into, less than a 30% acceptance rate. Freshman dorms are fairly large. Great view of the Hudson. Plenty of activities to do during the day and Poughkeepsie has good nightlife. Nice sense of school spirit! I love it here!!!!!!! read more

If you're looking to get that "college experience" this is the place to go. Seems like they took the most attractive females from the tri-state area and put them all in this school. Lots of partying. Lots of activities. Make sure to live on campus to fully experience all of it. Academically this school is mediocre. Some of the professors have poor teaching methods, specifically the chemistry staff. If you're looking for an academically strong school then SUNY New Paltz or Vassar college are better choices in the area. If you're looking to have fun well....need I say more. read more

The college offers a plethora of study abroad programs which includes it's beautiful campus in Florence,Italy. Overall a beautiful school that offers the potential for a great education and for great social growth. read more

The new dorms listed as Building A, B, C and D are horrific. Less space, no oven only stove top, small refrigerator for 4 people to share, bathroom is separated (shower) and (toilet/sink) on opposite sides of the room. Smaller kitchen and lounge/living room. Reminds me of a hotel with long corridors to get to your room. Improved security as require both a Plastic Coded card to be scanned to enter your corridor and a Room Key but it is a pain when carrying many items. Also Marist increased the cost of housing by $300 to $500 per year. Currently $6,250 and higher per semester. The architecture design of these new building is less than desirable in appearance and structurally par. Parking is terrible near these new housing/ mini apartment dorms. Room lighting, mounted on wall like a night light, is very poor so bring your own lamp. Uncomfortable bed mattress. Room is narrow. Internet stability / staying online is still a problem after spending 3 years at Marist also speed is slow which contributes to poor internet connection. These new buildings was a waste of Marist College funds. Do you realize that Marist College makes a huge profit by housing students at a ridiculous price. Same applies to most other colleges in the U.S. Best to live off campus as 4 students x $6,000 each = $24,000 for 17 weeks can practically live in a Penthouse rather than being crammed into a rather small and inconvenient apartment life style. Not to forget that Marist is a Liberal Arts school and your future occupational outlook/ employment opportunity really not that great after obtaining your degree. Student Financial Aid staffers are worthless and your Academic Advisor can mess things up for you to graduate on time. Marist has some outstanding Professors who will assist you and clarify their assignments while other Professors won't stay an extra minute when you need to ask them a question. Honors program is tough as need to always maintain a GPA to make Deans List to stay in Honors Program. One bad grade can drop you out and prevent you from ever returning to the Honors program. Highly recommended to attend another college or seek your Masters degree elsewhere. Marist does well with its International/ Study Abroad programs but many other Universities offer just as good if not better Study Abroad programs. Marist College is primarily for students wanting a degree in Fashion Merchandising. The Marist campus landscaping is nice but the city of Poughkeepsie is not so pleasant. Over the last decade, Marist has increased their enrollment/ acceptance letters as once was about 33 percent and now 46 percent chance in being accepted. The cost of tuition has risen over the last 3 years from near $33,000 to $36,000 or $1,000 per year just as they increase housing cost every semester. Attending any college is not very affordable so why spend it at Marist just cause they have a nice landscaped campus along the Hudson River. I believe a large portion of College Graduates return home to live cause they are unable to find employment that will utilize their Liberal Arts degree in any major/ concentration from Marist. Decide on a realistic major that will get you a viable job. read more

I am a junior here at Marist College and I am finding that the longer I stay, the less I ever want to leave! My advice would be to take advantage of the short-term attachment programs that travel abroad at Marist because they range from 10-14 days and it is enough time to explore a different country without developing home sickness. I went to Iceland for my short-term program and I would not trade that experience for anything! The programs also change every semester. The professors are invested in my success and are always available to help. The Marist community is very friendly, so if you're not making friends right away, give it time! I'm a member of the class of 1999. I had a wonderful experience at Marist. I made lasting friendships and met my husband there. My history professors were great. Dr. Wermuth still remembers me whenever I run into him. The campus is absolutely breathtaking. I come back to visit twice a year. Nothing but good memories! read more
