When our house was inspected, the inspector told us nearly everything looked fine-- except when he looked into the bathrooms. He peered his head into the downstairs bathroom, turned to us with a distressing grin, and just asked, "You're gutting these, right? To the studs?" The bathrooms had been basically destroyed by water damage and general neglect, so we hired D.S. Brody to gut the bathrooms to the studs, and rebuilt from scratch. Long story short, they did a superb job, came in at just about the price we were quoted despite some "surprises," and were flexible and professional. A year in, I still couldn't be happier with how the work turned out. Specifics: on top of being entirely gutted, the downstairs bathroom needed the toilet and the vanity switched, the upstairs bathroom needed to be extended into a hall closet, and both bathrooms required somewhat finicky tile work to be completed. Furthermore, we discovered that the pipes going from the basement into both bathrooms and the kitchen were not up to date and needed to be replaced in their entirety. We also had Dominique and her crew replace our back door and put in some small shelves in the kitchen. The icing on the cake was that we were out of state for more than three weeks of the work; due to some poor scheduling, first we were in Japan during demolition and early rebuilding, and then we were in Florida during much of the tiling process. Dominique kept in touch regularly and dealt beautifully with our absence, including through the discovery of the bad pipes, a (briefly horrifying) realization that the upstairs of our house was not actually built on a perfect 90 degree angle, and a multi-week delay of our tile shipment. The finished work looks and functions wonderfully, and we've had no problems whatsoever during this past year. I want to commend not only Dominique but also her crew, particularly foreman Obel, who continuously went above and beyond to get things looking and working just right for us. We would absolutely hire D.S. Brody for any further construction we might need, and strongly recommend them to anyone else in the area.

Although the representative of the first roofing service company was very professional and his…read moreproposal very detailed, the estimate from D S Brody & Associate was a little more than half the other price. (Two other companies never responded to my e-mail with needs.) Despite language about my responsibility for additional charges to resolve potential discovery of wood rot, the manager of D S Brody did not charge extra for carpentry in three damaged areas. The team did a great job. Based on a recommendation from a heating service that recently cleaned our heating chimney, I was prepared to have Brody install a metal chimney cap until: that team re-assessed, informed me with a picture of the crumbling top, then the manager recommended two flue pipes embedded with cement as the optimal long term solution. In response to my request, Brody gave a reasonable fixed-price and completed that task within two weeks of the first.

I will never do business with him again I would never recommend him to anyone I am taking him to Court to try to get some compensation for what it cost me to repair his poor construction mistakes.

The…read morehome was left in pretty bad shape by the previous owners of 30 years, and the scope of work was extensive and daunting: gut and reno of a dated, compact bathroom; refinish of three wallpaper and horse hair plaster bedrooms; refinish worn hardwood floors; creation of custom laundry closet; new heating and hot water system; construction of new egresses; installation of new windows; etc. We loved his subcontractors. We purchased several natural stones for our bathroom renovation, and Carlos installed them with great care. He took the time to hand select individual pieces of stone from the 1' x 1' mesh to finish the edges of our walk-in shower. And Fred, Dave's plumber, is a gem. It's obvious he takes great pride in his work, and it really came through in the installation of the new heat and hot water systems in the basement. He even took the time to point out and explain some of the home's plumbing history (e.g. down spout for the old ice box!) We really enjoyed working with Dave. We gave him a high level vision of what we wanted, and he knew how to execute. This is our first home--first purchase and first renovation--and there were numerous times I thought to myself, "I'm not sure if we could've made it without Dave". He was timely, considerate, and always available. He gave us great recommendations for paints, fixtures, and accessories. The bottom line: We'll absolutely be doing more work on our home in the future, and we won't look to anyone but Dave.

The great variety of jobs they did for me were done quickly, thoughtfully and expertly. They were recommended to me by a friend to do a variety of time sensitive jobs at the end of a major renovation of our tenant unit in our two family in Watertown. Their jobs included tiling of a newly installed kitchen, installed and encasing a vent to the exterior for an in-unit washer drier, installed a built-in mirror cabinet in a bathroom, and installed a new, wider basement door. While they were there they ended up solving a variety of additional problems - temporarily removed some kitchen cabinetry and door trim to enable delivery of a new refrigerator, plastered and painted a removed cabinet area, strengthened the steps into my basement, etc. Throughout the process Michael and Tom communicated super well, pointing out options in how to proceed, made suggestions for sequencing of projects for better outcomes, kept us up to date regarding progress to completion dates, etc. They took meeting their commitments to completion dates super seriously, working extra hours and weekends when they ran into unexpected complications, and checking in with me to make sure I was happy with things along the way. I general contracted our renovations (what was I thinking...) over three months and observed and had personal experience with each of the contractors we used. Some looked great, and ended up being hard to work with, expensive and underdelivered. Michael and Tom were the opposite. While they may appear more low key and not as polished as some, they were probably the most effective, professional and responsible of all the people I hired. I had a flood in my 1-bedroom condo so I had a bunch of projects. There were sections of drywall…read moreand baseboards that needed to be replaced, I wanted the countertop replaced on the bathroom vanity and change the tile backsplash in the kitchen. They were very responsive to my messages on yelp. They also talked to my building manager to work out permits for plumbing. We had some miscommunication about the estimate but we ironed that out. They came to demo the old tile and then the problems started. First they were stuck at another job site, then they had another client with an emergency, so there several days when I waited all day for them to not show up. They did work late to finish the drywall and baseboards in time for the painters. The plumber who they contracted to do the vanity was great. I wish they had just told me from the start that this tile job was out of their league. Instead, Mike spent several days of hard work and long hours trying very hard but the result just wasn't great. He ripped out and re-tiled sections to try to fix it. , it just didn't work out with the tile, and I'm having to repay to have it redone.

He came over and told me that this was a different leak. After I saved up enough money, I was referred to an expert in basement leaks/foundations. He came over and completed the work. When he was doing the work, he proactively asked me who did the work previously. He said he was clearly not done by someone with knowledge of foundations. I have tried to resolve with Eric. Our project was not a major renovation, but we were never treated like the job was "too small." We had some flooring re-done in our basement, some custom shelving and a closet installed, and some minor touch up repairs done on the exterior of our house. From the day Eric was scheduled to come out for the estimate, we knew these guys were different. Not only did Eric show up on time for the estimate (when does THAT happen?), but he called about 5 minutes beforehand concerned that he might be late. We felt that after the meeting, the quote and pricing he offered were fair and put down a deposit. We never felt pressured to proceed, and we were provided all information we requested: evidence of proper licensing, insurance, a fully complete legal contract, etc. When the job began, the workers were as punctual as Eric was on day one, and were courteous. We also found the crew to be careful and detailed to do the job right. We never felt uncomfortable with them working in our home, and they were flexible on timing and agreed to some minor tweaks and changes to the project as the need arose. Thanks for doing a nice job!
